Firstly, I enjoyed the premise of the story and the way the author described it. A man in a coma, a wife searching for answers, and a psychic giving clues in bits and pieces. The story grabbed my attention right from the beginning. While the pacing is slow, I liked how it adds to the suspense and makes the tale atmospheric.
Callie was fun in the lead. Yes, she sometimes got on my nerves because of some bad decisions, like going to Nathan’s house alone and doing things before confronting Footman. But I enjoyed how she searched for answers about Abel’s life. On the other hand, Althea was my favorite character. The author wrote her so well that we see how conflicted she gets over her abilities, and she sometimes doesn’t trust them. I enjoyed the concept of alternative memory and how the author described it. The supporting cast, like Footman and Cormac, also added nicely.
Quite a few moments also had me at the edge of my seat, like Callie finding herself trapped when they go to the cabin or when she gets uncomfortable in Nathan’s house. The author writes the suspense well, and you get quite a few red herrings and twists you don’t see coming. I also liked how the story sets the premise for a continuation, which I would love to pick up if we have a continuation! The side story of the missing girls also blended well.
Perhaps the only downside is how some subplots didn’t have any progression, like Cynthia, and some characters disappear in the background in the latter half.
Overall, I immensely enjoyed “Her Husband’s Lies” and hope the author writes a sequel.
