    The Silent Friend Review:

Firstly, I was captivated by the author’s skill in portraying the intricate dynamics between Louise, Isabelle, and their respective family members. Louise’s recollections of her challenging childhood and deep affection for her grandfather resonated with me. At the same time, Isabelle’s tense encounters with her mother, Sandra, regarding Lottie added a layer of intrigue to the story. Moreover, the gradual development of Louise and Isabelle’s strong friendship was one of the story’s strengths.

Secondly, I admired how the author captured Louise’s conflicting emotions toward Isabelle and Carl. The constant awareness of the potential consequences she could face if her past were exposed created a real dilemma that genuinely stood out in the story. Louise’s character is intriguing, and as the narrative unfolds, you can’t help but develop a fondness for her. Personally, some of the memorable moments were when Louise visited Carl in prison and when she started receiving threatening letters.

However, there are some unresolved plot threads in the story. Certain mystery elements are left to speculation without clear confirmation, and I would have appreciated a sense of closure. It’s possible that the author intends to leave room for a potential sequel due to the open-ended nature of the main plot. However, in this case, the climax felt incomplete. Furthermore, the story shifts from being a thrilling suspense tale to resembling more of a profound “Thelma and Louise”-esque exploration of friendship.

Nevertheless, I still find “The Silent Friend” compelling with its unique and non-conventional plot, setting it apart from typical thrillers. The main character, Louise, carries the narrative with her effective presence, making the book well worth experiencing at least once.

In this heartwarming and poignant tale, we follow the journey of Michael, a 65-year-old man, and Ron, a young man who meets by chance on a ferry. As their unexpected bond deepens, they embark on a transformative road trip filled with friendship, healing, and self-discovery. The story is a very simple one, with hardly any.

I adored Michael in the tale, and my heart went out to him. From reading Michael’s story, I had a profound reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. The chapters evoke emotions, from joy and laughter to sorrow and reflection, drawing me into the characters’ world and shared experiences. I admit Ron sometimes got on my nerves, especially when he learned about Michael, but I grew to love him in the second half.

Moreover, I loved the travel log the two follow throughout the tale. The story takes us through various cities and landmarks, like Paris, Dublin, London, and even multiple parts of the US, as Michael and Ron explore the beauty of nature and share meaningful conversations about life, love, and mortality. Throughout their journey, they face challenges that test their friendship, but their connection grows stronger with each experience.

The author artfully weaves themes of compassion, human connection, and the significance of life’s fleeting moments. It beautifully captures genuine relationships’ profound impact on our lives, allowing us to find solace and meaning amidst the complexities of existence. Even the supporting characters, like Carol, were memorable, and I adored Rhonda. You will get teary-eyed when you finish reading this book.

Overall, “Reflections On The Boulevard” is a touching and soul-stirring narrative that reminds us of the inherent value of shared experiences and our impact on each other’s lives.

My Year with the Italian Girl Review:

This book was unique and heartwarming to read, and I enjoyed how the author portrayed it uniquely from Francesca, Vivian, and Keisha’s perspectives. The author describes Francesca’s coming-of-age journey in Bellport well, exploring themes of identity, cultural exchange, and adapting to a new environment. As Francesca and Vivian embark on their exchange program, the author fills the story with the hope that this experience will positively change their lives.

Similarly, I loved Keisha’s uplifting attitude! The story shines a positive light on Keisha’s strong moral compass and determination to succeed in various aspects of her life, such as academics and step dancing.

And finally, I loved how Vivian’s role as a journalist in the vibrant community of Bellport is showcased, with her dedication to writing compelling stories and he spiritual connection with nature. I was drawn into her journey of self-discovery as she navigates new relationships and unexpected feelings for her neighbor, Ian.

Also, the author adds a supporting cast like Garret and Aunt Lea, who make the story shine. I also enjoyed Peter and Rowland as they spiced up the pages with some drama. Some of my favorite moments were when they celebrate Christmas together or the shocking incidents Vivian faces.

