Set in the Shock Pepper realm, this fantasy, sci-fi epic spans multiple storylines, mind-bending twists & gray characters. The first part of this series sets the base for how the storylines intertwine & clash, spreading across time and universes.

Sam is jobless & leads a sad life. His friend Adrian introduces him to a witch, who gives a magic potion that can put him to sleep for ten years. Sam drinks it to escape the tough times. He wakes up in a hospital three months later with a pregnant woman by his side; she claims to be his wife and that he had a head injury that makes him hallucinate about the witch. What happens to Sam next?

Shock Pepper is an edge-of-the-seat thriller with action and adventure from the word go. Things are not what they seem in this story filled with suspense and mystery. Prepare to have your mind blown as you enter the murky realm of Shock Pepper.

     Author Bio:

I love to write mind bending dark fantasy and sci-epic stories.

And I started envisioning Shock Pepper many years ago and glad to see it published.

I see myself as a storyteller, more than a writer.

    Shock Pepper: Part 1 Review:

The first installment of Shock Pepper delivers an exhilarating reading experience that feels like a soap opera in book form. With multiple interwoven storylines, each chapter ends on a cliffhanger, making it nearly impossible to put down. The storytelling is fast-paced, dynamic, and filled with twists that keep the reader engaged.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is its concept of time travel. The novel raises fascinating questions about how the various timelines will eventually merge and what deeper connections lie beneath the surface. The mystery of the witch adds another layer of suspense, making it one of the most compelling elements of the story.

Among the numerous subplots, my favorite was the one featuring Sam, Adrian, and Brianna. Their emotionally engaging and well-developed storyline kept me invested in their journey. Similarly, Jeff’s arc, particularly his conflict with the sinister Randy, was another standout. I felt deeply for Jeff and rooted for him in his struggle.

Moreover, Priya’s quest to find Kavitha was equally captivating, though I found Gowda somewhat unsettling. While her journey was intriguing, his presence made certain moments uncomfortable.

On the other hand, Chad and Greg’s protest storyline didn’t thrill me as much as the others. Similarly, while still enjoyable, George and Jordan’s plot lacked the same intensity level compared to other narratives in the book.

Despite these minor preferences, Shock Pepper excels in blending genres seamlessly. It offers a unique mix of romance, drama, thrills, sci-fi, and even horror, ensuring there’s something for everyone. With its short but gripping chapters, this book is an addictive read, and I can’t wait for Part 2 to see how everything unfolds!

A hidden people not so hidden anymore.

The Hidden Realm of Angolin has existed in peaceful isolation for centuries, but that’s about to change. The enemy across the Abyss has discovered them and is intent on conquest. Lieutenant Dharmen Tate has a great love for his homeland and a greater understanding of its position in the world. When he discovers a plot by fellow officers to join the enemy and overthrow Angolin, he and his colleagues spring into action to defend the Hidden Realm from its foes―those without, and those within. The ensuing struggle magnifies Angolin’s vulnerability and exposes the collusion of a growing body of its citizens, signifying an uncertain and bloody future. For readers who enjoy Star Bloodline by Claudia Gray, Embassytown by China Mieville, and Catalyst of Sorrows by Margaret Wander Bonnano.

    About the Author:

    C. E. Taylor’s fascination for science fiction began early. As a nerdy, curious kid, he created his own worlds and realities, and followed sci-fi adventures that captivated him. Instead of playing with toys, he created cities and later, fictional societies and cultures on paper. Later in life, his interest in human culture, and in urbanism led him to pursue degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Urban Planning, while his passion for other worlds, places and times inspired him to write the first book of the Angolin trilogy.

By day he works for city government. His evenings and weekends are spent honing his story of a hidden society discovered by a dangerous enemy. Whether creating storylines, histories, world-building, etc. for Angolin, or dealing with the inescapable real world, he finds a form of Anthropology in everything he experiences in real life, and in everything he reads, as even fiction follows the human condition.

