Taylor has room for exactly two things in her life: improving her performance as a college basketball player and maintaining the grades. She needs to stay on the team and someday play in the WNBA. But when she meets the beautiful and confident Melony, Taylor’s whole way of life is called into question. RAINBOW is a coming-of-age queer love story with a Love Jones kind of vibe. It’s the first of many queer black novellas by the author Verde Arzu.

    About the Author:

Verde Arzu is a passionate, middle school special education teacher. She graduated from Fisk University, a historically black college and university (HBCU) located in Nashville, TN. There she earned a B.A in History.

Her love for teaching pushed her to go on to graduate school where she earned a Master of Science in Special Education from National University. Verde is not only a teacher but an advocate working to ensure equity for students of color, especially those with learning disabilities.

Verde is excitedly working toward completing a post-baccalaureate certificate in writing from UC Berkeley Extension. Upon completion of the program, she plans to continue to publish novellas, short love stories, centered on realistic lesbian and queer relationships.

Verde recalls writing her first piece of fiction as a kid on the front stoop of her two-flat home on the south side of Chicago. She traces her passion for writing stories about African American queer characters from her desire to see more characters’ voices she can relate to.

A native Chicagoan, she currently resides in Northern California with her beautiful wife and two furry, four-legged children, Bob and Marley. She enjoys reading books written by African Americans–with her favorite genre being romance. She is a die heart Chicago sports fan. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, basketball, biking, binge-watching her favorite TV shows, and of course, cuddling up with a good book!

    Rainbow  Review:

Rainbow is a short and sweet story about accepting yourself and finding love, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The highlight of the story is in the characters. Taylor is the star of the show. I loved her from the first page and could relate to whatever she went through. It is always a challenge to accept yourself and come out when you are part of a group and on the limelight. The author writes the emotions of the characters very well that you can connect to. Melony is also interesting and I felt for her too. It is not easy being in the receiving end, and I thought the characters were portrayed realistically. Moreover, Taylor and Melony are so good together. I loved the way they meet up for movie dates and get to know each other.

However, I really wished the story was bigger and detailed. I loved reading the story but felt it just went by so quickly. It would have been nice to add more details like how everyone in the team reacted to Taylor. Also, maybe I missed it, but I would have liked to see Taylor’s family reaction to her coming out. Also, I really liked Reggie as a character, even if she appeared for only one or two scenes. It would have been nice to see her be more prominent in the story.

Other than that, this was a beautiful short love story that is worth reading.

Starting over is more about who you’re with than where you live...

Julia del Mar Ortiz is not having the best year to start with.

She moved to Dallas with her boyfriend. But the guy ended up ditching her and ran back to New York after only a few weeks. Left alone with a massive apartment by NYC standards anyway,  Julia is struggling though that’s not all that bad. Running the charitable foundation of one of the most iconic high fashion department stores is her serious #1  lifegoal.

It’s more than enough to make her want to stick it out down South.

The only monkey wrench in Julia’s plans is the blue-eyed, smart-mouthed consultant the store hired. Fellow New Yorker Rocco Quinn’s first order of business is putting Julia’s job on the chopping block.

When Julia is tasked with making sure Rocco sees how valuable the programs she runs are, she’s caught between a rock and a very hard set of abs. Because Rocco Quinn is almost impossible to hate—and even harder to resist.

    About the Author:

Adriana was born and raised in the Caribbean, but for the last fifteen years has let her job take her all over the world. She loves writing stories about people who look and sound like her people, getting unapologetic happy endings.

When she’s not dreaming up love stories, planning logistically complex vacations with her family or hunting for discount Broadway tickets, she’s a trauma therapist in New York City, working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Adriana’s Dreamers series has received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist. She has been featured in The TODAY Show on NBC, Entertainment Weekly, NPR, Library Journal and The Washington Post. Her debut, American Dreamer, was selected as one of Booklist’s ‘Best Romance Debuts of 2019’. Her third novel, American Love Story, was one of the winners in the first annual Ripped Bodice Award for Excellence in Romantic Fiction. Adriana is an outspoken advocate for diversity in romance. She has written for Remezcla and Bustle about Own Voices in the genre. She’s one of the co-creators of the Queer Romance PoC Collective. Represented by Taylor Haggerty at Root Literary.

