The most uplifting book you’ll read this year!

It has been a long and lonely year for neighbours Vivienne, Mary and Gwen. All ladies of a ‘certain age’, their lockdown experience has left them feeling isolated and alone. They are in desperate need of a change.

Things start to look up however, when Gwen comes up with a plan to get them out of London by borrowing a motor home. In no time at all the ladies are on the road . They are away from the city, away from their own four walls, and away from their worries.

The British countryside has never looked more beautiful. As they travel from Stonehenge to Dartmoor, from the Devon and Cornish coasts to the Yorkshire moors, gradually the years fall back, and the three friends start to imagine new futures with no limitations.

And as their journey continues and their friendships deepen, and while the seaside views turn into glorious mountains and moors, Mary, Vivienne and Gwen learn to smile again, to laugh again, and maybe even to love again. Now they can believe that the best is still to come…

Funny, joyful and with a spring in its step that reminds you to live every day like it’s your last. Judy Leigh has once again written the perfect feel-good novel for all fans of Dawn French and Cathy Hopkins.

About the Author:

I write uplifting novels about living life and loving it, with many of my characters being in their golden years. My stand-alone stories take place in a variety of inspirational and colourful settings, from a typical Somerset village to lively Paris, to a beautiful Mexican coastal resort.

The central characters are older people who are full of fun and mischief, who have adventures, find love, lose love, make wonderful friends and discover the true meaning of happiness. There is much laughter, sometimes a few tears along the way, but always there will be the joy of celebrating each moment in life and living it to the full.

My novels offer readers many smiles and the chance to make new friends between the pages. I hope you enjoy sifting through the titles and synopses.

The Golden Girls’ Getaway Review:

“The Golden Girls’ Getaway” is one of those stories that touches your heart and makes you wish that you had a close-knit of friends, like the three charming ladies.

Firstly, I loved the theme of the story. Do you ever wish you could go on a trip with your close friends when you are old and live life without any stress or responsibilities? The author also wrote the story so humorous that I found myself chucking at a few scenes, especially between Gwen and Vicente de Lorenzo. The scene where he makes a fool of himself and shocks Gwen, or when she tries to drive the motorhome, had me rolling. Similarly, Mary faces health challenges, and Vivienne doesn’t like how people perceive her as old since she is an actress. Each of them goes through their struggles but beautifully fits together and supports each other. Even though the book leaned more towards Gwen, I loved Vivienne.

Another beautiful aspect of the tale is how the three always support each other and boost their spirits. Each character realizes that they still have the spark in them, as Gwen plays darts with Marc, or Vivienne feels young again. One of my favorite moments revolved around the singing competition with Elinor, and I thought the author made the story so heartwarming. On a side note, I also liked Berry and Orlando in the side roles.

Moreover, I loved how the author indirectly gave us a tour of Stonehenge and Exmoor. Frankly, after reading about the beauty of Exmoor, I want to visit it someday. Similarly, the author also makes the story relevant to the current pandemic, where our main characters wear masks. Overall, “The Golden Girls’ Getaway” will make you smile all over.
