Folly at the Fair Review:

Annie Oakley used to be one of my favorite retro westerns when I was growing up. I loved the adventures of the brave heroine who stood on her horse and had the perfect shot at a deck of cards. This book made me nostalgic of the old show, and I just loved every minute of it.

The author writes the story in such a beautiful manner that takes you back to the late 1800s. Annie Oakley is a fascinating character and I had researched her history long ago. I loved how the author stays true to the characters and makes them come alive. In fact, the main highlight of the story is Annie. She brings the plot to life with her good nature and willingness to help everyone.

Moreover, the story is not boring, even for a minute. The author introduces multiple plots, like a child disposed with Annie to take care of, a serial killer on the loose, a new woman that has her eyes on Frank, and a crazy fanatic who wants to get close to Annie. I was completely engaged to the story and finished it in one sitting! Another thing which I admired was how the author gave importance to the supporting characters. The story does not focus only on Annie, but spends time with Emma and her relationship with Mitchell, and Frank’s interactions with Frida.

The mystery of the serial killer is a tad predictable, but nevertheless very entertaining. Although I have not read the previous books in the series, I had no troubling getting “Folly at the Fair”. However, after reading the story, I would love to read all the previous books to follow Annie’s adventures. Overall, I LOVED reading this book!
