Leopold Borstinski is an independent author whose past careers have included financial journalism, business management of financial software companies, consulting and product sales and marketing, as well as teaching.

There is nothing he likes better so he does as much nothing as he possibly can. He has travelled extensively in Europe and the US and has visited Asia on several occasions. Leopold holds a Philosophy degree and tries not to drop it too often.

He lives near London and is married with one wife, one child and no pets.

I Confess Review:

I found the concept of the story in “I Confess” quite enjoyable. The story revolves around a woman who seeks the help of a private eye to prove her guilt in her husband’s murder. This plot immediately caught my attention, as I was curious to learn more about the protagonist, Jake. The book is fast-paced and relatively short, making it an entertaining read that reminded me of classic black-and-white noir movies. The presence of multiple suspects like Elmo, Franny, and others kept me engaged and questioning what was genuinely happening. Moreover, the unexpected twists, shocking deaths, and suspenseful chase scenes, such as the sedan attack on Jake, held my interest throughout.

Also, I appreciated Jake as the lead character. This book is the first one I am reading from the series, but his background was easy to understand. He possesses a rough exterior but makes for a compelling private eye. The author effectively explores his feelings of guilt surrounding the events involving Ed. However, I must admit that I was not fond of Jake pursuing romantic relationships with several women in the story, such as Sylvia and Gladys, to name a few. I would have preferred if the author focused more on Jake and Sylvia, as their dynamic intrigued me.

Some of the supporting characters, like Joss and Ursula, were also memorable additions to the narrative. The author skillfully maintains a well-paced story, leading to an engaging climax. The author also keeps a few subplots open-ended that make you want to pick up the other books to get closure.

All in all, “I Confess” is a fun and captivating read that left me curious to explore more books in the series.
