About the Author:

After spending  more than twenty years of busy teaching job, and then a brush with cancer Jo Bartlett  finally sat down and wrote her first novel. After a few near misses, she was lucky enough to land a publishing deal and the rest, as they say, is history.

She is currently working on her seventeenth book and have had contracts with a number of publishing houses including Accent Press, part of the Headline group, Ulverscroft large print, etc .  However, Fabrian Books. is the publisher of the majority of her novels .

Jo set a lot of her stories on the coast, particularly in Kent and Cornwall. But she has also novels set in London, the Scottish Highlands and New York city. She lives in the furthest south east corner of the UK, so close to the sea that she is  almost French, with her husband, two children and two dogs.  In the last year she has been lucky enough to get to the stage where she can drink tea and make stuff up on a full time basis, although she is  still doing a bit of teaching just in case!

A Winter’s Wish For The Cornish Midwife Review:

“A Winter’s Wish For The Cornish Midwife” is the first book I am reading from the series, and it was heart-warming.

I have not read any of the author’s works, but she has an impeccable style for writing angst, drama, and romance. The author introduces us to quite a few characters, and I loved how the parallel storylines toggled between them. On the one hand, I enjoyed Jess’s storyline with Dexter and the foster care. On the other hand, we see Anna and Brae dealing with the new baby. Finally, our main character Toni goes through many emotions as she wonders if she should be with Bobby or not.

The author adds some entertaining dramatic moments, like when Toni sees Bobby talking to Emily at the Halloween party or finding out her news. I also enjoyed the concept of a male midwife, and it was interesting to see how people reacted to Bobby being a midwife. All in all, this was a charming contemporary romance for the most part.

However, while I loved the chemistry between all the characters, I felt the story’s premise was a tad weak. While we know Toni’s reasons for keeping Bobby a secret, I am surprised she went along with it for so long. There were so many instances where I felt she could have resolved the situation quickly. But then we wouldn’t have the entertaining tale, I guess. I found Toni sometimes infuriating for the way she always made Bobby second priority.

Overall, I did enjoy “A Winter’s Wish For The Cornish Midwife” but felt it could have been a bit better. Nevertheless, it was a lovely book to read, and I am curious about how it started.
