    Author Bio:

Scary stories, especially ones that shocked me, left me terrified, looking under my bed or in the wardrobe before going to sleep was always interesting.

Stayed at my nan’s house in Ireland as a youngster with my mother and sister, on the West Coast, in a cottage, surrounded by miles of fields. And my family sitting around the table in the kitchen at night telling ghost stories. Going out and exploring derelict farmhouses in the middle of nowhere. I remember clearly the field at the end of the road was supposed to be haunted by headless nuns. My cousins often remind me of the great times we had, frightening each other and running for our lives whenever we’d see something that didn’t look right.

I’m so grateful when people not only read my thrillers but also take the time to get in touch and leave a review. To me, that is the greatest feeling, hearing from people that have enjoyed my work.  And I know then that I’m doing something right.

I’m 45, married and have two beautiful children. Currently, I’m a full-time plumber but would love nothing more than to make a living from my writing. I hope I write stories and people continue to enjoy them for years to come. That would be completely amazing and a dream come true.

“The App” is a roller-coaster horror ride you cannot take down once you start reading.

I just finished reading this book, and I still have goosebumps. The author created a setting that’s so relevant to the present times, where all of us are addicted to our phones and spend countless house on our favorite apps. What if your best friend, who you closely trust, sends you the link to an app promising riches? Wouldn’t you be tempted to install it, hardly realizing it could be a death trap? I love the concept of the story and feel the author executed it well (where even the mechanisms feel tech-savvy). The author adds something exciting in each chapter where Marty, our hero, has to make a life-changing decision.

Marty is excellent in the lead, and I loved how protective he is towards Abbey and Beth. He is by no means superman but does what any average person would do to save his family while they are on the run and hunted down like animals. Similarly, Jonathan is an alarming character that the author wrote well. His backstory from 1981 intrigued me and crept me to see the person he became, especially in the scenes with Aunt Joyce. Even supporting characters like Gary and Davey add nicely to the mix. But, apart from Marty, the other highlight of the story was ETHEL! I loved her, and she blended humor into the tale so well! I never believe horror and comedy mix reasonably, but I would give an exception for Ethel because her dialogues and sassiness (not to mention her love for Coronation Street) just had me giggling.

Overall, “The App” is a gripping suspense, thriller, and horror novel that keeps you entertained and is worth reading!

When Lily loses her job, she also loses the last thing that kept her from heading to Southend-on-Sea, in search of her estranged sister, whom she suspects has joined a dangerous new cult.

The Glow are so named for their bioluminescent plastic island, which floats in the North Sea. In a near future rife with plastic pollution, they have no shortage of material to keep their island growing. It’s rumored that the inhabitants draw power from an asteroid that once landed there-but anyone who has ever gone in search of answers has disappeared.

Will Lily make it to the island and find her sister? If so, will she make it back out alive?

    About the Author:

Leo X. Robertson grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, met his husband in Gijon, Spain, and eventually moved to Stavanger, Norway, where he works as a process engineer, writes fiction, and makes short films with the Stavanger Filmmakers Club. An author of unclassifiable fiction that tends towards the dark and speculative, he has short stories published by Helios Quarterly, Flame Tree Publishing, and Pulp Literature, as well as novellas published by Unnerving and Nihilism Revised. On his podcast, Losing the Plot, in association with Aphotic Realm magazine, he interviews other authors about anything and everything (hence the show’s title.)

He appears to be at work on numerous novels, short stories, and short film scripts. Also, he loves his sister dearly and, if necessary, would easily take a boat out to a plastic island and feign interest in joining a cult for her.

    The Glow Review:

“The Glow” is a very creative, science-fiction horror that I can easily see in a movie/TV series format, and it was an exciting read.

If you are a reluctant reader but love a good fantasy, science-fiction horror, then you must pick up this book. While the story is short, it is powerful. A LOT happens in each chapter as our main character Lily goes on a mission to see her sister Joanna. I liked Lily in the lead and thought she was intelligent and courageous to undergo the task, knowing the challenges she would face.

The author also builds the world nicely, and I thought the concept of Glow Island was genius. We see how detailed the author describes the Island Lily enters the Island and meets Summer, and goes on the tour. Some disturbing scenes make the book memorable on what Lily experiences while she is there. Moreover, the plot is swift, leading to an exciting climax that I immensely enjoyed. The story’s entire premise was gripping and had my interest glued to it. There are also character moments, like the conversation between Lily and Joanna, that give depth to the characters.

