We hired her to keep our daughter safe.

My husband didn’t understand why I wanted to return to work, especially while our daughter is still so young. She’s only four weeks old. But I’m at risk of losing my job if I don’t.

Bree Miller is the perfect answer — she’s young, bright and adores Delilah.

We go for a walk in Central Park on Bree’s first day. I’m taking a call when I hear a loud, high-pitched shriek. My heart races in my chest as I turn the corner.

A man dressed head-to-toe in black has his fingers wrapped around the handle of Delilah’s stroller.

Bree is fighting him off. As I approach, he flees. Bree is left with a dark bruise on her face and her eye is swollen shut. They tried to kidnap my daughter.

Then, threatening photos arrive on my doorstep.

Someone is after me and my family. And I can’t help but wonder if the real danger is outside. Or if I’ve invited her into my home.

    The Perfect Nanny Review:

The Perfect Nanny by D.L. Fisher is a twisty psychological thriller that keeps you guessing right until the end. The story centers on Lucinda, a protagonist whose perspective keeps readers on edge, as you’re never quite sure if what’s happening around her is real or a product of her state of mind. That sense of uncertainty made the book genuinely gripping at times.

I also enjoyed the tangled drama between Chad, Lucinda, Andrew, and Marly. The relationships are messy in the best way. Bree, the nanny, also adds a layer of tension and unease; from the start, there’s this underlying feeling that something just isn’t right with her. Moreover, the flashback scenes featuring a child enduring a terrible upbringing under Judy’s care were also haunting and gave the story a darker emotional depth.

There are some standout moments as well, like the attack scenes and the moment when Lucinda walks into Andrew’s studio, for example, really caught me off guard. And just when I thought I had everything figured out, the ending threw in a twist I genuinely didn’t see coming.

That said, some aspects didn’t fully land for me. Once I finished the book, certain character behaviors felt a bit implausible in hindsight given what we eventually learn. The pacing was also uneven as it took a while to get going, and then everything wrapped up almost too quickly in the final chapters, with major revelations squeezed into a short span.

Still, The Perfect Nanny was a fun, fast read with enough twists, suspense, and psychological tension to keep me turning the pages. It’s one of those thrillers that makes you question everyone’s motives, and that’s exactly what I enjoy in this genre.

    His First Wife Review:

Having read a couple of Jack Dane’s books before, I was curious to see how His First Wife would compare. This is the third book I’ve picked up by him. While it carries his signature knack for suspense, I could definitely sense a difference between this earlier work and the more polished, twist-laden stories he has released since.

The premise itself is intriguing. And the setup promises plenty of secrets, tension, and unravelling relationships. There are moments that kept me invested—particularly the thread of serial killer murders running through the city and how that storyline connects with the main storyline. Dane is talented at weaving external tension into domestic drama, and that’s on display here too.

That said, I didn’t find myself connecting with the characters in the same way as I did in some of his later books. In stories like The New Sitter or Such Lovely Neighbors, I could usually latch onto at least one character I enjoyed following. With His First Wife, however, I struggled to root for anyone. Most of the cast irked me. And the central figure, Spencer, especially came across as frustrating in his decisions and reactions.

The second half does deliver a twist, as Dane is known for, but this time it didn’t quite land for me. Instead of the jaw-dropping shock I’ve come to expect, I found myself questioning whether the reveal really worked within the story. It felt a little far-fetched looking back, and rather than giving me a surprise, it left me unconvinced.

Overall, His First Wife has flashes of the suspenseful storytelling that Dane would later hone. But compared to his stronger works, it lacked the same impact. An interesting read, though not my favorite from him.

Set in the Shock Pepper realm, this fantasy, sci-fi epic spans multiple storylines, mind-bending twists & gray characters. The first part of this series sets the base for how the storylines intertwine & clash, spreading across time and universes.

Sam is jobless & leads a sad life. His friend Adrian introduces him to a witch, who gives a magic potion that can put him to sleep for ten years. Sam drinks it to escape the tough times. He wakes up in a hospital three months later with a pregnant woman by his side; she claims to be his wife and that he had a head injury that makes him hallucinate about the witch. What happens to Sam next?

