The bad guys want her dead. But first they have to get past Breed.
Breed is on vacation in Arles, France when he sees a group of men open fire on a car. In the gun battle that ensues, a young girl escapes from the vehicle and runs for her life.
Breed pulls her to safety. Her name is Julia and she was abducted by the gang in the car. They forced her to take heroin, and when she was addicted, used her as a sex slave.
The slavers want to recapture Julia, and it soon becomes clear that the anonymous men who fired on the car want her dead. Breed is resolute to keep Julia alive, but to do that, he’ll need to figure out who is after her and why.
On the run, outnumbered and outgunned, he calls for help from his friends: CIA Deputy Director Anya Stein, Delta Force veteran Ken Takigawa, and cowgirl sharpshooter Heth Crockett.
From Arles to Seville in Spain, Breed fights to keep Julia alive. The chase leads to a deadly showdown on the blood-soaked sand of La Maestranza, Seville’s great bullring.
Black Sun—Book Seven in the stunning Breed action thriller series. Perfect for fans of Jason Kasper, Jack Carr, and Lee Child
About the Author:
Cameron Curtis has spent thirty years on trade floors as a trader and risk manager. He was on the trade floor when Saddam’s tanks rolled into Kuwait, when the air wars opened over Baghdad and Belgrade, and when the financial crisis swallowed the world. Having written fiction as a child, he is the author of the Breed action thriller series.
This is his seventh action of Breed thriller with Inkubator Books.
Black Sun Review:
I have not read any previous books in the series, but that did not stop me from enjoying this action thriller! This author really knows how to crank up the tension, sprinkling cryptic conversations and an ever-present sense of danger as Breed and his comrades wade through the enigmatic circumstances surrounding Julia and the various groups chasing after her. As the story unfolds, the suspense builds, and Breed’s worry for Julia’s safety intensifies. Characters like “The Basque” provide a foreboding backdrop to the unfolding events, casting a shadow of impending danger on their journey.
I have to say, Breed makes for a compelling lead. This author skillfully highlights Breed’s resourcefulness and his knack for handling difficult situations, setting the stage for potential action and conflicts in the plot. Amidst all the uncertainty, the camaraderie and shared experiences among the group bring much-needed levity. They candidly discuss the potential risks they face as they uncover more about Julia.
Even the supporting characters like Heth, Takigawa, and Ballard contribute significantly to the story. I found Julia’s backstory quite engaging. The involvement of the enigmatic Gypsy King adds an extra layer of intrigue to the narrative. The author maintains a well-balanced pace, mixing action and adventure, which leads to a thrilling climax.
But here’s the kicker: the very end of the book caught me off guard. It was unexpected, and the story wrapped up bittersweetly, leaving me with mixed emotions.
Putting that aside, I had a good time reading this book, and I’m eager to revisit these characters again.