Perhaps the only reason why this was four stars was that everything happens so quickly. I would have loved to know more about Patricia, Summer, Melodie, and their backstories. Also, while we got details about the Island, there were still some unexplained questions. I would love this book to be set as a prequel for a new series and revisit these characters, especially Patricia and Gabriel.

Overall, “The Glow” is a fun, exciting read worth picking up, and you can quickly finish it in one reading.

She has repeated  nightmare. But she can’t wake up.

Emily is devastated when she receives an anonymous note proving her long-term boyfriend has been cheating on her.

Determined to confront him, she tracks him to a seedy bar far off the highway and they have a massive row. As she storms out the door, she rejects a stranger named Daniel who tries to pick her up.

When she returns to her car, it won’t start. Even worse, her phone has no signal, and no way is she going back into the bar to ask her boyfriend for help.

Emily has no choice but to walk. As she trudges down the desolate highway, Daniel drives by and offers her a ride. She’s scared by his sudden reappearance and refuses him again.

But Daniel won’t take no for an answer. As Emily walks on, he keeps coming back and each time he is more threatening, more menacing. As this terrifying game of cat and mouse steadily escalates, Emily begins to wonder if she’ll ever get off this lonely road alive.

But who is Daniel really? And what does he know about Emily?

    About the Author:

Cole Baxter loves writing psychological suspense thrillers. It’s all about that last reveal that he loves shocking readers with.

He grew up in New York, where there crime was all around. He decided to turn that into something positive with his fiction.

His stories will have you reading through the night—they are very addictive!

I Won’t Let You Go Review:

Goodness! This book gave me the shivers, mainly because of Emily and Daniel. The story is a cat and mouse game, and the author keeps you at the edge of your seat as Emily tries to survive the psychopath. The author writes the suspense so intensely that you cannot put the phone down. Daniel is one of the most unpredictable, creepy villains, and I hope I never encounter someone like him in real life. The way he stalked Emily, tormented her, and mentally broke her down unnerved me and gave me goosebumps. Emily is great in the lead. Even though the whole story spans less than 24 hours, I feel we get to see Emily mature and go through many emotional changes. You see her go from angry to scared, and eventually, a brave girl who still manages to see good in people, especially men, after what she encounters with Daniel.

Moreover, the supporting characters in the second half made the story so memorable. I loved Ollie and Mary as a couple and wished they were prominent in the first half. Similarly, I also liked Det. Cole, even though she makes a brief appearance.

Perhaps the only downside to the tale is how there are many loose ends, especially how Daniel managed to do what he did. For instance, how did he find Emily on top of the tree? And was he responsible for the blackout? We don’t get explanations and rely more on Emily’s assumptions. It would have been nice if there had been a follow-up on how Daniel executed everything. Also, some parts initially were a bit repetitive at how Daniel mocks Emily and the pacing staggers.

Overall, I loved reading “I Won’t Let You Go” and would be checking out more of the author’s works.

The Haunting of Mackenzie Blake Review:

I have not read any of the books in the series, but I feel you can read any of them as a standalone. I enjoyed the book’s premise, as a couple moves into a haunted home in New Orleans and the family drama and dynamics once they uncover the house’s secrets.

The stand out in the tale is the main characters. I liked how the author wrote the entire cast and made them stand apart. Mackenzie sometimes got on my nerves because she always took Ethan’s side over Jasper. Jasper is probably my favorite character because he is the only one who throughout logically. He gave in to a lot of Mackenzie’s demands, and even I was supporting him. I felt like shaking Mackenzie to listen to her husband and leave the house rather than risking her life to save Ethan.
Similarly, I liked Ethan and his interest in learning about voodoo with the influence of Kent. I liked how the author wrote the family drama, especially the tension between Mackenzie, Ethan, and Jasper. Even Amber was fun, even if she appeared for a short time. Add in a house with a family of ghosts where the couple resides, and the story glued to me.

However, I felt the author paced the story a bit slowly. Nothing scary happens for the most part, as even the ghosts are not as vengeful as I thought. I liked the whodunit aspect, even though we learn about that halfway into the story. It would have been nice if the author added more shocking sweets and made the story creepy.

Other than that, I thought “The Haunting of Mackenzie Blake” was a decent supernatural thriller and sparked my interest to pick the first book in the series to read more.