I adored how the story explored the powerful bond between Francesca, Keisha, and Vivian as they navigate life’s challenges and celebrate their achievements together. In particular, Keisha and Francesca’s friendship was one of the highlights, like how they spent time during the Homecoming Parade and later in the competition. The chapters that focus on the Step Squad’s journey and Keisha’s passion for dance and social justice showcase the strength of their friendship and determination to succeed.

Overall, “My Year With the Italian Girl” is a heartwarming and insightful tale of growth, friendship, and embracing new experiences.

The five partners who own the small town book store The Paper Pirate have two issues to worry.. There is the looming deadline to pay off a balloon mortgage . In addition  a menacing stealthy crook who systematically searches first the shop, then each of their homes. He takes nothing and barely leaves traces of his presence As such, the police can’t be of much help, and simply promise to keep an eye on Charlie Santorelli, Lavinia “Vinnie” Holcomb, Al Rockleigh, Felicia Cocolo and Lenora Stern. It’s a mystery to them but the reader knows that Rick Foster, a shady rare-books dealer and his sidekick Nina Bartov are on the hunt for a particular old volume that sits unnoticed on a shelf in

The Paper Pirate’s used book section. It’s an obscure early work of the not-so successful author Benjamin Conway, and it’s badly defaced. But a very wealthy man is willing to pay Rick a half a million dollars for it. Seems an ancestor of his eluded the henchmen of a nineteenth-century dictator by escaping to New York. And  he eventually took refuge in the northeastern Pennsylvania countryside. Before he was captured and killed, he’d scribbled as much evidence of the tyrant’s sins . And he could fit into the blank spaces of a copy of The Stargazer at Dawn . He then hid it where he hoped his comrades would find it. They never did.

The five friends also are members of a writers’ group, and each of them has a secret. One is penning an erotic novel on the sly, another hides a painful estrangement with an only child. And a deadly teenaged mistake causes a third to sabotage her every chance at happiness in the present. A partner who claims to be unpublished actually is a one-hit-wonder with a thirty-year-old best-selling novel followed by a crippling literary failure. The last has a family with criminal connections—he’s spent half a lifetime avoiding them.

    About the Author:

Dawn McIntyre is a New Jersey native and long-time resident of rural Pennsylvania. After years of remodeling houses and working in corporate America, she began devoting more time to her true passion–building with words. The result, so far, has been a portfolio of short stories and novels.

Among them are stories about a young girl struggling to emerging from the shadow of an abusive mother to discover the rest of the world and her place in it, a teen who escapes her stifling extended family to start fresh in the home of her estranged father–a man who realizes too late how much he wants the daughter he left behind, and a thirty-something journalist who discovers the illicit secrets of a historic figure he’s researching and must face a decision to reveal and profit from them, or to conceal and protect the reputations of long-dead people he’s come to admire and respect.

The story of a middle-aged woman who impulsively reaches out to offer comfort to a guilt-ridden stranger and finds that her good deed has only dredged up misery from her own past followed a quirky tale of a young couple threatened by a hex visited upon them by a jealous ex-lover. The twice-told yarn about a literary grave robber planning to plagiarize a story entrusted to her by an adoring fan was written in response to a prompt suggested by a friend, as was the all-dialogue historical heart-to-heart between a young gay man and his mischievous aunt.

Her first book brought to life an ornery, twentysomething woman, viewed during the summer that changed her life, and her second, self-published novel addressed the prevalence, stupidity and tenacity of prejudice. The cozy mystery, The Paper Pirate, published by Running Wild Press, will make its debut on November 8, 2022.

McIntyre founded, along with two fellow authors, a writers’ workshop in 2013 that met at the Hawley Library until the Covid pandemic necessitated a switch to virtual gatherings. She continues to write fiction populated by richly nuanced characters in deceptively simple, familiar settings.

