When Izzy O’Brien flees the city centre apartment she shared with her controlling partner, she relocates to the seaside town of Dun Laoghaire, and the house she inherited from her aunt.
Isolated and insecure, Izzy is relieved to be embraced by a tightknit group of female neighbours, who invite her to join their book club.
However, the town is not as sleepy as she thinks.
And her ex-boyfriend is not ready to let her go.
A gripping mystery thriller set in Ireland, The Book Club Murders is perfect for fans of Shari Lapena, Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay.

The Book Club Murders Review:
First, I admire this book’s extensive ensemble of characters. The multitude of intertwined storylines ensures that there is never a dull moment. Some of these include Izzy’s escape from Adam, Gareth’s trials, Stephanie’s pursuit of a new life, and the cunning schemes of Tess and Kate, among others. While these characters are initially presented in seemingly disconnected storylines, the author skillfully weaves them together through a Book Club where some members harbor hidden agendas.
Moreover, I found Izzy’s journey, grappling with Elaine’s demise and her flight from Adam, particularly compelling. Conversely, Adam’s instability left me on edge, unsure of his next move. The author excels in crafting distinct and memorable characters, each contributing their unique flavor to the narrative. I was genuinely taken aback by some of the unexpected twists and murders in the story, which caught me off guard. Notable moments include an attack on Gareth while driving and the tense scene featuring Adam and a knife.
On a related note, I appreciated the chemistry between Izzy and Dylan. Furthermore, the author adeptly incorporates LGBTQ themes, including transgender identity, and enriches the narrative with diversity.
The final revelation was a complete surprise, expertly executed by the author. It enhanced my overall enjoyment of the storyline, making it truly unforgettable.
Nevertheless, it takes quite some time for the central murder plot to unfold, nearly halfway into the book. The author spent excessive time in development, which could have been streamlined. In hindsight, certain storylines, such as those involving Melanie and Gareth, possess untapped potential, leaving me with missed opportunities.
Despite these minor qualms, I relished my experience reading “The Book Club Murders,” finding it an engaging and enjoyable whodunit mystery.
