    Brandon :Tudor Knight Review:

“Brandon: Tudor Knight” is the second book in the Brandon Trilogy and was an excellent continuation of the series.

This book focuses on Brandon, and I found most of the book fascinating. While there are incidents that overlap with the first book, it was interesting to see the events from another person’s perspective. For instance, I felt we got more details to post Little Henry’s events or Thomas Knywett’s incident at the ship in this story. I also enjoyed the small moments, like Brandon’s complex relationship with Henry or the competition between Henry and King Francis. Even little moments, for instance, when they talk about the sweating sickness, engrossed me.

Similarly, I liked Brandon’s bond with Harry and Will. Some of my favorite moments were when Harry asked him to teach him how to joust. One character who I found mesmerizing was Anne Browne. Moreover, even though she makes a brief appearance in each book, she added a sense of drama and mystery to the tale. There were also moments which I felt the author wrote nicely compared to the first book, like the execution of Edward by Henry.

However, there were moments where I felt like I was reading the same passages from the first book, only from Brandon’s perspective. It would have been nice if the author had focused more on Brandon’s life before he met Mary so that we get to know him better. I would have also liked to read more insight between Brandon and Catherine as their relationship was interesting.

Overall, “Brandon” is a lovely continuation to the series, and I am excited to read the next book, “Katherine,” as my interest in the character has spiked from these two books.

    Mary: Tudor Princess Review:

“Mary: Tudor Princess” is a riveting historical fiction that depicts the life of Henry VIII’s sister, and I found her story fascinating.

I enjoyed how the author wrote the story. He tells the tale in a simple yet effective manner. I could immediately connect with Mary from the first page when she reacts to her grandmother’s situation. The author added many layers to her, and you see what a strong character becomes throughout the story. The author also paced the story nicely where you see the various situations Mary encounters. From experiencing what happens to Little Henry to overhearing the plot to overthrow the king, Mary shines in her role.

Even the supporting characters like Lady Catherine and Thomas Wolsey were interesting as they appeared unpredictable, but my opinion of them changed throughout the tale. Some of the memorable moments in the story were when King Francis demanded the return of the jewel or Mary’s scenes with King Louis. The author writes the tales in a beautiful manner that makes you want to research the history of the family post-reading.

One of the highlights of the story was Mary’s complicated relationship with her brother. While she admires him for the way he protects her, it was interesting to see how they did not share the same views, especially regarding the war with France. Another such highlight was her feelings towards Charles Brandon. The two of them share an incredible bond, and it was nice to see how they reconnected after a long time. Similarly, I adored Mary’s friendship with Jane and how Jane stood by her side when necessary.

Overall, I enjoyed reading “Mary: Tudor Princess” and look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

About to turn thirty, Charles Finch finally realizes his luck has run out. He’s twenty thousand pounds in debt, his entire family hates him, and the powerful Duke of Rutley is watching his every move. So Charles sets out to do what any handsome but impoverished earl would: find a young lady with an impressive dowry to marry him and replenish his coffers.

Louisa Strickland much prefers managing the successful estate her father left her to the company of society. But now that her younger sister has come of age, Louisa finds herself in Mayfair, forced to protect her family from desperate fortune hunters like her neighbor, Charles Finch. And when Charles sets his sights on Louisa’s sister, Louisa will do anything to avert his attention elsewhere.

As Charles and Louisa find themselves rekindling an old friendship that once went up in flames, Charles begins to wonder if there could be something more between them. He only needs to prove he’s not the man he once was. But unfortunately for Charles, it will take much more than passionate kisses and giving up brandy to convince independent Louisa to marry a rake like him.

    A Rake Like You Review:

“A Rake Like You” is a charming historical fiction romance and a stunning sequel to “Lady August.

What I enjoyed most about the series, in general, is the author’s beautiful writing style. When I read this book, I felt like I was reading a classic Jane Austen novel. The author brings the characters to life by highlighting their emotions beautifully.