    Angolin Review:

From the very outset, the author skillfully establishes the backdrop for an intricate and high-stakes military endeavor, rife with political intricacies, strategic maneuvers, and the ever-present specter of internal betrayal.Dharmen emerges as a compelling protagonist as the series progresses, guiding readers through the twists and turns of the narrative. The author deftly explores the moral quandaries confronting the characters and the delicate equilibrium of power within this elaborate tapestry of alliances and betrayals.“Angolin” unquestionably appeals to aficionados of timeless space opera sagas. It lays a solid foundation for what promises to be an exceptional science fiction series!

Also on the trail is cynical Scouse detective Darren Swift. In his first murder case, he must confront his own lack of faith as a series of horrific crimes drag the city of two cathedrals to the gates of hell.

    Reprobation Review:

This book offers a lot to appreciate. It introduced me to eschatology, Calvinism, and various theological ideals I hadn’t been familiar with before. The author skillfully weaves in themes of immortality, gene mutation, and other philosophical topics that really make you contemplate the higher purpose of life and the afterlife, which was the standout aspect of the story. Moreover, I enjoyed the integration of these elements into a crime fiction thriller, with both Helen and Mikko investigating from their perspective while Detectives Swift and Quinn are officially on the case, and I thought the author narrated it well from various perspectives.

Personally, I particularly enjoyed how the author portrayed Helen’s conflicting feelings and her transformation once she met Mikko. Memorable moments include their interactions on the airplane and when Margaret reprimands Helen, as I was curious to see how Helen would respond. The author also adds suspenseful moments to the thriller aspect, such as Arran and Hayley noticing something strange in the church or the incident with the man and his laptop. The story is different, polished, and sophisticated, making you feel like you are reading something profound.

However, the climax was a bit of a downside. While it was thrilling, it felt somewhat disconnected from the events leading up to it in terms of the responsible party.

Apart from that, I found “Reprobation” to be an enjoyable read and a solid start to the series. I cannot wait to revisit Helen in the next book and find out what is in store for her.

She failed to save her brother and her best friend from destructive forces. Could she topple the most sinister villain of all time?

2037 was a really bad year.

Lexi Brennan’s best friend loses her life in a plane crash. Two weeks later, an intergalactic crisis threatened the fate of humanity. Authorities responded by launching a genocide.

Lexi opposed this vicious attack. Then again, what could she do? An eccentric flight attendant drawn to glamorous trysts, she felt powerless to incite change.

Until tragedy struck close to home. Suddenly, Lexi was forced to acknowledge the widespread atrocities. She uncovered a network of lies along with an opportunity to restore basic human rights. To protect others, Lexi would have to launch a movement that could destroy everything important to her, including her promising new romance.

    About the Author:

Lisa Wilkes has spent 13 years as a flight attendant, jetting across the globe and collecting inspiration for her writings. Her debut novel, Flight Path, is a fast-paced romance laced with serendipitous encounters. This book follows a daydreaming stewardess as she learns to navigate a new terrain: unconditional love.

In her second novel, Mid-Flight, Lisa transports readers to the year 2038. A flight attendant begins to unravel after her best friend is killed in a plane crash. In the throes of unspeakable grief, she uncovers a political ploy to decimate one-fifth of the population. To combat this sinister plan, she must risk everything. Including her breathtaking new romance.

Lisa’s writing is provocative and timely, with a focus on societal issues and powerful internal conflict. Flight Path’s readers will appreciate Mid-Flight’s emphasis on hope and redemption, while Lisa’s work will draw newcomers to the power of her storytelling.

I really enjoyed the timeline of the story. It’s set in the near future, and as a reader, you can’t help but wonder if our world will actually become like that. The story starts off with a bang as Lexi and Jason witness a meteor incident that changes everything. I loved the science fiction elements the author added to the tale, like ContaCan, Autoscan, and PersonableSpin. I particularly loved the scene where Lexi reconnects with Jorge and thought it was memorable. These world-building elements left me in awe and made me consider the possibility of our future heading in that direction.

Another aspect I liked was how the author developed Lexi’s character. On the one hand, she reflects on the injustices in society, and on the other hand, she tries to connect with her brother Colin, who faces mental health issues. Then Jason enters her life, and their romantic journey together unfolds. The chemistry between Lexi and Jason was great, and they shared some sweet moments, like playing darts or getting tattoos. Even the bond between Lexi and Colin over their shared concern for justice added depth to the story. The supporting characters, such as Katie, Tamika, and Reggie, added value to the narrative.