    The Paper Pirate Review:

“The Paper Pirate” is a fun, cozy-mystery themed story with charming characters that will make it enjoyable! The plot is short and simple, and initially, I was skeptical about whether I would get bored. A bookstore is in trouble. The owners, a group of friends, must find ways to save it. But, we have two villains who realize there is a valuable book in the store that they need to get their hands on. Sounds simple, right? Yet, the author writes the bond between the characters so beautifully that you don’t want to stop reading about them.I loved Felicia, Al, Vinnie, Charlie, and Lenora. Choosing one over the other is tough as they all bring something new. The author writes each of them distinctly, highlighting their desires, frustrations, and uncertainties. The tale has exciting, dramatic moments, like tensions between Al and Vinnie or Lenora and Jason. I found Vinnie and Charlie to be the most complex. Some moments shocked me, like when Lenora talked about Eric. The characters face personal struggles while coping with relationships and solving problematic situations, like their determination to protect the bookstore. My heart went out to all of them! Moreover, I loved how the author showcased the love for books with the theme, where we see how our characters try to pull money to save the store—reading this tale in an age where bookstores and libraries close in real life was heartwarming. Each character finds solace in books, and some scenes are endearing, like when they call other book enthusiasts to share their love for books. The plot, in itself, was fun, yet it could have been better. However, the end surprised me, as I did not expect it. Overall, “The Paper Pirate” is a fun, cozy mystery.

In the fragile balance of life, there is one birth, one death, one time to tell those you love a final farewell…

Victor Gant’s life is abundant with blessings.  Although his mother was an Osage Indian slave, he is a valuable member of the French and German community of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.  As the town blacksmith he makes a proper living for himself and beloved sister.  All Victor’s dreams come true when he marries the only woman that had ever caught his eye.

But blessings can be fleeting.  When the Civil War erupts in 1861, Victor will have to make choices.  Torn between doing what’s best for his family or following his conscience, between keeping promises or following his heart…to finally bestowing an agonizing blessing of his own.

Victor’s Blessing is a journey from the patent offices of Washington, D.C. to the battle of Wilderness to the infamous Andersonville prison, where in order for Victor to keep one promise, another must be broken.

    About the Author:

Barbara Sontheimer has a B.A. from a little college in the bootheel of Missouri and spent 15 years researching and writing Victor’s Blessing while raising 3 children.  A fascination with the everyday life of the people not battles was the driving force. Victor’s Blessing Review:

“Victor’s Blessing” is a beautiful historical romance drama that will touch your heart.

I was skeptical about picking up this book because of its sheer size. The length is twice the average book, and I hoped the story would retain my interest. The story immediately drew me in with its drama between the three main characters, Ethan, Celena, and Victor. There is so much between these three, and I could not put it down! I was curious to see how their relationships transpired over the events they encountered, whether in business or War.

While the book title says Victor, Ethan was the person who connected to me. Ethan is, in some ways, the most complex character I have read as of late because my feelings for him fluctuated so much. Sometimes, I despised him for his relationship with Penelope, but at other times, my heart went out to him for not having the one person he desired. While I read the tale, I wondered if his friendship with Victor would stay strong. However, my favorite character in the story was Penelope. I adored all her hardships, particularly with Abigail and Ethan, and was rooting for her throughout. Even though she appears only for a portion of the story, she significantly impacted me. The author also addressed her mental health issues realistically, and some scenes shocked me, like the burning of her clothes.

The author also touches on key moments of history, like the Camp Jackson affair and the incidents of the Civil War, and blends them into the plot. Even the supporting cast, like Laurence, Yvonne, and Carlene, was memorable (I thought Carlene’s complaints about Mason were hilarious).

Overall, “Victor’s Blessing” is a touching historical drama that will make you fall in love with its characters.

Amber McCarthy is a young woman with a high IQ and a well-paid job, but it is never enough for her and she seeks the thrill of planning and executing the perfect burglary.

On meeting wealthy businessman, Kane, her life changes and she relishes the challenge to win his love.

A new enemy at the door plays havoc with her plans and Kane moves to Andalusia.

With just one last chance of rebuilding their relationship, Amber believes she has the answer.

A thousand miles away in Spain, Kane has a shock in store for Amber that changes everything.

    Author Bio:

My passion has always been writing and I am unable to imagine a day without putting the laptop through its paces. As a young boy I remember hiding in the wings of my father’s theatre in Harrogate, staring in awe at the actors rehearsing for a show that he had written. Irrefutably, a tiny slice of his magic, thankfully, rubbed off on me and became the catalyst for my storytelling.