Louisa is a dynamic character and the star of the show. I loved how Louisa wants to maintain her independence and manage the business even though she has feelings for Charles. Moreover, I enjoyed the chemistry between Louisa and Charles. The author writes their tale in the traditional manner where they bicker and don’t get along. However, as they spend more time with one another, you see the feelings between them go stronger. I also liked Louisa’s bond with her sister. Even though in her words, Louisa considers Flora as featherbrained, she feels protective towards her. Even her complicated relationship with her mother was riveting.

Similarly, Charles is also endearing. He realizes that he comes across as a rogue at times, but you see him show his charming side once she spends time with Louisa. Some of the memorable moments in the story were when Louisa and Rosamund plan about who Charles can court and talk about the list. I also liked the tense moments when she meets Lady Ramsbury. The author also adds surprising twists and turns to the tale, especially when Hayward enters the picture. We also get unexpected twists in Flora’s storyline.

Overall, I enjoyed reading “A Rake Like You ” and thought it was a charming sequel. I hope the author continues to write more books in the series and read the next one.

He hoped for a wife. He found a companion through time and beyond.

It is 1715 and for Duncan Melville something fundamental is missing from his life. Despite a flourishing legal practice and several close friends, he is lonely, even more so after the recent death of his father. He needs a wife—a companion through life, someone to hold and be held by. What he wasn’t expecting was to be torn away from everything he knew and find said woman in 2016…

Erin Barnes has a lot of stuff going on in her life. She doesn’t need the additional twist of a stranger in weird outdated clothes, but when he risks his life to save hers, she feels obligated to return the favour. Besides, whoever Duncan may be, she can’t exactly deny the immediate attraction.

The complications in Erin’s life explode. Events are set in motion and to Erin’s horror she and Duncan are thrown back to 1715. Not only does Erin have to cope with a different and intimidating world, soon enough she and Duncan are embroiled in a dangerous quest for Duncan’s uncle, a quest that may very well cost them their lives as they travel through a Scotland poised on the brink of rebellion.

Will they find Duncan’s uncle in time? And is the door to the future permanently closed, or will Erin find a way back?

    About the Author:

Left to her choice, Anna would have become a time-traveller. As this was impossible, she became a financial professional with two absorbing interests: history and writing. Anna has authored the acclaimed time travelling series The Graham Saga, set in 17th century Scotland and Maryland, as well as the equally acclaimed medieval series The King’s Greatest Enemy which is set in 14th century England.

More recently, Anna has published The Wanderer, a fast-paced contemporary romantic suspense trilogy with paranormal and time-slip ingredients. While she loved stepping out of her comfort zone (and will likely do so again ) she loves to go back in medieval times in her September 2020 release, His Castilian Hawk. Set against the complications of Edward I’s invasion of Wales, His Castilian Hawk is a story of loyalty, integrity—and love.

    The Whirlpools of Time Review:

I have not read any of the author’s previous books of the “Graham saga” series, but that did not stop me from enjoying the story. It’s been a while since I read a good time travel story, and the author does an excellent job adapting to this charming historical romance.

The author adds a touch of everything from action and adventure to steamy romance and drama. Right from the beginning, I enjoyed the chemistry between Duncan and Erin. On a side note, I also liked the references to the King George timeline and felt the author made the backdrop as authentic as possible. The author also wrote the villains nicely in the story, like the dastardly Cruikshank. I also enjoyed Arabella and Williams as the supporting cast as the group goes on their journey.

Duncan was my favorite character, and I loved how the author added various layers to him. Duncan tries to do his best, even if he messes up at times. Some of the memorable moments are when Duncan experiences the new world, like being in a car or finding out that women can work. I also loved how Erin adapts to her new surroundings. The author spins the story in such a manner that you cannot predict what would happen.

Moreover, the author does not disappoint in the romance department. Considering that this is a historical romance, the author steams up the pages when we see Erin and Duncan get together. The author also ends the story in a cliffhanger that makes you look forward to reading the next installment.