    Dead Silence Review:

“Dead Silence” is like “Star Trek” meets “The Haunting of Hill House,” and I could not put it down.

Right from the get-go, the author sets the page as we see Claire trying to defend herself to Reed and MAx at the Verux Peace and Rehabilitation center. The story is terrifying and creepy, and I enjoyed how the author wrote the horror and suspense. There are some shocking scenes and gory deaths that you don’t expect. Yet, you also have moments where just the silence or the smell will give you goosebumps. The story takes a full swing as soon as the crew sets foot in the Aurora. On a side note, I also enjoyed the futuristic world-building and about the first colonist on Mars and how the author set the landscape for terror.

Moreover, the author draws the characters realistically, and I liked how we hear the story from Claire’s perspective. Claire is good in the lead, and I enjoyed how she has a sense of responsibility for her crew, and even the tiny moments like when she studies the inventory and food supplies and monitors the ship. As the story progressed, I felt like I was part of the crew with Voller, Kane, Lourdes, and Nysus. Each of them brought something new to the table, like Voller being loud, Kane being cautious, and Nysus with the details. Some highlights for me were when Claire sees her mother or navigating through the Aurora and discovering the bodies. The story leads to a thrilling climax, and I could not put the book down.

Overall, “Dead Silence” is an exciting science-fiction thriller worth checking out. I loved reading the book, even though I am not a science-fiction fan.

Can she keep the secrets of her past to rescue a girl tormented by a ghost?

In 1920s Los Angeles, Letitia Hawking reads the veil between life and death. A scrying bowl allows her to experience the final moments of the deceased. She brings closure to grief-stricken war widows and mourning families.
For Letitia, it is a penance. She knows no such peace.

For Alasdair Driscoll, it may be the only way to save his niece, Finola, from her growing night terrors. But when Letitia sees a shadowy figure attached to the household, it rouses old fears of her unspeakable past in England.

When a man comes to her about his missing daughter, the third girl to go missing in as many months, Letitia can’t help him when she can’t see who’s taken them.

As a darkness haunts Letitia’s vision, she may not be given a choice in helping the determined Mr Driscoll, or stop herself falling in love with him. But to do so risks a part of herself she locked away, and to release it may cost Letitia her sanity and her heart.

    About the Author:

E.J. Dawson both credits and blames her mother-by reading The Lord of the Rings aloud to E.J. twice-for her complete absorption with the world of fiction. Growing up in a haunted mansion sandwiched between an abandoned mine and an endless pine plantation should have been all the fuel E.J.’s imagination needed.

But her parents filled her life with stories: about themselves, their lives, and the ones they had found through the pages of books.

    Behind the Veil Review:

“Behind the Veil” is a beautifully constructed gothic tale surrounding a medium with a haunted past, and I could not put it down.

This book felt special as soon as I picked it up. I loved Letitia from the get-go and found her intriguing because of her special powers. The author describes her powers so grippingly that I was fascinated by the character. Moreover, I also liked how Letitia responds to Driscoll’s behavior. Even though he is thoughtful and treats her with respect, it was interesting to see how Letitia doesn’t fall for his charms and generosity. However, the author portrays her feelings for Driscoll beautifully, especially when you see how tormented she is over Daniel. I also liked the little moments, like the relationship Letitia has with her Imogen.

What’s lovely about the tale is how the author beautifully blends a little of everything. The story is gothic, mysterious, suspenseful, romantic, all interwoven in a historical backdrop. A few noteworthy moments in the tale are when she meets Driscoll the first time, the unsettling feeling Letitia gets when she studies the house before meeting Finola, or when she meets Detective Andrews. As the story progresses, you get personally invested in the characters and wonder how Letitia could solve the mystery when combating her demons. The author also writes all the supporting characters you strongly feel towards them, like Mrs. Quinn, Mr. Wdwards, and Mr. Barkley. Moreover, the ending was epic as we see a fight of good vs. evil.

Overall, if you love movies like “The Conjuring” series, you will love reading “Behind the Veil.” I hope the author continues to write many such stories in this genre.

Some houses hold secrets that are meant to be kept forever…

When Eliza Sullivan inherits an estate from a recently deceased aunt, she leaves behind a guilt ridden past in New Orleans for rural England and a fresh start. Eliza arrives at her new home and finds herself falling for the mysterious lord of Havenwood, Malcolm Winfield. Despite the sinister rumors that surround him, his melancholy charm and his crumbling, once-beautiful mansion attracts Eliza. With enough love, she thinks, both man and manor could be repaired.