    Here to Stay Review:

“Here to Stay” is a very nice romantic comedy with lively, diverse characters that will make you smile.

The highlight of the story are the characters. Julia is hilarious! She says the goofiest things that made me laugh out loud. Rocco is also adorable as the male lead. In fact, I thought Rocco’s story-line had more meaning than Julia’s due to his family problems. Moreover, I loved Julia and Rocco together. They complement each other so nicely. There are so many scenes which were just so cute and romantic. One of my favorite scenes was when Rocco shows up for Thanksgiving and meet’s Julia’s family.

Even the supporting characters like Jose and Alba were so sweet. I love how they lighten the mood with their advice to Julia. Similarly, Muffy and Mitzy are quirky and eccentric wanted them to be prominent like the others. On a side note, I also liked the side story of Vicki and her escapades.

Moreover, the author writes the story in such a charming way. Even though there are no villains as such, the story never appears boring. The characters feel real and face challenges like any average person. The romance is fun and sweet, and emotional too. Also, there are some very explicit scenes and boy are they hot! The author makes you laugh and cry one moment, and steams up the pages the next.

However, what I felt could be improved was if there was a better closure given on Rocco’s family problems. The ending felt a bit open ended and left me hanging. But apart from that, this was delightful. Overall, this book was very entertaining, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a nice rom-com.

    Universe of Two Review

This is one of the best books I read this year!

Where do I even begin? Do I talk about the beautiful love story between Brenda and Charlie? Or the nuances of guilt Charlie faces when he realizes the consequences of his work? How about the various physics references that indulged my geeky side? There are so many reasons why I loved this book in so many levels.

I love this author and HAVE to read his previous books. The way he details the story-line makes you feel like you are right next to the characters. Moreover, I loved how he beautifully switches the tone between the two perspectives. Brenda is sassy and fun, and her story-line feels like you are reading a beautiful romance novel. Whereas, Charlie is an introverted genius, and if you read only his story-line, it would sound just like a war thriller. I just loved the contrast between the two, and how they blended beautifully towards the end. Moreover, the author also connects the character events to the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in a gripping manner.

I will not talk about Brenda and Charlie because it is obvious that I love them both. From their romantic first date at the movies, to the way they get married, watching these two was just mesmerizing. However, I have to mention my love for Lizzie and Brenda’s mother. These two appear at times in the story, but they just light up the pages. Lizzie is hilarious and made me laugh out loud with her push-ups. Similarly, I hated Mather and Beasley with a passion. I can go on, but I will stop now.

Overall, this book is the epitome of a historical romance. I loved this story, and awaiting the movie adaptation once it comes out.

Olivia Hamilton can do no wrong. Or at least that’s what the community of Fox River, North Carolina thinks of the odd but sweet young lady. She’s hiding a past she’d rather forget, engaged to the town’s most eligible bachelor, and longing for someone to see past the mask she wears. Olivia wants to find herself, forgive herself, and fall in love with someone who sees and embraces her flaws.

Denver MacKenna grew up the fiddle-playing prodigy of not only his hometown of Fox River but of North Carolina and the surrounding states. He plays obsessively and tours as often as possible, escaping a life of loneliness at home. Until he meets a beautiful siren who calls to him and has him making plans to settle down. Denver knows it’s wrong to covet the elusive Olivia, but finds himself inexplicably drawn to the brief glimpses she gives him of her true self.

    About the Author:

Jess B. Moore is a writer of love stories. When she’s not writing, she’s busy mothering her accomplished and headstrong children, reading obscene numbers of books, and knitting scarves she’ll likely never finish.

Jess lives in small town North Carolina with her bluegrass obsessed family. She takes too many pictures of her cats, thinking the Internet loves them as much as she does. She is a firm believer of swapping stories over coffee or wine, and that there should always be dark chocolate involved.