Overall, I enjoyed reading “The Whirlpools of Time” and am excited to see how the story continues.

Then the arrival of mysterious and handsome British intelligence officer Major Noah Benson offers a chance of help. But Noah may be as dangerous as he is charming. As she’s swept away by stolen moments on the desert sands, Ginger realizes her heart may also be at risk.

    Windswept Review:

“Windswept” swept me away right from the first page, and I could not put it down.

The author has an exquisite writing style, and her narrative made me connect to the characters from the beginning. The story has everything you look for in historical fiction, from romance to drama, with thrills and adventure.

I loved Ginger in the lead! She is what I envision a perfect heroine to be in such a novel. She goes through many emotions in the story, from her scenes with Ahmed to her encounters with Noah. On the one hand, she needs to deal with the horrors she witnessed as a nurse. On the other hand, she gets entangled in a complicated love relationship with someone likely to break her heart. If this is not enough, she also has to deal with her family, like her father and Henry. Throughout the saga, the author takes us on a trip from Palestine to Egypt, where Ginger witnesses events that shape her as a person. I loved the various nuances the author brought to her character. Some moments also shocked me, like when the soldier rips her skirt, and my heart went out for her.

Moreover, I loved the romance between Ginger and Noah. I was rooting for them throughout the tale. The author also gives us a few surprising twists and turns when she introduces additional characters to conflict their relationship. On a side note, the intense storyline involving Ahmed also riveted me. Even the supporting characters like Beatrice and Henry added nicely to the story.

Overall, “Windswept” is a magnificent book to read. If you want a story of love, heartache, betrayal set against the backdrop of the Great War, you should read this!

“Like the most memorable of its vividly drawn characters, The Spirited Mrs. Pringle is clever, lively, and unabashedly entertaining. The Spirited Mrs Pringle Review:

“The Spirited Mrs. Pringle” is a compelling historical fiction novel about two women who take risks that impact their lives, and I enjoyed it!

The highlight of the storyline is the two main leads. It was interesting to read the two contrasting storylines between Cora and Amelia. The story starts with Cora mourning the loss of her husband Marshall, whereas Amelia is happily marrying her best friend, Simon. As the story progresses, you see how the dynamics between the two characters change as they go through ups and downs.

Cora is dynamic. On the one hand, my heart went out to Cora as she realizes her whole world is collapsing with insolvency. On the other hand, Cora’s manipulations irked me because of the way Cora cheats to make a living as Lady Selene. But, a part of me also wanted to see how far she would go with her plan. Nevertheless, Cora was the more charismatic person in the tale.

Moreover, I enjoyed the relationship between Cora and Everett. While I don’t condone their operations, I could not help by enjoying their chemistry. The other author their relationship wonderfully. Initially, Cora feels the need to hold a knife when she is near him, but that gradually changes as she spends more time with him.

Similarly, I was intrigued by Amelia’s world in the newspaper and want to be the best. The author spins the story in s a deliciously excellent manner where we see the two protagonists involved in a game to be the best, even if it means bringing down the other one. I also enjoyed how the author included the famous incidents of Jack the Ripper and Nellie Bly into the tale.

Overall, “The Spirited Mrs. Pringle” is a creative historical fiction novel worth picking up.

    Cad’s Choice Review:

“Cad’s Choice” is the last book in the Cads trilogy and my favorite one from the set.

Now, this is a satisfying addition to the trilogy! If you read my review of the previous book, you would know that I was a tad disappointed at how it sounded similar to the first one. However, the author pushed all the right buttons, and “Cad’s Choice” was a lovely addition to the series.

I adored Sheridan and found him to be unique and probably the best character in the series. He is a cad but is a flawed one, and you see many layers of him. The author writes his romance with Sophia beautifully, and I found both of them to be exquisite.