To date, four of my novels have seen the publishing and I am in the process of writing another one. I have written over two hundred short stories of which and BBC has broadcasted four of them. More recently I have become a regular contributor to a Dorset magazine group. My interests include horology and being grandfather to four colourful characters who continually test my mind and bank account!

I got nomination for The People’s Book Prize 2019 for my novel ‘Shadow with Nowhere to Fall’. The patrons are Frederick Forsyth CBE and Founding Patron: Dame Beryl Bainbridge. The last couple of years have been a busy time for me with local BBC radio interviews. I have also been featured as a guest on the American Author’s Show.

Finally, as many authors will confirm, it is a long and bumpy path getting published. If I had my time again, would I choose writing as my first love? You bet I would!

The Ugliest Man on the Mountain Review:

There are many aspects that I enjoyed about the story. Firstly, I adored Amber and thought the author wrote her strengths nicely. Initially, she comes off as somewhat of a kleptomaniac. However, as the story progresses, you see her facing challenges and changing her life for the better. Some of my favorite moments were when she interacted with Liz or when she first met Toni.

Similarly, I appreciated the focus on charity and how the author emphasizes it in the plot to help homeless people. Amber comes up with pretty innovative solutions to help with funding options with the storyline, and I liked how the author executed it. Moreover, the story includes some genuinely lovely people who don’t have any ill intentions, like Liz, James, and Toni. The book had a lot of cozy moments, which is a nice change from the

The main criticism of the tale is the relationship between Kane and Amber. Their romance felt rushed, and I didn’t get why Amber kept going after Kane and was madly in love with him, even though they had just met a few times, half of which he was curt with her and quickly lost his temper. Also, Kane was a mixed bag for me. While I felt terrible for him on the one hand for what he goes through, on the other hand, I was not too fond of his attitude and the way he had high expectations of everyone. Frankly, I liked Jason more than Kane because Jason at least spiced up the story with his antics.

Nevertheless, “The Ugliest Man on the Mountain” is a fun read if you are in the mood for a dramatic romance where both characters go through significant ups and downs and try to connect.

The last day of school had finally arrived, and summer break was on. With it came the promise of two and a half months of sun-drenched, fun-filled freedom. There were  Summer camps,  trips,  sports , foods, and nights to look forward to. And to say nothing of summer afternoons hanging out at the town pool or the teenage art of sleeping in. But not every day was all fun and games for Charlie Riverton and his friends. During that memorable summer of ’75, they faced a protracted battle for turf rights in their own backyards.

It wasn’t easy, and they took their lumps along the way. But they stuck together and stood up for themselves. With helpful guidance from a heavenly friend, their shoulders grew a little broader and an unforgettable new chapter was written into Briarcliff Manor folklore.

Come join Charlie, Sky, and the whole cast from A Gift Most Rare on a summer-long, fun-filled, coming of age adventure.

    About the Author:

Tom Leihbacher resides in his hometown of Briarcliff Manor, New York. He and his wife are active in community and church activities. In addition to membership at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, he enjoys dining at the local restaurants, spending time at his family home on Cape Cod, and taking long, daily walks with his rescue dog, The Gipper. His first novel A Gift Most Rare was published in October of 2020. Summer Up! is the sequel. There are two more books under development in this four-part series.

    Summer Up ! Review:

I loved reading “A Gift Most Rare” by the author and was looking forward to “Summer Up.” The story is a beautiful continuation to revisit the characters at Briarcliff. This book focuses more on DMarks, and how he changes during the summer as the group finishes middle grade and prepares for high school.

The author has a beautiful writing style that melts your heart. I enjoyed DMarks in the lead. At times, he is annoying for how he gets the group into trouble, but I loved seeing him transition with Sky’s presence, which even Charlie noticed. The author also adds a touch of adventure and excitement as DMarks faces off his rivalry with Will Morris. It was interesting to see the various pranks the two pull off and also a bit scary as to how far they would go to beat each other. Will also turned out to be one of my favorites.

Moreover, I loved the sense of community, as we also invest in the lives of the other residents at Briarcliff. I adored Mr. Olson and Mary and their budding romance thanks to Taylor and Annabelle. Similarly, Parker and Suzie were cute, and I loved how the author wrote their scenes together. At the same time, I also enjoyed Charlie and Michelle together and found them adorable.