If I had one criticism, it would be that I felt the climax, particularly Lexi’s actions in seeking justice, felt rushed. The author dedicated more time to exploring Lexi’s relationships with Colin and Jason (which I enjoyed). Still, it would have been nice to have more details about her challenges during her training and fight for what is right.

Apart from that, I enjoyed reading Mid-Flight and found it refreshing. I hope the author writes a sequel to revisit these characters, as I would love to know more about Colin.

In the distant future, a genetic plague has separated humanity in two –Subterraneans who live in underground burrows to protect their health, and strong surface-dwelling Omniterraneans.

That is until she’s offered the chance of a lifetime to study the population’s broken genetic code, fix the divide and reunite the world once again.

But when a new virus turns fatal for the Omnits, Zuzan must find a cure or humanity won’t simply remain separate, it will become extinct.

    Burrowed Review:

“Burrowed” is a gripping science fiction dystopian novel with promising characters surrounding a rich world, and I enjoyed reading it.The story’s highlight is Zuzan, her journey, and her connections with the rest of the cast. Zuzan is a solid and empathetic character, and you see various layers to her as she helps the children get better and figure out her place in life. A lot of the supporting characters also make the plot strong. For instance, I enjoyed the temperamental feelings that Zuzan faces with Crick, Griffith, and Nukleo (I particularly enjoyed Griffith). Similarly, even Maddelyn was interesting, as she appears sporadically but triggers some of the incidents in the tale with her behavior. Moreover, the author also adds a touch of romance where I warmed up to Zuzan and Ringol. The two of them don’t get off to the best start, and I was intrigued with how the author progressed their relationship, especially towards the climax. Also, I found myself intrigued with the world-building as we see Subterraneans and the Omniterraneans and the Omnit Rebellion that takes place. Some scenes shocked me, like the horrors she faces at Woynauld Military Academy. Other memorable scenes were Zuzan’s initiation speech and Optotech Hahn examining and changing her life. The author adds some nice twists that you don’t expect that shock and betray Zuzan too. However, the only downside to the story is that the pacing staggers in the second half. The first half is a whirlwind as we see Zuzan facing unspeakable challenges. But, the excitement in the second half comes down for a while and again picks up. While I enjoyed the medical aspects in the second half, I would have also liked some more danger and excitement.Overall, “Burrowed” is a gripping dystopian novel worth checking out.

2121, the world in which the populations of the five continents evolve has become chaotic and unlivable.  Already, G20 countries leaders are in condemnation for genocide. New Vision established a new world order in 2080 and masters time travel since 2105.

Recruitment of members of New Vision therefore takes place recruited across continents and eras to return to the past. And annihilate Six distinct events in the history of humanity and ensure that Seven parallel worlds, six alternate realities are created.

    New vision 7 Parallels Review:

Imagine a World where you changed the events, so there is no racism, religion, and authority, and people live in peace and tolerance. I enjoyed how creative this book is for the science fiction genre. The author somehow takes the significant events of the world that shaped the last few centuries and conjures a ‘what-if’ scenario of altered reality and time travel. The story made it feel out of the box, unlike anything I had read earlier. It was fun to witness prominent figures from the past and present come together to make the world good again. For instance, I never thought I would read about Stephen Hawking, Abe Lincoln, and Albert Einstein coming together to stop a catastrophic event from taking place, and all this made the plot engaging.

Moreover, this is a story that is surprisingly very plot-centric. The author has spent a lot of time researching and bringing such a large cast of characters to the pages; it sometimes feels larger than life. For example, the author details the test subjects and the specific events to target, and the group holding regular seminars and meetings with progress with such information, you feel as though the events have transpired and you are reading a detailed timeline of what happened.

Perhaps the only downside is that since there are no critical characters, I found it odd that I couldn’t root emotionally or gravitate toward any of them.

However, the story is grand and wonderful, and I applaud the author for executing it wonderfully. Overall, “New Visions: 7 Parallels by Jessica Lorenzi Conti is an enjoyable, futuristic time travel experience that will make you ponder and wonder.

