Debut voice Alison Ames delivers with a chilling, feminist thriller, perfect for fans of Wilder Girls and Sawkill Girls.

Moon Basin has been haunted for as long as anyone can remember. It started when there was a big explosion in the mine. As a result, sixteen people were killed. The disaster made it impossible to live in town, with underground fires spewing ash into the sky. But life in New Basin is just as fraught. As such, the ex-mining town relies on its haunted reputation to bring in tourists. But there’s more truth to the rumors than most are willing to admit.  And it is believed the mine still has a hold on everyone who lives there.

Clem and Nina form a perfect loop, best friends forever, and perhaps something more. Their circle opens up for a strange girl named Lisey with a knack for training crows, and Piper, whose father is fascinated with the mine in a way that’s anything but ordinary.  Further, the people of New Basin start experiencing strange phenomena. All of a sudden, they observe sleepwalking, night terrors, voices that only they can hear. And no matter how many vans of ghost hunters roll through, nobody can get to the bottom of what’s really going on. Which is why the girls decide to enter the mine themselves.

    About the Author:

Alison Ames lives in Colorado with a lot of animals and her almost-wife. Besides, she loves birds, comics, and the rule of three. THE HAUNTING OF MOON BASIN is her debut novel. Also, Find her on social media @2furiosa. And if you know (or are) Harry Styles she insists you do so..

    To Break a Covenant Review:

“To Break a Covenant” is an AMAZING Young Adult Horror novel and one of the most notable YA books I have read this year!

This book gave me goosebumps! When the story began, I did not know what to expect. I thought it would be a story of Clem with her friends solving a mystery of Moon Basin. But the story is so much more than that!

The author writes the story in a deliciously gripping manner where the horror slowly creeps on you. The story had me on the edge of my seat after we see Carlisle starts to change. The story gets chilly and gruesome as you continue the tale, and some scenes would probably give me nightmares. One of my favorite moments is when the girls go to the mines for the first time and how they all experience something different down there. The author also makes the book interesting by including interview transcripts with various townspeople impacted by the mines.

Moreover, I loved all the characters. It is so hard to choose a favorite because I thought they brought something new to the story. Clem and Nina are unique, and I loved the possible romance between the two. Piper got a fresh look at the story as the newbie in town, and Lisey a sense of mystery with her obsession with crows. Another reason why I loved the story is that the author also adds some drama to the characters. I loved how Nina gets jealous of Piper and the scenes where they confront their feelings.

Overall, you must read “To Break a Covenant” if you are in the mood for a haunting Young Adult read with memorable characters.

    Small Town Monsters Review:

As a fan of horror movies like “The Conjuring,” I devoured “Small Town Monsters,” and could not put it down.

I loved the way the author executed this book. She beautifully mixes the emotional moments between Max and Vera and the scary experiences they face. The author also sets the atmosphere of Roaring Creek in a creepy manner, where you see the possibility of many supernatural tales taking place, like the Fear Street books. This book has moments of pure horror that you would expect from movies “The Exorcist” or “The Conjuring” flawlessly made for the young adult genre.

Moreover, the author also adds in some eerie scenes, like when Max sees his mother smoking with strangers or Vera sees the skeleton in the fog. The Angel of Tears had me to the edge of my seat, and I wondered how the author would navigate the tale. I could not put this book down, especially when Father Chuck enters the story in the second half.

Vera and Max both stand out in the story. I cannot even imagine how self-conscious Vera would feel if she were real, and I admire how the author brought out her emotions. Vera knows that people talk about her because of her parents, yet the girl doesn’t have her parents’ skills. On the other hand, Vera is brave for opening to Max and trying to help him out in whatever way possible. Similarly, I adored Max for how protective he is towards Chloe and takes on so much responsibility. Chloe is adorable, and I had some spine-tingling moments when their mother interacts with her. This book was just perfect!

Overall, I loved “Small Town Monsters” and hope the author writes many more such Young adult horror novels.

Love On All Hallows Eve Review:

“Love On All Hallows Eve” is the perfect book to get you in the mood for Halloween. It is short yet atmospheric and will want you leaving for more.

Don’t let the number of pages fool you. Even though this book is less than 30 pages, it is entertaining on every page. The story moves quickly with many twists and turns, as the author shocks us with what Terra does on the eve of Halloween. While the night’s incident gets over in the first half of the story, I also enjoyed the second half that deals with the repercussions of what Terra does. You will not notice the time fly by once you start reading this short novella.

