After the death of his grandfather, Noah’s life is full of chaos. He faces a repressed past which threatens everything, he believes to be true. In the course of trying to come to terms with his loss, Noah must also navigate a difficult relationship with his sister, Kelly. Especially, when both reflect on their turbulent childhood. They had to move from London to live in the Kent countryside following the breakdown of their parents’ marriage.
Set between the 1970s and the more recent past, Adventures About To Begin chronicles a collapsing marriage as experienced by its children and reflects on how memory shapes our decisions at crucial junctures during our lives.
It is both funny and touching, as well as a sensitive insight into British family life during a period of great social and cultural change.

Adventures About To Begin Review:
Initially, I found the author’s writing style to be quite appealing. The author adeptly navigates between past and present timelines, providing an introduction to various family members who have played a role in Noah’s life. The manner in which the author dedicates attention to each family member, whether it is Kelly, Noah’s parents—who exhibit distinct self-centered tendencies—offers a compelling insight into Noah’s character development.
I enjoyed Noah in the lead. Noah’s persona resonated with me, particularly how certain pivotal events guide him along an emotional trajectory. I identified with Noah on multiple levels, and I believe the author adeptly captured the intricacies of these relationships. The story has a nice balance of humorous and emotional moments, like you would read the arguments of family members from one end, and an emotional connect on the following chapter.
Furthermore, I was captivated by the depiction of Noah’s rapport with Kelly, which is portrayed with authenticity, showcasing both the highs and lows they experience. The author skillfully illustrates how decisions made during their formative years reverberate through their personalities in later life. On a side note, I also loved the book cover.
Overall, “Adventures About to Begin” is a lovely contemporary story to read if you love family dramas.
