About the Author:

Robert V. S. Redick is the author of the Chathrand Voyage Quartet ( The Red Wolf Conspiracy and sequels), among the most beloved and critically acclaimed epic fantasy series of recent years.

Redick is a former faculty member in the Stonecoast MFA program and an environmental justice consultant. He has lived and worked in Indonesia, Argentina, Colombia, and many other countries. Master Assassins (Talos Press, 2018), the first book in The Fire Sacraments trilogy, was a finalist for the European Booknest Award for Best Novel, and was featured on numerous Best of the Year lists.

Redick is currently a Visiting Professor with the University of Nevada, Reno’s MFA Program. He lives with his partner in Western Massachusetts..

Master Assassins Review:

“Master Assassins” is a delightful epic fantasy saga that captures you from the first page and holds on to you till the very end.

The world-building is also intricate and impressive. We meet various religions, desert and forest clans, languages like Kasraji, to name just a few. I could go on, but suffice to say, the author built a dynamic world that is so vast with endless possibilities.

The story starts in a simple manner where two brothers need to escape the clutches of the Prophet when Kandri accidentally does something to one of her sons. Once they are on the run, the author introduces us to other memorable characters like Ariqina, Talupéké, Chindilan, and Eshett. On a side note, I loved Ariqina’s storyline and what happens to her, along with the storyline involving the six Rasanga tribes.

The author adds moments of action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of everything. Moreover, we get flashbacks between the past and the present where we learn more about Kandri and Mektu’s history. What I admire about the author is how he managed to focus on character development as well. We get a background of each of the characters, which is fascinating. I enjoyed all the characters and found them unique in their way. However, I loved the bond between Kandri and Mektu. They are contrastingly different from one another but share an unbreakable bond. Mektu was my favorite character! I loved his personality and thought he gave the story an added edge.

Overall, “Master Assassins” is a fantastic start to the “The Fire Sacraments” series, and I cannot wait to see how it continues.
