Two strangers on the same path.
Survivors. Companions.
They will be each other’s salvation.

On a rainy, winter night, a mysterious woman in a red dress seeking shelter comes inside the restaurant Kabir was busy working in —primarily the bar— and night after night, drink after drink, she comes back to the same spot. That is where he sees her for the first time.

Hundreds of patrons around her try to speak with her daily, but she dismisses them. It appears she wants to remain in a blissful peace alone with her booze and books. After seeing the mysterious woman reading a book, and because of his shy nature, Kabir gains entrance into her life by anonymously leaving books with notes for her.

The Name of Red is the story of two strangers, two different personalities who meet on a winter, rainy night who challenge each other. They have a connection which blossoms into a friendship due to their fondness of books. But they both have secrets that can bind them together or threaten their newfound relationship forever.

The Name of Red Review:

This book is tragic yet so beautiful. I really loved reading this beautiful romantic story.

The characters are the highlight of the tale! Red is a mysterious character who you slowly get to know through Kabir, and her story is fascinating. Even though Red is the main character, I loved Kabir more. He is written as the perfect gentleman and you just want to root for him. Red and Kabir together are pure chemistry! There are so many wonderful moments in the story! I loved the dialogues that Kabir and Red share with each other. Some that come into mind are when:

Red tells Kabir not to compete over who needs to grief in what manner, because both of them have lived through their own tortures.
They go to the Sky Lanterns Festival in Pennsylvania. Such a heart-warming scene.
The way Kabir surprises Red on her birthday. Another beautiful moment.
Red talks in Farsi which add a unique touch.

Also, I LOVED the numerous book references and recommendations by the author beautifully incorporated in the dialogues.

Beena Khan has really done an amazing job in her debut novel! She has a wonderful knack for writing romance, and I would put her in the same league as Nicholas Sparks and Danielle Steel. In fact, I was shocked when she mentions the similarities in her stories were inspired by true events that happened to her.

Cons:

I would have loved to give his book a full 5 star rating. However, there were some minor inconsistencies which I felt could have been avoided. For instance, ICE coming after Aryan because his work permit expired. I felt this was unnecessary and deviated from the plot. Also, we don’t get to know much about Wafa (but I guess this might be explained in the sequel?). Even Saagh and Red’s history felt blurry and not clearly explained.  Moreover, even though my heart went to Red in the second half, I thought was a bit immature and too bold in the first half. I realized it is who she is, but when she asks about bondage etc. it made me cringe, as felt it took away the beauty of the story.

Apart from that, I loved this story so much! “The Name of Red” surpassed my expectations because I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much! I truly loved reading the story and recommend it to anyone who wants to read a good contemporary romance.