The author also writes the characters dynamically. I enjoyed Terra in the lead and the emotions she feels, considering what we know about her. More than Terra, I adored Rose, the psychic. When Cortez came into the picture, I thought the author was writing another story, but then realized how she seamlessly blends Cortez and Rose into Terra’s tale. I thought I was reading an homage to the classic Frankenstein tale, as the protagonist plays with life and tries to bring the characters back from the dead.

However, this is one of those tales where I wished the author had made it a bit longer and we had more details. I would love to read more background of Terra’s life and her connection with ‘Frankenstein.’ The author also writes Sam and Bobby interestingly as the antagonist, and one of the highlights was how Terra deals with them.

Overall, “Love On All Hallows Eve” is a great creepy story that will put you in the mood for Halloween.

    Burden Falls  Review:

“Burden Falls” was excellent. It has the perfect YA suspense novel with a touch of a gothic, supernatural murder mystery.

To begin with, I have to commend the author for writing the story so creatively. The author spins the tale in such a crafty manner that you don’t know what will happen. There are so many twists and turns where you cannot predict the story. Also, people who you would never think of being killed end up with shocking deaths one after the other. The author makes you think if a supernatural force causes the murders or if someone is behind them. Furthermore, I am not giving any spoilers, but the ending completely threw me off and shocked me. I love when stories come up and surprise me in the end, and this book delivers this flawlessly.

The author also wrote the characters nicely. I liked Ava in the lead and the various emotions she has to deal with when the murders occur. It’s not easy for her because the detectives also find her the prime suspect. There are some creepy characters like Hamish and Liam who make the story even eerier. However, I also liked characters like Ford, Dominic, and Freya. Each of them makes the story exciting with the way they respond to Ava. On a side note, I also enjoyed Dead Eyed Sadie’s background storyline and wondered how that connected with Ava. The author also adds some nice YA romance into the mix, although I will not spoil it by mentioning who Ava gets romantic with.

Overall, I loved reading “Burden Falls” and felt it was one of the best Young Adult Horror thrillers of this year.

The only thing for certain is the deaths were no accident.

Rayner High School once a prestigious school stands in ruins after such a terrible event.

A year later, a group of friends return to the abandoned school and their nightmare begins.

Something wants to get out and won’t take NO for an answer…

Ouija is Book 2 in a new series brought to you by Question Mark Horror. For fans of Point Horror, Christopher Pike & Nicholas Pine.

Check out Book 1 – Camp Death by Jim Ody

    About the Author:

Zoé O’Farrell grew up in Watford but left the town life to live by the sea down at the White Cliffs of Dover.
She spends her days working with numbers before escaping in the evening to the world of words and movies. Her go-to relaxation is watching a scary movie or reading a terrifying book!

She is a book blogger and tour organiser just to keep her extra busy. When she is not reading or writing, you can usually find her watching Watford FC or at a gig. Failing that she can be found rolling her eyes at her husband as he acts the same age as her spitfire of a Mini-Me whilst separating her two cats.

    Ouija is her debut novel.

    Ouija Review:

“Ouija” is the second book in the “Question Mark Horror” series, and I enjoyed it even more than the first book.

This book has classic teen horror all over it. A group of kids who accidentally unleash something dangerous when they play with an Ouija board? The plot hooked me in from the synopsis itself, and I could not put it down. The author did a fantastic job in creating and maintaining the horror. I was at the edge of my seat as soon as the planchette moved in the Ouija Board.

Moreover, the author maintains the horror and suspense in the characters’ lives even after that fateful night. After reading this book, I feel skeptical just stepping into an empty school hallway. Also, I thought many supporting characters in “Camp Death” made it confusing to follow at times in the previous book. However, in this book, we have a distinctive number of people that make the story gripping. The author also includes shocking deaths that you don’t expect, which make the tale thrilling.

Speaking of characters, the author wrote them all perfectly. I also appreciate how the author gave Equal time for all the characters. Each of them faces something terrifying, like Caley’s reaction when she sees Ruby, what Sophie witnesses in the bathroom, or when Ben sees the dark shape and gets premonitions. The romance crushes between the characters were also fun, like how Jon is protective towards Lara and Sophie and Lara’s feelings for Simon.