The Fox River Romance novels combine her interests in family, music, and small towns into thoughtful tales of growing up and falling in love. Readers can read these as stand-alone, or as a series starting with The Guilt of a Sparrow.

The Heart of a Peach  Review:

This was such a breezy romance with two wonderful characters that just put a smile on my face.

What really stands out in the novel is the author’s beautiful manner of writing it. The story is very simple with two people meeting and falling in love. There are a few negative characters, but they are scarce in the story-line. Moreover, there is no unnecessary drama, twists or turns, or complications. Yet, I was moved by the story-line just to see the two characters bring out the best of each other. Similarly, the author has a wonderful talent for making you love the characters from the first chapter.

Denver and Olivia are adorable together. It was nice seeing Olivia come out of her shell after interacting with Denver. However, more than the couple, I loved Olivia’s relationship with her mother. It was beautiful to see how the mother supported her daughter and stood by her. Hence, this was the highlight of the story for me. Also, the supporting characters like Cotton, Penny, Maggie etc. are also very cute and compliment the leads.

However, I was surprised that Matthew did not pursue going after Olivia as I thought his ego would be bruised. Also, Matthew’s mother is a nasty piece of work, and I thought she would have made a bigger appearance to bring additional drama. On a side note, I felt like some of the language used did not really fit with the characters or timeline. For example, Denver uses a few expletives in one chapter, and Olivia uses outdated terms like “Heavens to Betsy” in another.

Apart from that, I really enjoyed reading this novel. Overall, “The Heart of a Peach” is a short, simple, yet very sweet romance novel.

On the evening of May eighteenth, a young woman named Cass walks alone into the small village of Chimney Rock, North Carolina, intending to stay for exactly one year. She is in search of somewhere with peace, a place where she can safely picture herself and escape, shielding herself from recollections of the past.

Cass soon meets two precocious children, their mother, a caring and generous business owner, and the neighboring town’s chief of police. Moreover, family and loss make up many of their stories, and while these people and others attempt to get to know and help Cass, the history and troubled memories of what led her to this place begin to gradually unfold. Hence, as the date of her planned departure approaches, the potential for love and a path to healing become clearer. So, Cass and those around her must decide how forcefully they are willing to hold on: to the past, to the pain, and to the person.

This novel examines the true test of strength in the deepest depths of sorrow and reminds us of the overwhelming power of comforting influences in all of our lives, as our human souls struggle, against all odds, to survive.

    About the Author:

Jordan R. Samuel is a former public school teacher and administrator who enjoys her current work as an Assistant Professor of Education. She spends her days with her husband, John, and her three children as she teaches, studies and writes. Moreover, she enjoys travelling immensely, and penned many parts of this particular story while relaxing in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

On the Eighteenth of May Review:

Reading this book is like basking on sunlight after the clouds depart. It was beautiful, heart-warming and left me speechless. I loved reading it.

Even though it is a relatively simple story, the beauty lies in the way the author narrates it. The story progresses like fine wine. The author describes every emotion that the characters go through in such a poignant manner. It’s a beautiful tale that shows the courage it takes to face your fears instead of running away from them.

You fall in love with the Lucas and Cass from page one. Both of them are vibrant and enchanting in their own manner. I became so engrossed with the characters that I was at the edge of my seat towards the climax. The plot progresses beautifully, as we slowly start to see snippets of Cass’s past, and the reason why she doesn’t stick to one place. There are a few moments in the story which are pretty violent. But otherwise, everyone in Chimney Rock is so friendly and adorable that makes you want to go and live in such a town. I loved Ella and just wanted to hug her through the pages.

Moreover, I also loved some passages that Lucas describes about his Cherokee heritage, like the symbolism of water. In fact, there are so many priceless moments that I loved, like how Cass talks about umbrellas and rain, and how she reflects on the shattered vase. The way the author adds these moments to the story makes it so memorable.

Overall, “On the Eighteenth of May” is a beautiful love story that I truly loved reading.

He’s devilishly handsome, appears to be a really nice fella, and is good in a crisis. She feels that he is out to steal her dream job. That she’s terribly attracted to him doesn’t help.

She gradually comes to realize that something has got to give, but not her heart. .

