11 Paper Hearts Review:

I enjoyed “11 Paper Hearts” because it was a lovely, intriguing contemporary YA mystery.

Firstly, I must say that an amnesia story always catches my attention. It is the perfect setting for a thriller mystery. While this is not a thriller, I loved how the author blends the mystery with romance. The story is short but fast-paced. A lot happens in each chapter as Ella goes on her scavenger hunt for the paper hearts. The author writes the mystery element nicely, where I wasn’t sure until the end of who was sending the hearts.

Similarly, the author also describes the locations so beautifully. I want to visit Belvedere Castle to see the beautiful views. Again, I also loved how the author described “The Whispering Gallery” and would love to experience it the next time I’m in the city.

The characters are dynamic as well. I liked Ella in the lead. While she is a popular girl, she is down to earth. The author wrote her nicely as she goes through different emotions due to her amnesia. I loved her friendship and chemistry with Andy. Honestly, Ella shares good chemistry with Andy and Pete. However, I loved the scenes with Andy and Ella. Some memorable moments are when they play the “Hot Chocolate Game” or see the stars. I also enjoyed the moments between Ella and Ashley. The author portrayed their bond realistically.

However, the only minor criticism I have of the story is how the author did not focus on Sarah and Carmen’s characters. I would have loved more background on Ella’s confrontation with Sarah and Carmen towards the climax.

Apart from that, overall, I thought “11 Paper Heart” was fun, exciting, romantic with a good mystery alongside.
