Awesome Dog 5000 Review:

What a fun story this book of “Awesome Dog 5000” was. Although I have not read the previous books in the series, I enjoyed reading this one. Although I wish I had read the first two beforehand to learn of Awesome Dog’s origins.

Firstly, kudos to the author for writing the book so creatively. I loved the instruction manual he sets up for new readers vs. returning readers on which page to start reading. He also warns younger readers when the plot might become too scary towards the climax, with a cute photo of a cat. Moreover, he narrates the story in an adorable way that makes you want to fight with the characters.

Speaking of characters, I enjoyed all of them. But, as the book focuses primarily on Ralph, I enjoyed his storyline more than others. It was interesting to see how Marty and Skylar boost his spirits when he feels inferior to them in certain areas. I also loved Tina as the villain. She is crazy, unpredictable, but very entertaining. It was interesting to see what she does as a supervillain, just because she is a fan of superheroes. I thought she was one of the most creative villains I have read in the genre recently.

Similarly, the illustrations are quirky and charming that complements the plot very nicely. I also liked how the author set up clues for the next book and includes fun trivia along the way. The book is very entertaining and would be a hit amongst younger readers. However, I would recommend reading the series from the first book before picking up this one.

Overall, “Awesome Dog 5000 vs. the Kitty-Cat Cyber Squad” is a great adventure tale that will entertain middle graders.
