A team of adventurers enters an epic trial of wits, magic, and monsters in this thrilling new fantasy series set within the Arcane Ascension universe.

Parties attempting to claim the treasures of the Tortoise Spire of Dalenos are usually composed of six professional climbers. But following a near-disastrous climb, Team Guiding Star Legacy finds itself two challengers short. With Nieve as the frontline fighter, Sage as the strategist, Lani as the healer, and Emiko as the spellcaster, they need a couple powerful allies to round out the squad.

The first new recruit, Hane, is a fighting and stealth specialist, while the second, Aldis, has quite the talent for teleportation magic. Though their individual reasons for scaling the spire vary—wealth, fame, favor—the team’s shared goal is thus: fight, win, ascend, and repeat. All in the hopes of one day making it to the top, where the goddess awaits to grant them the objects of their deepest desires.

To achieve this goal, they must master escalating levels of fire and ice, dangerous creatures, and confounding illusions. Whether facing a threat to their bodies, their magic, or their minds, each of the climbers accepts the risks. And bending the rules is part of the challenge. Some call this cheating; others call it winning.

But no test is ever straightforward. Because Guiding Star Legacy is being judged, and their next contest is one they aren’t meant to survive. Ascend or fall, the quest is only just beginning.

    Crystal Awakening Review:

I have yet to read The Arcane Ascension series, so I was skeptical if I would enjoy this book. While the beginning was a bit bumpy, I enjoyed it and thought the authors executed it creatively.

Let’s begin with how larger-than-life this book feels. The authors add so many details in the worldbuilding and the characters that you get immersed in another world. The concept of attunement levels, spires, and marks made the story enjoyable as our climbers went on their mission.

Moreover, I enjoyed how the authors toggle the storyline between multiple points of view. All the characters, whether Safe, Aldis, Hane, Lani, Emiko, or Nieve, spark the story with their unique traits. Hane was my favorite because he is the newly joined recruit, and it was interesting to see how he adjusted to the team and the situations. The story also progresses well, where the team faces various challenges and has to review how to achieve their quest.

Perhaps the only downside to the tale is how overwhelming worldbuilding sometimes gets. As soon as you start reading, the story immediately immerses you into the Arcane Ascension universe, and you need more time to adjust to understand how it works slowly. I found myself going back and forth initially to get the hang of what was happening. However, once I got the gist of the tale, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

Overall, “Crystal Awakening” is an exciting start to the Shattered Legacy series, and I cannot wait to see how it continues!

    Night of Mysterious Blessings Review:

What I liked about this book is how anyone, whether young or old, can relate to it. We all have sleepless nights worrying about what the next day will bring. There would be situations we would worry about facing, and our mind conjures all the “what-if” scenarios. The author beautifully conveys that as long as you believe in God and trust, He will be by your side, and your mind will find peace.

I enjoyed how the author narrated the story in a rhyme that would capture the young reader’s attention. The illustrations by Courtney Smith also brighten the picture book. Considering the tale takes place at night, I enjoyed how colorful the illustrator made it. My favorite ones were when the boy meets the Sandman or plays with Old Paws. The Sandman looks adorable and would put a smile on the reader’s face.

Moreover, even though this book targets Christian families, anyone from any background would appreciate its value if they believed in a higher power. Overall, “Night of Mysterious Blessings” is a beautiful children’s fiction novel that you can read multiple times whenever you feel anxious and cannot sleep, and the story will give you peace of mind.

In 1844 Enoch Price was born into poverty. An ambitious youth, he becomes a bare-knuckle fighter amongst London’s underworld. In debt to a violent and unscrupulous moneylender and facing ruin and imprisonment, he escapes to Jacksonville, Florida. He abandons his wife and three young daughters, a decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life. By the time he arrives in Florida, Enoch Price has become Harry Mason.

Through a series of thrilling and risky escapades, he plays an important role in the development and history of Jacksonville. He builds an extraordinary new life of political and financial notoriety, the shooting of a rival, and the concealment of a murder. Despite imploring his wife to join him, she declines, exhausted by his lies. Tormented by loneliness and guilt, Harry seeks solace through a bigamous marriage . This leads him into a web of deceit as he tries to conceal his true identity and past.