The Stars in Their Eyes Review:

“The Stars in Their Eyes” surprisingly turned out to be much better than I expected, and the story immersed me completely!

The highlight of the story was the relationship between Calay and Jacob. I loved the camaraderie that these two shared. Jacob suddenly appears out of the blue in Calay’s life as she embarks on her mission to find Tess. You don’t know his true intentions, but Jacob surprised me and turned out to be my favorite character, even more than Calay. Similarly, Calay is also lovely in the lead, as she learns a lot about her history and has to endure secrets, betrayal, abduction, romance, action, and thrills, to name a few.

Moreover, I enjoyed how the author constructed the world. It’s like “War of the Worlds” meets “Mad Max,” and I loved the concept of aliens, planets traveling, hybrids, etc. The author writes the story so beautifully that it does not overwhelm me with the events that transpire. I was delighted reading this book as a standalone. Yet, when you finish this book, you want it to be the beginning of a series because it is terrific. Some of my favorite moments were when Calay meets Jacob or what she discovers in the restricted access room. Even Max was adorable, and Guy was devious in the negative role.

Perhaps the only improvement I would have liked to see is if we got more history on Smith and Adam. I felt these two had a lot of potential to add more to the plot but have a minimal presence, and you quickly forget about them.

Apart from that, I loved “The Stars in Their Eyes,” and I hope the author turns it into a series, as I would love to revisit these characters.

When Lily loses her job, she also loses the last thing that kept her from heading to Southend-on-Sea, in search of her estranged sister, whom she suspects has joined a dangerous new cult.

The Glow are so named for their bioluminescent plastic island, which floats in the North Sea. In a near future rife with plastic pollution, they have no shortage of material to keep their island growing. It’s rumored that the inhabitants draw power from an asteroid that once landed there-but anyone who has ever gone in search of answers has disappeared.

Will Lily make it to the island and find her sister? If so, will she make it back out alive?

    About the Author:

Leo X. Robertson grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, met his husband in Gijon, Spain, and eventually moved to Stavanger, Norway, where he works as a process engineer, writes fiction, and makes short films with the Stavanger Filmmakers Club. An author of unclassifiable fiction that tends towards the dark and speculative, he has short stories published by Helios Quarterly, Flame Tree Publishing, and Pulp Literature, as well as novellas published by Unnerving and Nihilism Revised. On his podcast, Losing the Plot, in association with Aphotic Realm magazine, he interviews other authors about anything and everything (hence the show’s title.)

He appears to be at work on numerous novels, short stories, and short film scripts. Also, he loves his sister dearly and, if necessary, would easily take a boat out to a plastic island and feign interest in joining a cult for her.

    The Glow Review:

“The Glow” is a very creative, science-fiction horror that I can easily see in a movie/TV series format, and it was an exciting read.

If you are a reluctant reader but love a good fantasy, science-fiction horror, then you must pick up this book. While the story is short, it is powerful. A LOT happens in each chapter as our main character Lily goes on a mission to see her sister Joanna. I liked Lily in the lead and thought she was intelligent and courageous to undergo the task, knowing the challenges she would face.

The author also builds the world nicely, and I thought the concept of Glow Island was genius. We see how detailed the author describes the Island Lily enters the Island and meets Summer, and goes on the tour. Some disturbing scenes make the book memorable on what Lily experiences while she is there. Moreover, the plot is swift, leading to an exciting climax that I immensely enjoyed. The story’s entire premise was gripping and had my interest glued to it. There are also character moments, like the conversation between Lily and Joanna, that give depth to the characters.

Perhaps the only reason why this was four stars was that everything happens so quickly. I would have loved to know more about Patricia, Summer, Melodie, and their backstories. Also, while we got details about the Island, there were still some unexplained questions. I would love this book to be set as a prequel for a new series and revisit these characters, especially Patricia and Gabriel.

Overall, “The Glow” is a fun, exciting read worth picking up, and you can quickly finish it in one reading.

A million thoughts, but only one right thing to do.

