In The Nick of Time is a story that is beautiful with full of messages that all children need to hear about poverty, gratitude, and service to others. We believe Santa would be so proud.
About the Author:
As a therapist, attorney, CEO of Make A Way Media, and award-winning author of eleven diverse picture books, Deedee Cummings has a passion for making the world a better place. Her children’s books are not only fun for kids and adults to read, but they also work to teach coping skills, reinforce the universal message of love, encourage mindfulness, and facilitate inclusion for all. In the Nick of Time Review:
In the Nick of Time was a heartwarming children’s story that drew me in from the first page.
The author very nicely shows the true meaning of Christmas and how we have to think about others and be grateful for what we have. It’s very accurate what the author mentioned that they do not teach or talk about these topics in school. Moreover, it’s vital to be thankful for what you have from a young age because that impacts the kind of person you grow up to be. Hence, I admire the author for taking the initiative to write a children’s book on this topic.
Similarly, the author describes the characters nicely, and I liked the mother’s personality. Nick is a fun character and realizes what it means to help others. The illustrations by Charlene Mosley are charming and adorable. They have somewhat of a rustic touch but are colorful and vibrant. On a side note, I also loved the small touches the author adds by Nick giving hot cocoa to the mail carrier.
However, I wish the story had been just a tad bit longer. I would have loved to see more interactions with Nick and Cooper, spending time together. We do not get to see Cooper’s reaction after what happens to them in the end.
Apart from that, I enjoyed this tale and thought the author nicely wrote it. Overall, I believe this is a beautiful Christmas book to gift a young one and know the entire family can enjoy it.