Meanwhile, lauded and enjoying popular success, Harry is elected in 1903 to the Florida State House of Representatives with the prospect of becoming State Governor. He advances his business interests through a series of corrupt practices. He becomes a wealthy and successful politician. However, success brings neither happiness nor contentment, and, seeking redemption, Harry plans to return home. But life is rarely that simple as the First World War breaks out, the Spanish flu pandemic takes its toll, and the American government introduces prohibition. Will there be a good end for Harry, or will his secrets prove to be the death of him?

    Author Bio:

After retiring as a senior police officer, I turned my detective skills to genealogy, tracing my family history to the 16th century. However, after 15 years of extensive research, I couldn’t track down my great-great-grandfather, Enoch Price, whose wife, Eliza, had helped raise my mother. It was my cousin Gillian who called one day to say that she had found him through a fluke encounter. Susan Sperry from California, who had recently retired, decided to explore the box of documents given to her thirty years before by her mother, which she had never opened. In the box, she found some references to her great grandfather, Harry Mason, a wealthy hotel owner from Florida who had died in 1919.

It soon transpired that Susan’s great grandfather, Harry Mason, was, in fact, Enoch Price. From this single thread, the extraordinary story of Harry Mason began to unravel, leading me to visit the States to meet my American cousins, and it was Susan Sperry and Kimberly Mason, direct descendants, who persuaded me to write the book.

I graduated from Warwick with a joint in Philosophy and Psychology and a Masters in Marketing from UWE. Since leaving a thirty-year career in policing, I’ve been a non executive director with the NHS, social housing, and other charities.

I live with my wife in Bristol, spending my time travelling, writing and producing delicious plum jam from the trees on my award-winning allotment

    Burning Secret Review:

“Burning Secret” is a compelling historical fiction novel about a man who starts a new life whose past comes to haunt him, and I found the story entertaining.

Firstly, I enjoyed the author’s writing style. He writes the scenes so articulately and detailed that I was reading a true classic from that time. The way he progresses with Harry’s life and struggles while adding key historical elements like the World War and the Spanish Flu makes the story complex.

Moreover, I liked Harry in the lead. He is not someone you will immediately like, but you feel a bit bad for him as the story progresses. I enjoyed reading his storyline with Bessie and Eliza, and even though I anticipated it would not end well, it was entertaining to see how the author wrote it. I liked the supporting cast too! Nicky was also one of my favorites, and I liked how the author gave him importance. As the story progresses, you see new people enter Harry’s life and how he also grows up professionally. The author nicely balances the dynamics of Harry’s personal and professional career, and in the end, you feel like you have read the biography of someone prominent.

Perhaps the only downside to the tale is how it took me time to get into the novel. I didn’t find Enoch’s life interesting initially, and the story took off for me only once “Harry” came into the picture.

Overall, “Burning Secret” slowly draws you into the tale but grabs your attention as you read it.

Under the rule of a tyrant,  there was a division of Americans  by race and class. Hate and inequality reigned. Hispanics and Blacks had no choice but to overthrow the government and exterminate the Caucasian “Europe” race. The few Europes who managed to survive are now classified as Lower Residents and treated as slaves to rebuild the New America—The Southern Region.

Sixteen-year-old Saige, whose parents broke the “purity clause”, pays for their mistake far after their publicized executions. As an Impure, she now must escape the tyranny and sneak over the Border to freedom. Avi’s chance to succeed her father as General, is conflicted by her loyalty to her authoritarian Elite family and her love for a Europe rebel. Leo, a Lower Resident worker who rebels believe God has sent, will lead them to salvation against the Union. These three teenage adversaries from different castes forcefully rely on one another to thwart a dictator’s plans for mass genocide.

And they’re about to start a revolution.

    About the Author:

Leah Vernon is an international bombshell with a double masters in business and creative writing. Her name has been in high-profile campaigns such as Ugg “Feel You” and Fitbit’s “Feel Your Power”.

