An iconic rock star with everything to prove. A teen runaway with nothing left to lose. Are you ready for the most unexpected journey?
Adrian ‘Jazzer’ Johnson’s gilded rock and roll career is the stuff of legend. From out of the dive bars of Long Beach, this high school dropout rocketed his band to the pinnacle of success. But after a whirlwind decade ended with him broken and questioning, Adrian disappeared.
Now back on tour after a year in exile, Adrian’s still struggling and under pressure to deliver his next hit. The last thing he needs is to find a teen runaway hiding on his tour bus. As it turns out, Hastings Sinclair is a synesthete who can see music in color. But her offer to help color-blind Adrian unpack his creative block upends their lives in ways they never imagined.
Because Adrian’s troubles run deep—beyond what any song can fix—and Hastings hasn’t been upfront about hers. When calamity strikes, a perfect storm of fates unleashes, and caught in the crossfire are Adrian’s bandmates, a fame-shy beauty he falls hard for, and a scheming journalist with a vendetta. With everything he values suddenly on the line, can Adrian reconcile his own brash history? Or will he be forced to face the music in a way he never has before?

A Rainbow Like You Review:
“A Rainbow Like You” is one of my favorite ‘feel-good’ books this year!
Hastings and Johnson are the highlights of the story, and I loved their bond. My heart went out to them as society misconstrues their relationship, and the media takes the opportunity to ruin Johnson’s career. Hastings is a fantastic character, and I loved how she is not afraid to point out Johnson’s problems. She is strong, fierce, and wants to live her life to the fullest. Similarly, Johnson is flawed and imperfect, but he tries his best.
But it’s not just the characters who captured my heart. The author paces the story in a competent manner where the story only gets better as it progresses. As the story builds up, you see Johnson getting into deep trouble, and you don’t know how he will get out of it. The climax where Jillian conducts the interview is one scene that will stick in my mind for a long time because it gave me goosebumps.
Moreover, the author also talks about important topics like Sickle Cell Disease and Synesthesia. While I have read other stories about both these topics, I thought the author implemented Synesthesia very creatively in the musical environment.
Furthermore, I loved the theme of the music band in the story. The way the author describes the tours and the last minute fiascos sounds realistic. Moreover, Johnson has a fluid relationship and conversations with Diego, Norman, and Exile. I could picture people like these characters behaving the same way in reality.
Overall, “A Rainbow Like You” is a beautiful story that will make you laugh, cry, and keep you entertained. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
