The Wilderness Spa brings people from three quite different sources together to survive catastrophe in the Alaskan wilderness. They amaze themselves in their ability to coalesce and work cohesively in the face of hunger, injury, insecurity, and possible death. With that on their minds, they explore statistics, logic, social justice, and challenges to philosophies and social norms.

After rocky starts when new members enter the group, they learn to find the best in their fellow travelers, how to help, follow, and lead when necessary. Nothing is ever easy. Without attacking each other, they dig deep to reconcile their differences.

Join the group as they make the best of what they have. Struggle along with them and reconcile your own philosophical belief systems with logic and science.

Wilderness Spa Review:

“Wilderness Spa” is a beautiful tale about survival and human connections, and I was invested in the story throughout.

Firstly, I commend the author for writing such a beautiful story about human nature. I enjoyed reading this book for the variety of topics he covered as the story progresses. Even though the plot has exciting moments where the group tests their survival skills, their conversations were the story’s highlight as I read it. The characters talk about social norms, white privileges, and religious beliefs (to name a few), and it was interesting to see how various characters responded to the situation.

Tom is outstanding in the lead and was my favorite character. Even though he is unsure which is the best approach to managing the group, he shows a brave front and handles them well. He contemplates whether he needs to use anarchy or proper leadership to manage the team, and I liked how the author emphasized this point. I liked how Tom concentrated on their individual needs and saw specific strengths in the individuals. He also takes into consideration their physical problems and fears and handles them accordingly. Other than him, while I like the rest of the case, Ben and Ashley were my favorites too.

Apart from that, the author also adds some exciting moments to the story. He describes the scenes vividly with beautiful details that show how breathtaking and dangerous nature can become. Some parts that stood out for me were when Johnson’s airplane crashes or when they encounter a bear.

Overall, “Wilderness Spa” is a beautiful book to read if you are in the mood for a story of nature, survival, and an eclectic cast of characters.