She’s the first visibly plus-size Hijabi influencer to hit the mainstream with over four million views combined. She’s also an author of The Union and Unashamed: Musings of a Fat, Black Muslim.

Leah V isn’t your regular influencer; She’s a disruptor, a trendsetter, and a changemaker in her perspective fields. She began her blogging journey back in 2013, when she fell deep into disordered eating and noticed that there was no one that looked like her that was considered “worthy” or “beautiful”. And, frankly, she was tired of sucking her stomach in around her skinny friends.

With a grainy android phone and clothes from the clearance racks, she began paving her own way through the fashion industry. She used her fat, Black, and unapologetic Muslim body as a rebellion. Beauty is NOT one size fits all. She moved to New York and began smashing glass ceilings. To date, she has worked with renowned brands like Target, Dove, and Amazon just to name a few.

After years of brands telling her she had no place in the fashion world, that she was not “marketable” enough, Leah V carved her own beauty standards.

    The Union Review:

“The Union” is a wonderful young adult, science fiction, dystopian about the cruel world between the Impure and the Elites, and I could not put it down.

The first aspect I liked about the tale is how the author included all the elements of the regular dystopian novel but also made the characters so enigmatic that they made it feel special. I loved Saige and Avi’s storylines and how the author toggled between the two. Both are strong, show immense bravery when faced with challenges, and are the tale’s highlight.

What also surprised me was how raw the author wrote some of the scenes. I got goosebumps seeing how cruel punishments Saige has to face while people like Avi and Jade lead privileged life because they are the elite. My heart went to Saige, and I was at the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen to her. Similarly, Avi’s storylines also intrigued me because of how different she is from the others, and she is not afraid to stand up and do what she feels is right.

The supporting cast also added nicely, and some of them were memorable. For instance, characters like Lox and Mama Seeya made the story stand out. Similarly, Head Gardner also gave me the chills, and I wondered how crueler the Union would get on Saige.

Moreover, the author immediately sets up the adrenaline. The few chapters dive into action and adventure as Saige gets arrested under pretenses. The author has a dynamic way of engaging you in the storyline and is now one of my favorite authors after this book.

Overall, “The Union ” is a great Young Adult Dystopian novel, and I highly recommend it!

A quiet coastal village in post–World War II America is shaken when the secrets of the past and present collide in a riveting novel by the bestselling author of Under a Gilded Moon.

Five years after the war, Amie Stilwell, a photo interpreter for an Allied unit in England, returns to her hometown in Maine. Jobless and discouraged but stubbornly resourceful, she’s starting over in the same coastal village where her life once went so wrong. Waiting for her is Shibby Travis, the surrogate mother with whom Amie never lost touch. But the unexpected also awaits…

A silent, abandoned boy is found with a note from a stranger pleading that he be watched over. Amie and Shibby take him in, but the mysteries multiply when a Boston socialite is found dead in Amie’s barn and an old friend, believed to be a casualty of war, suddenly reappears.

Trained to see what others cannot, to scan for clues, and to expose enemies, Amie uses her skills to protect a child, solve a crime, and find the motive behind a veteran’s masquerade. But through the hazy filter of a town’s secrets, Amie must also confront her own painful past.

    A Bend Of Light Review:

“A Bend Of Light” is a delightfully fun mystery thriller with a touch of historical fiction, drama, mystery, and past secrets that stands out in the genre.

Firstly, I loved how the author set up the plot with multiple storylines. On the one hand, you have Amie returning to town to locate her friend Jake and landing herself in a mystery involving a Bentley. On the other hand, you have a mysterious boy, Chester, show up, who Shibby takes in and tries to find out his background. Then, you have Tom in Boston, who doesn’t want his picture to show up in the papers for some reason. All these stories seamlessly merge as we see the characters intermingle. Amie, Shibby, and Tom were the highlights, and I enjoyed how the author progressed the mystery. Even Stella, Ian, and Desmond were mysterious, and I wondered about their true intentions. Stella and Tess, in particular, had a strong aura and made the story exciting. The story has a large cast of characters, and each of them brings something new.