Eighteen-year-old Serenity Ashdown has a brilliant mind: she counts, calculates, and analyzes everything, all the time. Awkward. When her father suddenly disappears, Serenity follows his trail to a parallel dimension. The feds on the other side claim to want to help her go home, if she helps them reconstruct the right codes for the portal between worlds. But it’s soon clear they want something more: a gateway for invasion, because this version of Earth is dying.

When Serenity learns that her alter-ego was killed in battle, she assumes “the other Serenity’s” identity and uses her unique abilities to lead the resistance in a mortal fight against the tyrannical super-government that is poised to invade her universe. Serenity has no idea how to be someone she’s not, but she has to try—or she may not have a home to return to.

    A Measure Of Serenity Review:

“A Measure of Serenity” is a gripping, young adult science fiction novel that glued me to the main character and the storyline, and I could not put it down.

I just finished reading this book, and it is so good! Let me start with Serenity. I loved how the author portrayed her. Initially, she comes across as a genius with a photographic memory and high retention power. The author gives her no emotions except guilt as she thinks of her mother. But, as soon as Serenity enters the other world, I love how we see her exploring her feelings, feeling for others, standing up, and being brave to support the Resistance.

Secondly, I loved the concept of an alternate reality with similar people with different personalities. It was fun to see Serenity relate to Shawn and the chemistry they shared. Moreover, I loved the supporting cast who joined with Serenity, like Danica, Ma, and Todd. Each of them brought something new, and I especially adored Isaiah. The author adds a few thrilling twists you do not expect, and you wonder how Serenity can use her skills to escape it.

However, the travel concept was perhaps the only thing that boggled me about the story. I don’t want to give spoilers, but we see certain other characters go between realities different from Serenity, and I wondered how that was possible. I felt that the worldbuilding had a few minor loopholes that the author could have explained.

Apart from that, I loved this book! The story has an epic conclusion, and the ending still gave me goosebumps! I sure hope the author writes a possible sequel with these characters. Overall, “A Measure of Serenity” is a beautiful YA novel that makes you think.

Titanic meets The Shining in S.A. Barnes’ Dead Silence, a SF horror novel in which a woman and her crew board a decades-lost luxury cruiser and find the wreckage of a nightmare that hasn’t yet ended.

    A GHOST SHIP.
    A SALVAGE CREW.
    UNSPEAKABLE HORRORS.

Claire Kovalik is days away from being unemployed—made obsolete—when her beacon repair crew picks up a strange distress signal. With nothing to lose and no desire to return to Earth, Claire and her team decide to investigate.

What they find at the other end of the signal is a shock: the Aurora, a famous luxury space-liner that vanished on its maiden tour of the solar system more than twenty years ago. A salvage claim like this could set Claire and her crew up for life. But a quick trip through the Aurora reveals something isn’t right.

Whispers in the dark. Flickers of movement. Words scrawled in blood. Claire must fight to hold onto her sanity and find out what really happened on the Aurora, before she and her crew meet the same ghastly fate.

“Dead Silence” is like “Star Trek” meets “The Haunting of Hill House,” and I could not put it down.

Right from the get-go, the author sets the page as we see Claire trying to defend herself to Reed and MAx at the Verux Peace and Rehabilitation center. The story is terrifying and creepy, and I enjoyed how the author wrote the horror and suspense. There are some shocking scenes and gory deaths that you don’t expect. Yet, you also have moments where just the silence or the smell will give you goosebumps. The story takes a full swing as soon as the crew sets foot in the Aurora. On a side note, I also enjoyed the futuristic world-building and about the first colonist on Mars and how the author set the landscape for terror.

Moreover, the author draws the characters realistically, and I liked how we hear the story from Claire’s perspective. Claire is good in the lead, and I enjoyed how she has a sense of responsibility for her crew, and even the tiny moments like when she studies the inventory and food supplies and monitors the ship. As the story progressed, I felt like I was part of the crew with Voller, Kane, Lourdes, and Nysus. Each of them brought something new to the table, like Voller being loud, Kane being cautious, and Nysus with the details. Some highlights for me were when Claire sees her mother or navigating through the Aurora and discovering the bodies. The story leads to a thrilling climax, and I could not put the book down.

Overall, “Dead Silence” is an exciting science-fiction thriller worth checking out. I loved reading the book, even though I am not a science-fiction fan.