Shock Pepper is an edge-of-the-seat thriller with action and adventure from the word go. Things are not what they seem in this story filled with suspense and mystery. Prepare to have your mind blown as you enter the murky realm of Shock Pepper.

     Author Bio:

I love to write mind bending dark fantasy and sci-epic stories.

And I started envisioning Shock Pepper many years ago and glad to see it published.

I see myself as a storyteller, more than a writer.

    Shock Pepper: Part 1 Review:

The first installment of Shock Pepper delivers an exhilarating reading experience that feels like a soap opera in book form. With multiple interwoven storylines, each chapter ends on a cliffhanger, making it nearly impossible to put down. The storytelling is fast-paced, dynamic, and filled with twists that keep the reader engaged.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is its concept of time travel. The novel raises fascinating questions about how the various timelines will eventually merge and what deeper connections lie beneath the surface. The mystery of the witch adds another layer of suspense, making it one of the most compelling elements of the story.

Among the numerous subplots, my favorite was the one featuring Sam, Adrian, and Brianna. Their emotionally engaging and well-developed storyline kept me invested in their journey. Similarly, Jeff’s arc, particularly his conflict with the sinister Randy, was another standout. I felt deeply for Jeff and rooted for him in his struggle.

Moreover, Priya’s quest to find Kavitha was equally captivating, though I found Gowda somewhat unsettling. While her journey was intriguing, his presence made certain moments uncomfortable.

On the other hand, Chad and Greg’s protest storyline didn’t thrill me as much as the others. Similarly, while still enjoyable, George and Jordan’s plot lacked the same intensity level compared to other narratives in the book.

Despite these minor preferences, Shock Pepper excels in blending genres seamlessly. It offers a unique mix of romance, drama, thrills, sci-fi, and even horror, ensuring there’s something for everyone. With its short but gripping chapters, this book is an addictive read, and I can’t wait for Part 2 to see how everything unfolds!

News of a missing Instagram celebrity brings Senior Investigator Shana Merchant to a frozen island community of just eight people. When the visit turns deadly, her hunt for a killer collides with a cold case she’ll never forget . . .

Cary Caufield isn’t the first man to go missing on an island, but when he doesn’t return from ice fishing, his neighbors still fear the worst. Though Cary and his girlfriend run a profitable Instagram account about their year of living on a remote island, they don’t understand the dangers of the ice. The tight-knit community of long-time islanders will tell you Running Pine can be perilous – especially for city slickers who’ll do anything to get the perfect shot.

Newlywed Senior Investigator Shana Merchant takes her own safety into her hands to help. But it soon becomes clear that Cary’s disappearance is more complicated than she first thought. In a place where collaboration can save your life, the islanders are secretive, the newcomers aloof. Also, there’s evidence of an outsider hiding somewhere in the snow. At the same time, aspects of the case remind Shana of a homicide she worked back in Manhattan, a murder that haunts her still. As she enters a new phase of her life, she’s compelled to revisit the cold case. This plunges her headlong into the darkest part of her own past. And when a wind storm traps her on the island with a killer, she’ll need to solve both crimes before she becomes the next victim.

    The Coldest Case Review:

I have been following the series since the first book, and “The Coldest Case” is perhaps one of my favorites. The author masterfully immerses readers in Running Pine’s chilling and claustrophobic atmosphere, making this setting a character in its own right. The author’s vivid descriptions capture the cold and isolation of the island, effectively conveying a sense of unease that lingers throughout the narrative.

As the latest installment in the series, the book continues to delve into the complex relationship between Shana and Blake Bram. Shana remains a compelling character, grappling with her past trauma while navigating the current investigation. Wegert skillfully toggles between the past and present, presenting two cases—one in Running Pine and another involving Dave Johansson and Adam Starkweather. This dual narrative structure enriches the plot, allowing readers to decipher the intricate connections between the characters and their histories. Certain scenes, like the eerie symbolism of the coywolf and the haunting appearance of a homeless man watching Shana, add to the book’s unsettling ambiance, making for a gripping read.

The supporting characters are equally intriguing, each with their motives, creating a web of suspense that culminates in a surprising twist. While some, like Imogen, instill a sense of creepiness, others, such as Tim, Val, Dori, and Emmeline, add a comforting warmth and depth to the story, engaging the readers and making them feel a part of the narrative. Moreover, Wegert’s exploration of social media’s influence on the case provides an engaging contemporary angle, reflecting how modern technology intersects with traditional island life.

