Paris, 1940: Two sisters separated by the Nazis… After a devastating attack, Justine and Eve Beaufort find themselves on opposite sides of the war, both in their beloved Paris. But can they ever find their way back to each other?

It was the day that changed everything. When the Nazis came and broke into our home. Destroyed everything that was safe for us. They took our home and our security. I thought it couldn’t get worse. But then they also took my sister.

After that day nothing was the same again. I thought I’d never see her again. I thought she was lost to me forever. I joined the Resistance, vowing to fight against the evil German army with every last spark of fire in my body.

I know what I have to do. And nothing can stop me.

Until I catch a glimpse of a woman who looks just like my sister. Alive. But this is not the sweet darling girl I once knew. This is a platinum blonde happily conversing with a terrifying Gestapo officer. No longer my sister. But a traitor.

And I know what I must do…

Could you choose your country – and what is right – over the person you once loved more than anyone in the world?

Sisters at War Review:

The author paints a realistic and haunting picture of living in Nazi-occupied Paris during World War II, highlighting everyday people’s struggles and ethical dilemmas. It explores themes of trauma, coercion, and the difficult decisions people make in extreme situations.

Moreover, I liked both Eve and Justine as the main characters. Eve’s determination to resist and protect her loved ones shows us the bravery of regular folks during a dark time in history. Similarly, we see Justine torn between survival and fighting back, haunted by her past and the sacrifices she must make for her family. Both of them discover a newfound strength and determination as they navigate the dangerous world of wartime Paris.

Similarly, I also enjoyed the side characters who cross paths with our heroines. Arsène, in particular, is intriguing with his air of mystery, and his growing concern for Justine adds depth to the story. The author fills the book with tension and uncertainty, and Justine’s complex relationship with the major and her mysterious link to Arsène add intrigue to this wartime tale. Similarly, Ève and Michael share a strong bond.

Some standout scenes include Eve waiting by a locomotive in a railroad yard, shrouded in darkness as she prepares for her mission, or the tense moment when Arsène tries to help Justine escape, leading to a confrontation. The author skillfully blends emotional drama with action and adventure, creating a gripping wartime story.

The story’s pacing keeps you engaged, building up to an exciting climax. It wraps up with a cliffhanger, leaving me eager to pick up the next book in the series.

Overall, I enjoyed reading “Sisters at War” and found it a great start to the series.

  1. Thank you for your lovely and thoughtful review of SISTERS AT WAR.

You highlighted my favorite things, too: Eve at the railroad station — I studied old films about sabotage at railyards to make it realtistic.

And scenes with Justine and Arsene! It was a challenge to make him ‘romantic’ with all his crazy disguises.

The sequel SISTERS OF THE RESISTANCE is in the works…. and the gang is all back!

    Thank you again.
    Jina