Not long into their marriage, Eliza fears that she should have listened to the locals. There’s something terribly wrong at Havenwood Manor: Forbidden rooms. Ghostly whispers in the shadows. Strangely guarded servants. And Malcolm’s threatening moods, as changeable as night and day.

As Eliza delves deeper into Malcolm’s troubling history, the dark secrets she unearths gain a frightening power. Has she married a man or a monster? For Eliza, uncovering the truth will either save her or destroy her.

    Parting the Veil Review:

“Parting the Veil” is a fantastic debut by the author and one of the best gothic novels I read this year.

I still cannot believe that this is the author’s debut novel because it is SO good! In the beginning, things seem normal as Eliza goes to her aunt’s estate. However, it is only once Eliza steps into Havenwood Manor that things get so interesting. The author takes you on a wild ride as we have scenes with tarot reading, strange noises, secret diaries, mysterious apparitions, and even a suspenseful seance event! I particularly loved the scenes where Eliza starts reading Ada’s diary entries as we get more background into the Manor history. There are also some intense moments as Eliza hears the noises and sees the specter!

The author adds so many twists and turns that I was not able to put this book down. I had no idea how the story was going to progress, and the author executed it wonderfully! Eliza is lovely in the read as she tries to figure out what she got herself. I loved her intense relationship with Malcolm. Malcolm was also an interesting character, as he was unpredictable, and you didn’t know what would set him off. I also enjoyed some of the other strange characters like Charles and Una. Una, in particular, was creepy too, with her hostility towards Eliza. Frankly, I hope the author continues to write many such excellent novels, as she has a beautiful talent for gluing you into the tale.

Overall, “Parting the Veil” an excellent, suspenseful, gothic, historical fiction, and I would highly recommend it to those who are fans of the genre.

Welcome to Blackhaven, October 31st, 1984…
It’s the era of drive-ins, home computers, board games and, of course, the video nasty.

In this small, sleepy town, cut off from the hardships and the horrors of the modern world, the people have enjoyed a fruitful, peaceful history for all of the 300 years since its founding.
That’s all about to change… Something is coming. But Something unspeakable. And Something evil.
300 years ago to the day, the founders of Blackhaven made a deal with an outside force in order to secure their comfort and safety.

A deal that now, centuries later – as the innocent townsfolk celebrate Allhallow’s Eve with slasher screenings, trick or treating and fire-lit woodland parties – finally requires payment. A deal that will see the streets run red, and the fires rise. The people of Blackhaven are about to learn the true cost of sacrifice, and the true meaning of the witching season.
Hell is coming to claim what’s owed. And the Devil will have his day….
WARNING – Contains disturbing imagery, graphic violence and scenes of a sexual nature.

    Blackhaven Review:

Let me tell you – This book was just excellent! Growing up, the epic novels that Stephen King wrote surrounding Castle Rock got me into this genre. “Blackhaven” made me reminisce about those books because the author wrote them wonderfully! Once you start reading this book, you cannot put it down!

Firstly, I loved how the author wrote the story, featuring multiple characters. I loved Emma, Mike, and Toby! What’s lovely about the book is how your perception of the characters changes throughout the story. In the beginning, you find them to be average. But as the story progressed, I thought they were larger than life in some of the scenes. Mike’s love for his family, and Emma’s strength over the events, made the story memorable.

Similarly, I adored Candace, but my emotions about her changed towards the end. But, there were characters like Sid and Alan who I despised throughout. It’s been a while since I got so personally invested with the characters, and this book made me close it a few times and not open it because of how it shocked me.

The author also writes the plot with the perfect atmosphere. I thought I was watching a classic horror movie like “Halloween” as I read the tale. Considering that I read this book one day before Halloween, I thought it set me in the mood for a holiday. The Collectors creeped me out, and the book is action-packed throughout the second half. Right from the beginning, you know that this book would be epic when you read about the creepy sacrifice that takes place.

Overall, I hope there is a sequel. I want to read all the books by this author and need more!

Charlie must face challenges no mortal should ever have to undertake .
Challenges that threaten to claim and destroy his very soul.
How far would you go to save someone you love ?.

