“The Lost Girl in Paris” turned out to be a gripping historical fiction novel that’s heart-breaking, heart-warming, raw, and intense. You would not put this down once you start reading.
The main highlight of the story is the lead character, Tiena. I loved how the author portrayed her bravery. Moreover, I loved the camaraderie that Angéline and Emma shared during the interview. Even though Angéline is reluctant to do interviews, it was lovely to see how Angéline opened up and started talking about her experiences. The author does a brilliant job of jumping to the past as Angéline describes Tiena’s story. I was at the edge of my seat in the flashback scenes and got goosebumps in many moments. Some moments that stood out for me were she overhears Jarnak saying they have to shoot her, when Tiena encounters the Gestapo Man, or when she witnesses the horrific incident of the Nazi major.
The author also has a beautiful style of writing, where some moments also feel poetic. Specific phrases are etched in my mind, like when the author says a Damask Rose never forgets anguish when it pulled from its roots. The author also adds thrills to the present moment, like Emma gets chills when she reads the note or notices Mr. Gray Suit. I also liked the supporting characters like Yvette and Brooke Hansen. On a side note, I also adored how the author explains the perfume business and how the character got involved. I enjoyed even the little moments, like how Emma prepares for an interview felt beautiful from the author’s writing style.
Overall, “The Lost Girl in Paris” is a powerful historical fiction novel with solid characters. Anyone who loves the genre will surely enjoy reading this book!
