In this riveting novel, Danielle Steel explores a high-profile affair that reverberates throughout an entire family. From the wounded wife to her husband—torn between two women—to the wife’s close-knit sisters and their mother.

Rose McCarthy’s staff at Mode magazine pitches a cover shoot with Hollywood’s hottest young actress. It exposes the actress’s sizzling affair with a bestselling French author. The author happens to be Rose’s son-in-law, which creates a painful dilemma. Her daughter Nadia, a talented interior designer, has been struggling to hold her marriage together. She wants to conceal the truth from their young daughters, her family, and the world. But Nicolas, her straying husband, has a blinded passion for a younger woman. Not only that, she is pregnant with his child.

Nadia’s three sisters close ranks around her, flying to Paris from Los Angeles and New York to lend support and offer their widely divergent advice. Athena, a jovial celebrity chef with her own TV show in Los Angeles, is leery of marriage. Olivia, a stern conservative New York superior court judge, is haunted by a shocking secret of her own. Venetia, a zany fashion designer, happily married with three kids, has the gentlest, most realistic perspective. Despite their well-meaning advice, Nadia needs to figure out what she herself thinks and what to do next.

    The Affair: A Novel Review:

The Affair” is the new emotional drama from Danielle Steel and was pleasant for the most part.

When I was growing up, Danielle Steel was my author for romance novels. Her novels mainly focus on the dramatic lives of family members and how they deal with various situations. In “The Affair,” she sets the landscape and characters wonderfully, true to her style. There were some similarities to her earlier works like “Kaleidoscope,” “Sisters,” and “The Numbers Game.”

Firstly, I loved the family bonding. The author wrote the love between the sisters wonderfully. No matter what the situation is, Venetia, Nadia, Olivia, and Athena are there for each other. Rose also shares a beautiful relationship with her daughters, and I loved the scenes where they all get together to help Nadia.

Secondly, I enjoyed the storyline revolving around Harley and Olivia. I liked how the author resolved their storyline, as it made sense under the circumstances. There are some negative characters like Pascale, who you love to hate. The main storyline surrounding Nicholas and Nadia also had me glued to the pages for the most past.

However, the ending spoiled the story for me concerning Nadia’s storyline. It was not a conclusion that I had hoped, as it felt that the author was encouraging extramarital affairs because of the outcome in the story. Moreover, there were characters like Greg Holland, who was dynamic and charming but was not prominent. Even Rose started the story with a bang, but we hardly saw her as the story progressed.

Overall, I would have enjoyed this story if some of the elements were different. Nevertheless, “The Affair” is a lovely story that is still enjoyable if you are in the mood for a classic Danielle Steel emotional drama.

    “Mine” Review:

Reading “Mine” was like watching a ripple effect. What starts as a simple story soon turns into a compelling drama.

Mine” is one of those books that just grabbed my attention from the first page. I could not put it down. The story is a simple one, but the author portrays the characters and the dialogues in a gripping yet straightforward manner.

The author wrote all the characters in a dynamic, complex manner, making the story so special. Lily and Leonard are mesmerizing together. At times I hated them for what they were doing to their family. Yet, a part of me wished for them to get away with their affair. You feel a variety of emotions for the characters. Similarly, Jack and Beverley are winning in their roles. While I initially despised them, they grew on me, and I started to root for them.

Moreover, I also liked the dynamic between Beverly and Lily. You can see what a hypocrite Lily is for judging Beverley when Lily herself is being sinful. Furthermore, the ending is just shocking, and one that I did not expect at all. The end truly shocked me, and I still have goosebumps thinking about it.

However, While I loved the story, I thought the book was a bit too lengthy. There were a few instances where the story felt repetitive. Apart from that, I enjoyed this story a lot. Overall, “Mine” is a gripping drama that will make you emotional with its dramatic tale. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

    Alice’s Secret Review:

A big thank you to NetGalley for giving me a copy of “Alice’s Review” for my opinion. This is the second book in the Mill Valley Girls series; however we can read it as a standalone book.

Let me start off by what I liked in the story. Firstly, I liked the shift in story-lines between the past and the present and how they are all connected to each other. It was interesting to see how Alys tries to discover what happened to Alice many years ago, given her limited resources. Also, the author does a really nice job in setting the landscape and beauty of Yorkshire and the cafes, and made me want to visit such an idyllic place.

Having said that, this book was average and not memorable. My main issue with the story is in its pacing. I found the story to be way too lengthy with a lot of unnecessary details. For instance, I did not need a constant reminder of how Alys loves fancy china cups. Nor on how she goes around town repeatedly looking for antiques.

In fact, other than the scenes where Alys tries to find out what happened to Alice, I felt Alys story very boring. Moreover, even the supporting characters like Rob, Aunt Moira and Tim etc. feel very generic and there is nothing that makes them stand out. I liked Alice’s story-line in itself and thought the booked could have focused only on her. Some of the scenes are pretty dramatic and you wonder if Alys will get together with Richard or not. Williams felt like a potential villain but we do not see much of him.

Overall “Alice’s Secret” is a somewhat charming tale, but again, I felt like the author could have easily shortened it. Like I said, my main issue with the story was in the lengthy way in which it was written, and due to this, I feel uncertain about picking up the other books in the series.

    [embedyt] https://youtu.be/wOK3Su0boGE[/embedyt]

I love reading soap-opera styled family sagas and it is one of my guilty pleasures. VC Andrews writes pretty trashy, but very gripping novels which I enjoy. “Heaven” was a fun read as it has some very scandalous events that even readers of today would find shocking. There are some shocking moments like when Sarah gives birth to the baby and when Kitty abuses Heaven in the bathtub. Moreover, I loved Heaven as a protagonist. Even though she comes from a poor family, she is ambitious and level headed and still supports her family. The author has also written the characters very well, as I really didn’t how Kitty would react since she is so unstable.

However, the only thing which I thought could have been better was the pacing. This book is so slow at times where you feel like nothing happens. Overall, Heaven is a nice book to read, if you enjoy the classic VC Andrews style of writing of a family saga with incestuous relationships and shocking scandals.