DESCENT TO HELL is contemporary horror thriller, perfect for readers who like to be scared witless

    About the Author:

Nic Parker was born in 1971 and lives in a rural part of Germany with her husband and seven cats. She fell in love with England on a school trip and has been travelling to the UK frequently ever since.

She worked in various jobs, can tell a good garment from crap, can help you find the perfect bra, knows which hotels not to book and knows the tricks of the insurance industry but her favourite job is as a bookkeeper.

Her love for horror stories and anything dark and decaying developed early in her childhood with comics and the old classic movies. The 80s were the most formative years for her when she hunted every gory video nasty she could find and started reading Clive Barker. Her taste for music is still mostly stuck in this decade, as is her undying love for neon and pastel colours.

She was already writing stories as a teenager but was disheartened by people telling her that as an outsider you don’t have any chances of being published. She learned not to trust the nay-sayers and to rather follow her dreams.

Writing is pure escapism for her and she’s happiest when she can conjure up new worlds and nasty characters.

Her hobbies include reading, movies, art, gardening, cooking and travelling to meet with friends.

    Descent to Hell Review:

How far would you go to save a loved one? Charlie should win Uncle of the year for the lengths he goes through to save Susie literally by going to Hell.

Charlie and Max are the stars of the show! Max and Charlie’s friendship also grew on me. While I was not too fond of Max initially, I liked how she bonded with Charlie. She wills to go with him through the mountain of despair to find Susie and save her from Nergal. Another character who surprised me was Lucifer. I loved how the author changed my perception of these characters and made me look at them differently.

The story never has a dull moment, particularly the chapters revolving around Charlie, like when he goes down the spiral staircase and searches for the door. Some of the story’s highlights are when Charlie converses with Lucifer or enters the mountain and Nergal’s fortress. The story leads to a gripping climax with multiple twists and turns where you don’t know what will happen. Similarly, Jonathan black creeped me out and was a formidable villain.

The only criticism I have of the story is that I wished the supporting characters were more prominent. Initially, even Clark felt like a compelling character in looking at the case from a logical standpoint. Initially, I felt the character had a lot of potentials, but as the story progressed, I thought that he was not as strong as Charlie for the way Black manipulates him. Pam is also a likable character in how she gives in Charlie’s love for Susie. I wished the author had made these two characters more visible as they had a lot of potentials.

Overall, I loved reading “Descent to Hell” and thought it was a fabulous Good vs. Evil story.

What started out as a night of celebration for Aimee soon turned into a nightmare. Snatched by cruel, sadistic monsters – the worst creatures mankind has ever produced – she’s thrown into a metal container, among other victims too frightened to make a single sound.

The game-keepers force everyone to play. They deliver torment and pain in equal measure. Every hunter has their own agenda and reasons to maim and torture.

Detective Johnson is one step away from catching the killers. Wrestling with his instincts as a father to serve justice his own way, this is no ordinary case for him. Can he stop the vile sadists before they damage more young girls, as well as his own daughter?

Aimee’s ordeal within the compound brings her to the conclusion that she’s no ordinary girl. But can she hang onto her sanity long enough to escape? And will she find a different way to play?

This crime thriller will keep you riveted. It’s no ordinary story.

    Prey Review:

What would you do if you woke up and found yourself trapped by madmen, knowing they would end your life? “Prey” was a creepy and disturbing horror novel that gave me shivers.

The book is a relatively short one to read but so compelling. There is a lot that happens in each chapter, which would creep you out. The author does not shy away from the horror as Aimee tries to escape the situation she finds herself in. Speaking of Aimee, I enjoyed her as the main character. If when the case seems grim, she has the strength to fight and have hope.

Another reason why I liked this book is because of how the author took it in the second half. Usually, in such stories, the suspense intensifies right till the end. However, in this book, the second half deals more with the aftermath of the situation, which I thought was a good touch. As the story progresses, you start to see how complex the operation is. Detective Johnson is also a decent addition to the tale. It was also interesting to read about Chico’s back story.

However, some moments were challenging to read, like the scene with what Angel does to Marcus. While I don’t mind gory stuff, some scenes were too graphic for my taste. There are many explicit scenes of torture and molestation, so you might get queasy in some locations if you are not used to that. Some moments that gave me goosebumps were Ray’s attempt to escape and when we find that Aimee is still missing after the raid.

Overall, “Prey” turned out to be more horrific than I had imagined it would be, as it felt like something that could happen in reality.