Moreover, I enjoyed the author’s angle and twists when we get Aurora Newton and her mother, Millicent. Aurora spices up the story when she comes to Sheridan’s life, and he has to contemplate marrying her. Even Millicent adds to be quite the negative character in the story, which I found missing in the previous novels.

Not only that, but the author also focuses more on Neville, the father we seldom saw in the previous novels. I enjoyed getting to know him more in this tale and was surprised by how crass his character appeared in a few scenes. On a side note, I also liked how we saw characters from the previous novels, like Hunter, be more prominent in the tale.

Overall, “Cad’s Choice” became my favorite book in the series and made me appreciate the trilogy even more.

It’s been four years since seventeen-year-old Ruth set eyes on her fiancé.

After surviving near-starvation, revolution and a long trip across the stormy ocean, she can’t help but wonder. Will Abraham still love her? Or has America changed him?

Nowhere’s as full of change as 1909 New York. From moving pictures to daring clothes to the ultra-modern Triangle Shirtwaist Factory where she gets a job, everything exhilarates Ruth. The New World even seems to rejuvenate her bond with Abraham. And she is filled with hope for their prospects and the future of their war-torn families.

But then she makes friends and joins the labor movement. She starts fighting for rights of the mostly female workers against the powerful factory owners. Then she realizes she might be the one America is changing. And she just might be leaving Abraham behind.

The Girl in the Triangle is a historical immigration story that will appeal to fans of Brooklyn by Colm Toibin and The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani. It questions what it means to be an American, and what is the true meaning of strength.

    About the Author:

JOYANA PETERS grew up in New York and loves exploring–this led to her discovery of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire and the stories it holds. She currently lives in the DC area and continues to write narratives that shine a light on empowering women and moments in history.

Let me start by saying that I had not heard about the “Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire” events before reading this book. I always love stories that inspire me to research a topic further, and I admire the author for telling this story so realistically.

Firstly, I thought the author did a fantastic job of writing this book as her debut novel. She writes the characters and the catastrophic incident wonderfully, as well as depicting the aftermath. I especially liked how Ruth deals with the situation after the event takes place. Also, having lived in Manhattan for a few years, I could easily visualize the setting from the author’s beautiful descriptions of that era. The author paces the story nicely, where we slowly see how the family goes through many situations and challenges and how the incident impacts them.

However, the highlight of the story was Ruth. I thought the author wrote her brilliantly. It was fun to see the contrasting differences between Ruth and her sister Ester. While Ester is eager to go to school and learn, Ruth prefers to learn English at her own pace. Also, I admired how the author made Ruth such a strong character where she still respects and values her roots and is not afraid to stand up for what is right, even if she is in a new country. I loved the Russian traditions and Jewish values Ruth reflects on throughout the book. The author also wrote about Ruth’s relationship with her fiancee, Abraham, realistically, where they have their ups and downs. Even the supporting characters like Chayele, Clara, and Anne added nicely.

Overall, “The Girl in the Triangle” is a beautiful historical fiction that I loved reading because of its subject matter and the memorable characters.

Jane Stafford, raised in America, is in for a shock when she learns she is a wealthy heiress, her late father was an earl, and her English mother is alive. Anxious to meet the woman she long-thought dead, she travels to London. There  her sinfully handsome guardian whisks her away to a remote estate to school her in the ways of the ton.

Gilbert Carmichael, Lord Ralston, chafes at having to make a rebellious young heiress acceptable to society, especially one who is impetuous and blatantly democratic. Because the instruction she needs is more than deportment and dancing. It’s also about how to spot a rake who might woo her for her fortune.

When Ralston learns his ward is to be used as a pawn in an elaborate scheme involving a secret impersonation, he will move heaven and earth to keep her safe. Because proximity has brought the uncomfortable knowledge that his interest may be more than duty—it just might be love.

    About the Author:

Author of eight books on California history and sixteen romance novels, Pamela Gibson is a former City Manager who now lives in the Nevada desert. She has a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in public administration, but her passion is and always has been writing.