Secondly, I loved how the story takes us back to the 1950s to the quaint setting of Maine. The author adds quite a few twists and turns that surprised me, and I enjoyed how charming yet exciting it was for the genre. Some of my favorite moments were when Amie meets Tess for the first time to show the sails and how the plot progresses toward the climax.

Overall, I enjoyed “A Bend Of Light” and didn’t notice the time fly. It is one of my favorites by the author, in addition to “Under a Gilded Moon.”

Nell Cosgrove is the new wife who got it all. She married her handsome, wealthy boss within six months of meeting him. They live in a beautiful riverside home. She has a flourishing career. The only problem is her two stepdaughters, Ruby and Poppy, who are fiercely loyal to their mother, and reject all her overtures. But now everything is falling apart. Nell’s marriage is starting to crack. Her husband spends more and more time away on business.
She gets creepy text messages from an unknown admirer. He sends mysterious bouquets of flowers to her office. She starts making mistakes at work. Everything Nell thought she knew about her marriage and her new life is about to be
    turned upside down.

    About the Authors:

When she’s not writing, she loves spending time with her family and friends, walking her dog, reading (her go-to is fictional crime and psychological thrillers) and she is far too keen on red velvet cake. She loves sunny days by the sea, and snowy days through the window of a cosy room. Amanda has raised over £8700 in ebook royalties for Cancer Research UK in memory of her sister. She is the author of six psychological crime thrillers, and co-writer of psychological suspense novels with author Karen Clarke.

    The New Wife Review:

“The New Wife” is an intriguing psychological thriller about Nell and how her marriage to Oliver puts her life in danger as someone targets her.

Firstly, I enjoyed how the authors set up the plot. They don’t waste time initially with how Oliver meets Nell and how it impacts his marriage. The book begins with Nell already married Oliver for a while, and how his daughters, Ruby and Poppy, and ex-wife Fiona don’t like Nell in the picture. Throw in some other shady characters like Sean, who is obsessed with Ruby, and creepy moments like Nell noticing items shifting in her house and finding shredded dresses, and this book was quite entertaining. Initially, the story felt slightly over the place, but I adapted and enjoyed the pacing.

Moreover, I liked how the authors wrote the dynamic between Nell and Ruby. Both of them have their storylines and initially don’t get along with each other at all. But, unlike Poppy, Ruby has various layers, and you see her looking at the bigger picture and trying to bond with Nell. I also liked Poppy’s unpredictability and the storyline where she goes missing. Carla was another interesting character who unexpectedly added a nice mix when initially I thought she would be a backdrop.

Perhaps the only downside to the tale is how I could easily predict the culprit, as there are only a few suspects. However, the authors throw in red herrings even in the end, where you wonder if there are multiple suspects. The last few chapters are thoroughly gripping as a LOT happens.

Apart from that, I enjoyed reading “The New Wife,” which was a fun suspense thriller.

    The Night Nurse Review:

I recently read “I Won’t Let Go” by the author and loved that book. It was one of the few stories that gave me nightmares! Hence, I had high expectations for “The Night Nurse” as the premise sounded like something I would enjoy. While I liked “The Night Nurse,” it didn’t shock me as some of the author’s previous works did.

There are some lovely elements to the story. For one, Laura and Sam’s friendship was one of the highlights, and I liked how they bonded. Moreover, Bella and Andrei were creepy, and I didn’t particularly appreciate it when they started showing their true colors.

Laura is fun in the lead and has her moments, primarily when interacting with Bella and Andrei. I also enjoyed the strained relationship between Billy and Laura. The author also adds some exciting moments when Angela comes into the picture and shows us flashbacks of how abusive Laura’s mother was with them. The author details the character relationship nicely, giving them depth and making me like Laura.

However, while I enjoyed the character moments, the author could have added more thrills and suspense. I wish that there were more twists and turns in the tale. The story takes time to get going, as the author adds quite a few details that I found unnecessary. The thriller elements come into place around 50% of the book, and it would have been nice to see more shocks. Moreover, in such books, I expected a shocking twist in the end, and the book didn’t end the way I had expected.

