Fountain of youth? More like murderous medication!

Carrie Kromer pushes the boundaries of science, not her social life. The brilliant gerontologist has a good time with her beloved lab rats. Besides, she is also taking care of her elderly mother and the other eccentric old folks at the nursing home. So no one is more surprised than Carrie when she steals the lab’s top-secret, experimental medicine for aging in reverse.

Two-time ex-con Johnny Fairfax dreams of cooking greatness. But when his corrupt parole officer tries to drag him from the nursing home kitchen, the suddenly young again residents spring to his defense and murder the guy.   And they request Johnny to cook them evidence consuming dinner to satisfy their unsatisfied side effect appetite.

As their unexpected mutual attraction gets hot, Carrie and Johnny catch up with the authorities, who arrive to investigate the killing. But even more dangerous than the man-eating residents could be the arrival of fatal pharmaceutical hitmen.

Can Carrie and Johnny find true love in all this bloody madness?

Cooking for Cannibals is a darkly comic thriller with a loose helping of romance. If you like fast-paced plots, unconventional characters, and humor that crosses the line, then you’ll have a feast with Rich Leder’s wild ride.

Cooking For Cannibals Review:

I don’t think I have ever read a thrilling, strange (and slightly gross) book that also made me laugh. The author has an impeccable way of writing dark humor. It made the book entertaining to read. The author adds a bit of everything from twists, comedy, and romance. Moreover, he gives equal importance to the characters while progressing the plot. The plot itself is so farfetched and out there, but somehow the author makes it work. You have no idea which direction the story will go. The story goes from espionage and chemical testing to cannibalism, and just a lot of fun to read.

Moreover, I also enjoyed the way the author developed the characters. Carrie and Johnny are dynamic, quirky, and funny. Furthermore, Carrie is sweet and hilarious and was my favorite character. From her love of rats to her scenes with Johnny, Carrie shines in the story.

However, the only part that threw me off a bit is how the author sidetracks the storyline by going through the other characters’ character studies. While I thought this added a nice touch to the story, I felt it digressed from the storyline.

Apart from that, this was an exciting book, and I enjoyed reading it. Overall, “Cooking for Cannibals” is a beautiful, wild, thrill ride where you don’t know how it would turn out.