Overall, “Ouija” is a beautiful addition to the series, and I cannot wait to read more installments.

The place had a gruesome past that nobody wanted to talk about…

Camp Deathe is now a great place to spend the summer. Ritchie soon finds a group of outsiders like himself. Teenagers who ignore the organised activities, and bunk off in the old abandoned cabins deep in the woods. The cabins that have a history.

The campfire monster stories were just imaginations to scare them. Nobody expected them to come true. Then one of the teenagers disappears in the middle of the night.

Something is watching them. It hides in the woods and hunts at night.

Ritchie will have to uncover the secrets of the camp, and understand his own problems in order to survive.

Camp Death is Book 1 in a new series by Question Mark Horror. For fans of Point Horror, Christopher Pike & Nicholas Pine.

    Camp death Review:

Let me preface by saying that I used to love reading teen horror when I was growing up. Point Horror and Fear Street were my go-to books back in the 90s, and “Camp Death” made me nostalgic about my younger days.

The author did a great job in setting up the eerie atmosphere of the Camp. As soon as Ritchie enters the Camp, you get to meet the rest of the cast, and it was interesting to see how Ritchie interacted with them. The story got intense as soon as Ritchie enters the woods, referencing other famous horror movies like the Blair Witch Project. The author also creates a haunted setting where something supernatural lurks in the woods. You feel that there is always a tense moment throughout the tale where you wonder what will happen to Ritchie and his friends.

Moreover, I liked how the author mixed things up and didn’t focus only on the horror. We also see the characters participating in the rowing race or Jason’s conflicting relationship with his father. I liked Ritchie in the lead and thought the author wrote the characters nicely. He tried to get over his feelings for Kelly, and it was interesting to see how he reacts with Claire and forms a friendship with Jason. Moreover, the author ends the story in a shocking cliffhanger that I did not expect. The ending made the book even more memorable and made me look forward to reading the next book, “Ouija,” in the series.

Overall, “Camp Death” is a thrilling young adult horror novel that makes you feel like watching a classic camp horror movie, but with a twist.

Best-selling author Rick Riordan presents the sequel to Tehlor Kay Mejia’s critically acclaimed own-voices novel about science-obsessed Paola Santiago.

Six months after Paola Santiago confronted the legendary La Llorona, life is nothing like she’d expected it to be. She is barely speaking to her best friends, Dante and Emma, and what’s worse, her mom has a totally annoying boyfriend. Even with her chupacabra puppy, Bruto, around, Pao can’t escape the feeling that she’s all alone in the world.

Pao has no one to tell that she’s having nightmares again, this time set in a terrifying forest. Even more troubling? At their center is her estranged father, an enigma of a man she barely remembers. And when Dante’s abuela falls mysteriously ill, it seems that the dad Pao never knew just might be the key to healing the eccentric old woman.

Pao’s search for her father will send her far from home, where she will encounter new monsters and ghosts, a devastating betrayal, and finally, the forest of her nightmares. Will the truths her father has been hiding save the people Pao loves, or destroy them?

Once again Tehlor Kay Mejia draws on her Mexican heritage to tell a wild and wondrous story that combines creatures from folklore with modern-day challenges.

    About the Author:

Tehlor Kay Mejia is an Oregon native in love with the alpine meadows and evergreen forests of her home state, where she lives with her daughter. While I devoured the first book in one sitting, I loved this story more than “River of Tears.” The author makes sure to stay true to the theme of the first story yet, making it distinctive from it at the same time. I felt the story picked up full speed when Pao goes to see Señora Mata at the hospital. Hospitals tend to creep me out in general, and this book had scenes with creepy supernatural stuff taking place that gave me shivers. The story brilliantly continues as we have mysterious creatures like the Fantasma and beasts, a crazy road trip, and many other twists and turns.

Paola is again fantastic, and I feel she is one of my top favorite characters in the RRP series world. She goes through a lot in the story, and I could not turn my eyes away when she meets her father. Moreover, I was surprised by Paola’s friendship with Naomi in the tale, as it was not something I anticipated. The two of them form a very dynamic duo as they go on their adventure. Similarly, the author shocks us with incidents surrounding Dante, Emma, and even Pao’s mom. On a side note, I also liked the LGBTQ nod around Emma and that we got to know more about her in this book.