Overall, Wegert’s writing invites readers to become close to the islanders and their protective nature. I eagerly anticipate more books in the series, as I would love to revisit Shana and Tim’s journey.

    My Dark Secret Review:

“My Dark Secret” by Dawn Hemmings is a compelling read that delves into the mind of Isla, a librarian with an unsettling fascination for true crime and murder. Isla’s character is intriguing, primarily because her fascination is rooted in the wrong reasons, adding a layer of complexity and suspense to the narrative. The author masterfully unravels Isla’s personality, offering insights into her upbringing that shape her morbid curiosity. As I read, I found myself increasingly captivated by Isla’s psychological landscape, eager to understand how her mind worked.

The book’s structure is another highlight. From the meticulous planning to the chilling execution, Hemmings spares no detail. Each phase of the plot is crafted with precision, making the story both fascinating and creepy. The thoroughness with which the author describes each part of Isla’s plans left me both horrified and riveted. This attention to detail enhances the story’s impact, making it a memorable read.

Furthermore, the author adeptly explores the moral implications of Isla’s actions. As Isla grapples with her conscience, readers are prompted to reflect on the ethical dimensions of true crime fascination. This adds depth to the narrative, elevating it beyond a simple thriller.

At just the right length, “My Dark Secret” is concise and focused. The plot remains tight and does not deviate, making it an easy read that can be completed in one sitting. This brevity, combined with its intense storyline, ensures that readers are engrossed from beginning to end. Overall, “My Dark Secret” is a chilling, thought-provoking book that I highly recommend.

    Her Husband’s Lies Review:

Firstly, I enjoyed the premise of the story and the way the author described it. A man in a coma, a wife searching for answers, and a psychic giving clues in bits and pieces. The story grabbed my attention right from the beginning. While the pacing is slow, I liked how it adds to the suspense and makes the tale atmospheric.

Callie was fun in the lead. Yes, she sometimes got on my nerves because of some bad decisions, like going to Nathan’s house alone and doing things before confronting Footman. But I enjoyed how she searched for answers about Abel’s life. On the other hand, Althea was my favorite character. The author wrote her so well that we see how conflicted she gets over her abilities, and she sometimes doesn’t trust them. I enjoyed the concept of alternative memory and how the author described it. The supporting cast, like Footman and Cormac, also added nicely.

Quite a few moments also had me at the edge of my seat, like Callie finding herself trapped when they go to the cabin or when she gets uncomfortable in Nathan’s house. The author writes the suspense well, and you get quite a few red herrings and twists you don’t see coming. I also liked how the story sets the premise for a continuation, which I would love to pick up if we have a continuation! The side story of the missing girls also blended well.

Perhaps the only downside is how some subplots didn’t have any progression, like Cynthia, and some characters disappear in the background in the latter half.

Overall, I immensely enjoyed “Her Husband’s Lies” and hope the author writes a sequel.

    The Family Trap Review:

“The Family Trap” is a unique suspense thriller with a distinctive concept that I enjoyed reading.

Firstly, I enjoyed the premise of this thriller. It surrounds the dynamic between a mother and her son’s girlfriend as the girlfriend gets pregnant and moves in. I liked the tense dynamic between Prudence and Zoe. Prudence feels protective towards her son Nathan when Zoe enters their lives. Zoe creeped me out immediately, especially with the weird emails she sent to her father. The author adds a few quick twists and shocking deaths that I did not anticipate. Some surprising moments in the tale are the incident in the nursery when Prudence is present or when we find out what happens to Bob.

Prudence is my favorite in the story, and I admired how she managed to give Zoe multiple chances, even though she suspected her of foul play. Even the supporting characters like Heidi and Alana were memorable. Heidi also got on my nerves as she took Zoe’s side more than Prudence’s, even though she is supposed to be Prudence’s close friend. The author makes all the characters memorable because they behave and do things you don’t necessarily approve of, but you understand their intentions.