Cynthia Smart’s Midwife Crisis by Liz Davies Review:

This book is just adorable and made me smile. It’s the perfect rom-com without any unnecessary drama.

The highlight of the story is the characters. Cynthia is fun as the main character who gets pregnant unexpectedly. At times, she got on my nerves, because I didn’t like the way she kept running away from Max. Even though I could understand her situation, it was a bit frustrating seeing her unable to trust anyone. However, she is also hilarious and cranky, and it was fun to see how she coped with the pregnancy. I loved Max! He is just the perfect male character. At times, I felt he was too perfect for words as he didn’t have any flaws. But I loved his relation with Cynthia, and their time together.

Even the supporting characters are so lovely. I loved Cynthia’s mother Maggie. They both have a beautiful mother-daughter relationship where they talk to each other like friends. Maggie is also very quirky and speaks her mind openly, which was funny at times. Sally is another adorable character who I wished was more involved in the story.

The author writes the tale in such a simple and engaging manner. Even though the story is nothing new, it feels fresh and puts a smile on your face. Also, even though Cynthia and Max are in their 40s, the author has written their characters with a touch of innocence and immaturity. Hence a person of any age group can relate to them. The pregnancy also ends in a very interesting manner that makes this book memorable.

Overall, “Cynthia Smart’s Midwife Crisis” is a breezy romantic comedy and I enjoyed it.

The Hero of Hope Springs Review:

I have not read the previous books in the series, but I had no trouble following “The Hero of Hope Springs”. I didn’t even notice the time fly as I was reading this story.

The author writes her characters so well! I was completely invested in Sammy and Ryder. Ryder is the perfect male character portrayed for this cowboy romance. Good looks and a good heart. He knows what he wants and he goes after it. He always wants to protect those around him, which make you like him from the first page. In fact, he is the stable character in the story who you can clearly predict how he would react in an upcoming situation.

However, Sammy was more interesting as she is the volatile one in the relationship. She goes through so many emotions over the story, and you really don’t know how she is going to react. Both of them share an amazing chemistry. But Sammy does things that you don’t expect, that suddenly twist the story. Ryder and Sammy sizzle in the pages with their romance. The author sure knows how to steam the pages without making it sound trashy. The romance was classy, hot and written very well.

A few scenes felt repetitious though. The characters reflect on their tragic past frequently, which felt repetitious. Also, I felt the author rushed the story in certain scenes. I am not giving spoilers, but there are a lot of things that happen in the second half, which felt rushed. I would have enjoyed the story had the author added further details on some scenes.

But on the whole, this was such a nice romance book to read, and I might pick up the first few to see how it started.

Wedding Bells in Merriment Bay Review:

Emily Harvale is becoming one of my favorite authors. I recently read “A Wedding at Wynter House” and enjoyed it. “Wedding Bells in Merriment Bay” turned out to be entertaining as well! The author has a wonderful way of writing feel good romance that just puts a smile on your face. The highlight of the stories are the characters and their relationships.

I loved the two main characters, Cat and Amias. They are fun, feisty and adorable together. Even though I have not read the previous books in this series, I fell in love with these two. Kyra is a fireball. I can’t believe she is only 18 because she is so mature for her age. I just loved how straight forward and mature she is. She knows what she wants and doesn’t beat around the bush. It was fun to see her confront Cat and Amias about their relationship and how to take it forward. Moreover, I really liked her relation with Francis and how she tries to figure him out.

Mary is a very interesting character as well, but not a memorable as Olivia. I really liked her conversations with Daniel, but felt she was not prominent in the story. I would have liked if we had seen more of her. Also, now that I know the characters from the Wyntersleap series, I loved their appearances. It was so nice to see Rafe, Neva, Jo and Olivia make an appearance. I think Olivia is one of my favorite characters in the whole series.

Overall, “Wedding Bells in Merriment Bay” is like tasting cotton candy when you go to the Fair. It just melts all your trouble away and makes you feel good.