Nevertheless, “The Night Nurse” is a decent thriller, but not the best of the author.

    Behind Closed Doors Review:

I have read quite a few suspense crime thrillers and found “Behind Closed Doors” to be a unique premise. It was interesting to see how our main lead, Stacey, investigates the kidnapping of her stepdaughter when she was a victim of a similar incident many years back. Moreover, the kidnapper is a copycat in many ways, where they follow the same methods of revealing clues as Stacey’s, and you wonder why they would target her family after so many years.

I liked Stacey in the lead and thought the author wrote her perfectly with flaws. Some of my favorite moments in the books are when she remembers the past with Doctor Erin, which reveals a part of her trauma that had locked up long back. The author also paces the story nicely, where you meet various people who could have the motive for kidnapping Lyra. When you figure out who it could be, the author throws you off and brings another character from Stacey’s past into the picture. The twist in the end also threw me off and was one I did not see coming, which made the story enjoyable.

Moreover, I liked the cast of characters too. Ashraf and Erin were my favorites, and I loved the dynamic they brought in. Jack also had his moments and spiced up the tale with his emotions. However, the most exciting person was Bella. She was unpredictable and fierce, and I enjoyed her flashback scenes with Stacey. Even Ox was fun with the way he found out information. I hope the author writes more books with Stacey and these characters, and I would love to revisit them.

Overall, I enjoyed “Behind Closed Doors” and thought the author executed it well!

Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex Review:

Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex is a fun, exciting middle-grade novel that made me fall in love with a genre I haven’t read lately.

This book was a lot of fun to read! The author immediately drew me because of the excellent set of characters. I loved Grady in the lead. Grady lives with his Uncle Leo and feels inferior to others, like his brainy friend Aarush and even his bully Elwood. My heart went out to him as soon as the story started, where you wonder how things would get better. The author added all the correct elements perfect for this middle-grade fantasy adventure, with colorful characters and an exciting plot that fits well yet stands apart.

Moreover, the author does a great job in character development. You see Grady grow in the tale as he joins the Academy and experiences exciting adventures that also puts his life in danger. I loved Grady, Aarush, and Pari as the trio as they discovered the secrets of Templeton Academy. Even supporting characters like Valencia, Lucas, Lydia and Forrest made the story stand apart because of their uniqueness, making it so exciting! Some of my favorite moments were when they first reached the Academy and learned about subconscious studies or the thrilling climax.

The only downside to the story is how it took time for the storyline to commence at the Academy. The book’s first half is purely the buildup and setting up of the characters, which was a tad lengthier than I had hoped.

Apart from that, I loved reading this tale and cannot wait to read the continuation. Overall, “Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex” is a beautiful middle-grade adventure, and I hope to revisit the characters in the continuation.

    Behind You Review:

“Behind You” is a lovely slow-burning crime fiction mystery set in the backdrop of a pantomime show, and I enjoyed reading it.

Firstly, I enjoyed the setting and the character. Shona shines as the nurse, taking a break from her volatile relationships and coming to Malaga. As soon as she comes to town, she stumbles on a mystery as she sees a victim in the theater. I liked how the author paced the mystery element, and I admit I did not figure out the suspect until the end. Moreover, I enjoyed how she sparked a conversation with Ron to see how it would go. Ron was pleasant but gave me mixed vibes because he acted impulsively and sometimes hurt Shona.

Even the supporting characters were lovely. I particularly enjoyed Zara and how he spices up Allison and Jeff’s relationship. The author also gives depth to the supporting cast, so you feel like you know them in person and can understand what they go through. Some of my favorites were Joe, Allison, and even Alan. I also liked the quaint backstop of Los Perdidos and how the author described it.

The author also adds humor to some scenes, like how Ron introduces Jack and Jill to Shona. We also get some interesting spooky moments, like when Shona meets Vixen, who predicts her future. The book also ends well and sets the pace for the continuation. Some moments were left open-ended, particularly relating to Paul, but we will find out in the continuation.

Overall, “Behind You” is a fun start to the Shona Jones Mystery series, and I look forward to reading the next installment.