Perhaps the only minor criticism was how the story went on a different tangent toward the climax. While I liked how the author gave a twisted ending, looking back, it did not justify why some of the characters behaved that way.

Overall, “The Family Trap” starts slowly but has a fast-paced second half with a surprising ending, making it worth reading.

    I’m Following You Review:

I have read a few of the author’s other psychological thrillers, and I liked how she writes each chapter to keep you guessing about each character’s intentions. In this book, I kept wondering if Collette was right about Amanda or if Amanda was hiding something. The author nicely paces the story with concise chapters, where you know something is off with one of them and try to guess the possibilities of what could happen. The ending surprised me completely, and it made the story worth reading.

The two main characters balance each other nicely. Frankly, I liked Collette even though she does some weird stuff with Amanda to mess up her mind. You know she is yearning for the loss of Arabella and tries to make her life better by going to grief counseling. The author also added interesting passages with the concepts they talk about during grief counseling, like intrusive thoughts and your subconscious communicating with you. On the other hand, Amanda got on my nerves because of how scatterbrained she came across. She is supposed to be this intelligent doctor, yet she doesn’t consider installing security cameras when she suspects someone is following her. She does nothing except wait like a target for her mystery person to attack her, which irked me.

However, the story could have been better. It started strong and ended well, and while it had exciting moments, it staggered in the middle. For a while, nothing happens much except for how Collette does something to scare Amanda and then tells Jackson about it on a loop. The story could have been trimmed in certain places and added more twists.

But “I’m Following You” is a fun, guilty pleasure read and worth checking out if you like short psychological thrillers with surprising, twisty endings.

    The New Wife Review:

“The New Wife” is an intriguing psychological thriller about Nell and how her marriage to Oliver puts her life in danger as someone targets her.

Firstly, I enjoyed how the authors set up the plot. They don’t waste time initially with how Oliver meets Nell and how it impacts his marriage. The book begins with Nell already married Oliver for a while, and how his daughters, Ruby and Poppy, and ex-wife Fiona don’t like Nell in the picture. Throw in some other shady characters like Sean, who is obsessed with Ruby, and creepy moments like Nell noticing items shifting in her house and finding shredded dresses, and this book was quite entertaining. Initially, the story felt slightly over the place, but I adapted and enjoyed the pacing.

Moreover, I liked how the authors wrote the dynamic between Nell and Ruby. Both of them have their storylines and initially don’t get along with each other at all. But, unlike Poppy, Ruby has various layers, and you see her looking at the bigger picture and trying to bond with Nell. I also liked Poppy’s unpredictability and the storyline where she goes missing. Carla was another interesting character who unexpectedly added a nice mix when initially I thought she would be a backdrop.

Perhaps the only downside to the tale is how I could easily predict the culprit, as there are only a few suspects. However, the authors throw in red herrings even in the end, where you wonder if there are multiple suspects. The last few chapters are thoroughly gripping as a LOT happens.

Apart from that, I enjoyed reading “The New Wife,” which was a fun suspense thriller.

I recently read “I Won’t Let Go” by the author and loved that book. It was one of the few stories that gave me nightmares! Hence, I had high expectations for “The Night Nurse” as the premise sounded like something I would enjoy. While I liked “The Night Nurse,” it didn’t shock me as some of the author’s previous works did.

There are some lovely elements to the story. For one, Laura and Sam’s friendship was one of the highlights, and I liked how they bonded. Moreover, Bella and Andrei were creepy, and I didn’t particularly appreciate it when they started showing their true colors.

Laura is fun in the lead and has her moments, primarily when interacting with Bella and Andrei. I also enjoyed the strained relationship between Billy and Laura. The author also adds some exciting moments when Angela comes into the picture and shows us flashbacks of how abusive Laura’s mother was with them. The author details the character relationship nicely, giving them depth and making me like Laura.

However, while I enjoyed the character moments, the author could have added more thrills and suspense. I wish that there were more twists and turns in the tale. The story takes time to get going, as the author adds quite a few details that I found unnecessary. The thriller elements come into place around 50% of the book, and it would have been nice to see more shocks. Moreover, in such books, I expected a shocking twist in the end, and the book didn’t end the way I had expected.

Nevertheless, “The Night Nurse” is a decent thriller, but not the best of the author.