It’s springtime at The Vineyard in Alsace, a new season and a new beginning

After being abandoned by her partner when she falls pregnant, Lottie Schell goes home to live on The Vineyard in Alsace, where she has started a new relationship with the estate’s winemaker, Thierry. Now about to give birth, Lottie’s determined to raise her child and to provide for them both on her own without having to depend on anyone else.

Thierry Bernard is still dealing with his grief and guilt following the death of his wife two years earlier, for which he blames himself. When he meets Lottie, the instant attraction he feels towards her gives him hope that he can move on from the tragedy of his past, as long as he can tell Lottie the truth of what happened.

When circumstances force Lottie and Thierry closer together, they both find it hard to compromise – she’s proudly independent and he’s fiercely protective – and they’re both wary about trusting someone new with their heart.

Can Lottie and Thierry take a chance on each other, move on from their pasts and start over?

Escape to The Vineyard in Alsace once again with this romantic read set in the heart of Alsace’s wine country.

Starting Over at the Vineyard in Alsace Review:

I love heart-warming, emotional stories, and this book did not disappoint.

I really liked the author’s style of writing. The story is simple yet so beautiful. We all build walls around us once we have been heartbroken. Naturally, it takes time to trust people again to bring those walls down. The author beautifully highlights how Thierry and Lottie face issues from their past to trust each other. Moreover, the author writes the dialogues in such a way that connected with me. I could completely relate to what these characters were going through. Also, even though I have not read the previous book, I could still pick up on what happened.

Thierry was the highlight in this tale. I just loved everything about him. He is the perfect gentleman. Moreover, he know he has emotional burdens that he must get past. He tries his best to get better and tries to make things better for those around him. I loved the supporting characters too like Fran, Didier, Chlöe and Sylvie.

However, I found it difficult to root for Lottie. She seemed so defensive and hostile towards everyone, especially Thierry. Even though Thierry fights with secrets from his past, at least he tried to overcome it. He gave up pride and changed himself to win Lottie back. But Lottie kept pushing him aside and finding faults in everything he did. Even though I understand why she reacts that way, I wish she was empathetic towards Thierry and didn’t think only of herself.

Apart from that, this was a very nice, emotional story. I will definitely pick up Book 1 to see how the series started with Fran. Overall, a very nice story!

Not everyone at Wynter House is thrilled about this wedding.

Secrets have been revealed and new relationships begun. Now it’s time to look to the future. Neva and Rafe are in love and so are Adam and Hazel. Jo’s love life leaves a lot to be desired, although Gavin could remedy that.

But Rafe’s grandmother, Olivia still hopes that something will tear Rafe and Neva apart. Hazel’s new assignment means nursing someone back to health … and there’s history between them. And Jo’s receiving texts from her ex-fiancé.

Then Rafe’s first wife, Pippa – the woman who broke his heart, unexpectedly arrives. And she’s even more beautiful and irresistible than Rafe remembers.

When everyone is looking to the future, will the past prove to be too strong?

There will be a wedding at Wynter House … but who will be the bride and groom?

A Wedding at Wynter House Review:

This is one of those feel-good romantic comedies that just warms your heart and puts a smile on your face. I have not read the previous books in the series, yet I had no trouble getting into the story. True, there are a few references to the previous books that I couldn’t understand. But this made me want to pick them up and find out how it all started.

The characters are so charming that you immediately like them from the get go. The author blends the emotions well with the story-lines. On one hand, I was invested in the drama between Rafe and Neva and Pippa. On the other hand, I was laughing out loud with Jo’s antics, and her meetup with Ed. Jo and Neva also share a very nice friendship. Moreover, I loved Olivia and thought she was fantastic. I also loved Hazel and Adam and wanted to read more about them. On a side note, I also liked the side plot of the corpse buried under Devon Villa. The story was just entertaining throughout.

However, I would have loved if the story was longer. The plot is very fast at times, where if you miss a line, you a miss a lot! It would have been so interesting if Olivia and Pippa were more prominent in the story. Moreover, since I have not caught up on the series, I would have loved this book even more had I read the previous books.

Overall, “A Wedding at Wynter House” is sweet and charming and made me a fan of the series. I’m going to start reading all the previous books to catch up on what happened.