Having spent three years messing about in boats, a hobby that included a five-thousand-mile trip in a 32-foot Nordic Tug, she now spends most of her time indoors happily reading, writing, cooking and keeping up with the antics of Ralph, her Siamese rescue cat.

    Scandal’s Deception Review:

I honestly did not know that this was a part of a series before reading, but that did not stop me from enjoying the book. Frankly, the book turned out to be very entertaining and prompted me to read the first book in the series, “Scandal’s Child.”

I have read quite a few historical novels with intrigue and romance and had a notion of what to expect with this story. The author, however, surprised me by making the book unique and kept me guessing. I wondered why Jane’s mother never came to see her or why Jocelyn did not bond with her. The author maintained a certain level of mystery throughout the story as Jane tries to find answers. There are also some thrilling moments, like when Jane is held captive and needs to find a way to escape. There was never a dull moment in the story.

Moreover, considering that this is a romance novel, I enjoyed Jane’s chemistry with Lord Ralston. In the beginning, he is only her guardian. But as they spend more time together, the sparks fly between them. Albeit a tad cliched, the romance scenes were still entertaining to read. Frankly, I enjoyed reading this novel mainly for its mysterious plot. The author also wrote the characters charmingly, and I adored Jane in the lead. She is not afraid to show her emotions and comes off as a solid and likable person. Apart from Lord Ralston, I also enjoyed her scenes with Lady Amelia.

Overall, “Scandal’s Deception” is a great historical romance with intrigue, and you can read it as a standalone. If all the previous books are as good as this one, I will indeed be reading them.

It’s been a week since the funeral, and Mali is at her mother’s Manhattan apartment, ready to pack it up. At least that’s what she thinks, until she discovers a manila envelope, propped up against the back of her mother’s desk. And it is full of a mass of   unsent letters. Her mother’s handwriting on the lined note paper is very familiar. And  the slight German accent Mali hears ticking through her words, so haunting.

Mali reads the memories of her mother’s Jewish childhood in 1930s Berlin, then her life in war-torn London. But then she comes to her mother’s account of her too-early marriage. This includes the divorce that forced her to leave her young daughter in London and go to New York.  Now  Mali is thrust back into her own unhappy childhood.  And where that relentless ache for her absent mother, lodged like a stony pit inside her, must now be reconciled.

    About the Author:

Jacquie Herz doesn’t remember a time in her life-even as a young child growing up in London-when writing was not part of it. She has been published in the Metropolitan Diary and Connecticut Section of the New York Times. And is a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association and the Women’s National Book Association.

Splitting her time with her husband between Connecticut and Florida, she is currently working on her second novel.

    Circumference Of Silence Review:

“Circumference of Silence” is a haunting emotional journey that showcases the beautiful bond between a mother and her daughter, and the story moved me.

The author has a beautiful way of telling the story. Right from the beginning, you feel like you are connected with Mali and her mother as Mali starts reading the letters. Reading this story made me reminisce about my parent’s lives as well. We sometimes don’t realize how much our parents have struggled and have so much more life experience than us as we grow up. The author beautifully captures Mali’s emotions by reading her mother’s various experiences as a Jewish girl during WWII. There are also moments where you want to hug the character, especially when she says that she is so lonely and that her writing has become her only solace.

Similarly, the author toggled between the present and the past, where you see how Mali forms a connection with Eva through just the letters. The author also inserts beautiful passages into the conversations, like how she mentioned the past has a way of altering itself to suit us, which made me ponder some of my own experiences. The author also adds exciting moments like when Mali thinks of Julia’s involvement with the Russian Jewry to march for their freedom and participating in protests. Similarly, I also liked how David’s role had a ripple effect on Eva’s life and how he impacted her decisions. On a side note, I also adore the recommendations the author made to other books like Vikram Seth’s Two Lives.

Overall, “Circumference of Silence” is a beautiful novel that makes you appreciate your family values and heritage, and I loved reading it.
