Eyes of Darkness Review:
This book was released in 1981 under the author’s pseudonym Leigh Nicols, but has resurfaced recently due to the uncanny resemblance of the virus mentioned to the Corona Virus pandemic. Firstly, the author calls the killer virus as Wuhan 400 which is a strange coincidence to the Corona Virus originating from Wuhan, China. Secondly, the symptoms of the virus are similar to what infected people face today, in a less drastic way. However, apart from these similarities, there is nothing related in this story to the pandemic. Surprisingly, I have an older copy of the book where the author calls the virus as Gorki-400 that the Soviet Union developed. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the publishers changed the name and place to Wuhan!
But, pushing the virus incident aside, this book is very interesting and a page turner in itself. The plot is gripping and I could not put it down! Cristina is great as the main protagonist! You can really feel her sorrow and desperation as she tries to investigate her son’s disappearance. I loved the action packed scenes when the bad men are chasing Tina and Elliot. Moreover, I also enjoyed the creepy supernatural elements the author included. There are some scenes where the book feels dated, like when they buy paper maps to locate Danny. But apart from that, this book was very entertaining!
If you are a fan of Stranger Things, you will definitely enjoy Eyes of Darkness!