Overall, “Paola Santiago and the Forest of Nightmares” is an excellent continuation of the “Paola Santiago” series and exceeded my expectations. I wonder how the third book can top it off.

Tess Matheson only wants three things: time to practice her cello, for her sister to be happy, and for everyone else to leave her alone.

Instead, Tess finds herself working all summer at her boarding school library, shelving books and dealing with the intolerable patrons. The worst of them is Eliot Birch: snide, privileged, and constantly requesting forbidden grimoires. After a bargain with Eliot leads to the discovery of an ancient book in the library’s grimoire collection, the pair accidentally unleash a book-bound demon.

The demon will stop at nothing to stay free, manipulating ink to threaten those Tess loves and dismantling Eliot’s strange magic. Tess is constantly having terrible dreams of the devil and haunting memories of a boy who wears Eliot’s face. All she knows is to stay free, the demon needs her… and he’ll have her, dead or alive.

    The Devil Makes Three Review:

“The Devil Makes Three” is an exciting Young Adult fantasy of horror, excitement, and romance and was devilishly good.

Let me begin with the characters. I loved the two leads. Tess and Eliot are complete opposites, which is why they work so well together. Tess is more timid and emotional, while Eliot initially comes off a bit snobbish. I especially liked Eliot because of his special powers as well. Nevertheless, the two of them are electric together and were the highlight of the tale. I also enjoyed the side characters like Mathilde.

Moreover, I also loved the theme of the story. The author also spins the tale nicely, where she creates an eerie gothic atmosphere, yet with a touch of romance. Some moments are so mysterious, like when Eliot finds Tess’s body soaked with a black liquid or when Tess finds herself in a room and doesn’t remember how she got there. Furthermore, the story paces nicely, building up in each chapter. I could not put down the book when they both find the Book of Shadows. How do you go about fighting a devil that you have accidentally unleashed? The villain of the story is powerful and one which they cannot conquer easily. Hence, it was exciting to see how the leads attempt to fix the mess they create. On a side note, I loved that half the story takes place in the backdrop of a library.

Overall, I thought “The Devil Makes Three” was an exciting young adult thriller/horror with a touch of mystery and romance, and the author executed it wonderfully.

“An absolute master of modern horror. And a damn fine writer at that” – Guillermo del Toro

Alex Grand is a successful crime novelist until his latest book is condemned for appropriating the experience of victims of abuse. In a bid to rescue his reputation he ghostwrites a memoir of abuse on behalf of a survivor, Carl Batchelor. Carl’s account proves to be less than entirely reliable; someone is alive who shouldn’t be.

As Alex investigates the background of Carl’s accusations his grasp of the truth of the book and of his own involvement begins to crumble. When he has to testify in a court case brought about by Carl’s memoir, this may be one step too far for his insecure mind…

    About the Author:

Ramsey Campbell is a British writer considered by a number of critics to be one of the great masters of horror fiction. T. E. D. Klein has written that “Campbell reigns supreme in the field today,” while S. T. Joshi has said that “future generations will regard him as the leading horror writer of our generation, every bit the equal of Lovecraft or Blackwood.”.

    Somebody’s Voice Review:

“Somebody’s voice” is so twisted that it left me speechless. I feel it’s one of the best psychologically creepy novels I have read this year.

I have read quite a few of the author’s previous famous works, where he dabbles into the paranormal and supernatural. This book is not that, so you will be disappointed if you expect a gory horror novel. This book, however, is psychologically creepy and frightening and relates more to the horrors of what the human mind can perceive. However, this book is not for everyone. It has themes of child abuse, and I don’t think it would be everyone’s cup of tea.

The author does relate his classic style of writing, where he sets the pace in a slow-burn fashion. We get two storylines, one of Alex, who is ghostwriting a memoir for Carl, and Carla (Carl’s childhood), who talks about the horrors of her childhood. As the story progresses, you slowly start to see both the storyline merge and blur the entire cast of characters. I honestly loved the second half of the book because you don’t know what is happening or who to trust. Some highlights of the book were the catechism incident at the restaurant and when the police make an arrest. This book is probably one of the few where the plot completely engrossed me more than the characters (although there were characters like Randal who creeped me out).

Overall, I have to say that this book surpassed my expectations and made me appreciate the author on a grander level. “Somebody’s Voice” is one of those stories people will love or despise, and I loved reading it.