Another beautiful thing about the story is that, even though it is religious, the author doesn’t force down the religious themes too much in the story. The book is beautiful because of the heartwarming characters and their simple idyllic lifestyle, which makes you want to feel like you belong there. I am so excited that two more books are coming out in this series, as I cannot wait to revisit the characters.

Overall, “Summer up!” is a great continuation!

Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose Review:

What an adorable picture book “Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose” was. It is a beautiful book that shows the relationship between a boy and his dog.

Firstly, I must say I enjoy how the team came up with the title. It sounds pretty gross, but something that would appeal to small children and find it funny. However, even though the title would make you think that it is a book about nose picking and boogers, it isn’t. It’s just one page in the entire story. Instead, the creators came up with a beautiful tale about how the main character and his dog share a strong bond. We all yearn to have that one person that we can be ourselves without behaving so that people expect us to adhere. In this book, the boy has that with his dog. He can be his true self with the dog because the dog will always support and protect him no matter what.

Moreover, the illustrations by Lisa Bronson Mezoff are adorable. It’s simple illustrations, but it conveys the message beautifully. The illustrator focuses mainly on blues and greens, and I adored the artist’s expressions on the characters. Some of my favorite pictures were where the boy sings holding the toothbrush or when he goes on imaginary adventures with his companion. The book beautifully conveys the message that you can always be yourself when you are in the company of loved ones.

Overall, “Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose” is a nicely executed picture book that will surely appeal to the target readers.

    Party Problems Review:

I read “Party Problems” from the series, and “Face the Music” did not disappoint. This book revolves around Didi, who mainly finds herself in a dilemma where she plans a wedding event.

Firstly, the author provides good tips and tricks on how to handle such situations. It is always best to work as a team rather than juggling everything yourself and lose your balance. As Didi finds herself drowning in work, she realizes that she needs the help of her friends. Moreover, the author also motivates the reader to turn their passion into a business. I enjoyed the alternate storylines with Resa and her tennis lessons fiasco and Amelia with her secret project.

Similarly, like “Face the Music,” I also loved Val’s character, even though she makes a brief appearance. I hope the team considers Val as part of their group, as I would love a book focusing on her! Also, the book gives excellent tips on starting a business plan and setting up any project professionally so that it is easy to monitor. Also, Didi is adorable in the lead. As an Indian, I loved the Indian references the author made and her relationship with her family. I also chuckled at the Sheila Orbacher references.

However, again, my criticism is on not giving all the characters a chance in the spotlight. This time, there is hardly any mention of Harriet, and I wished the author had made her prominent. She is the funny, quirky one in the group, and I felt that was present in the previous novel but missing in this one.

Overall, “Party Problems” is another excellent addition to “The Startup Squad” series, and I hope they continue to release many more books.

    Face the Music Review:

“Face the Music” is the first book I read from “The Startup Squad” series, but I had no trouble following it.

I immediately loved the book because it encouraged the reader to think about managing a business. Whether it is a small or large one, the writers provide excellent tips on managing a business successfully through good organization and planning and effective customer service. It is never too early to develop these skills. Even if you don’t own a business, these are good attributes for conversing with people and organizing tasks.

The authors also wrote the characters charmingly. Each of the girls brings something new that sets them apart. Harriet is an energetic extrovert but lacking business strategy. Didi is the shy but talented one who comes up with the designs. Resa and Amelia are business savvy and have various ideas to have their merchandise stand out. All of them have a nice friendship where they work together. I also liked the side storyline between Val and Resa and hope Val is prominent in future books.

Similarly, the authors also paced the plot nicely with the team facing challenges to buy Larry a new guitar for Battle of the Bands. However, my only concern with the story was that each of the girls did not have equal time. Didi hardly got any presence in the book. It would have been nice if she was prominent, even if the book did not center around her.

Apart from that, I adored the book and am excited to read the other two books in the series. Overall, “The Startup Squad #2 Face the Music” is a beautiful middle-grade novel worth checking out.
