One boy must earn the trust of a blind dragon and hunt down an elusive sorceress before she can rekindle the war that nearly destroyed their world.
As the Kingdom of Maldobar emerges victorious from the brutal invasion of the Tibran Empire, much of the land is left in utter ruin. With his home destroyed and family gone, 16-year-old Thatcher Renley has no one left to turn to. And when he’s mistaken for a Tibran soldier and banished to a wartime prison camp, Thatcher knows his only hope for freedom lies in appealing to Queen Jenna directly.
But getting out of the prison camp might be the least of his worries— especially after he stumbles across a feral dragon locked in an iron cell.
As far as dragons go, Fornax is a lost cause. The battle that killed his rider also left him blind and too aggressive for any knight to control. But Thatcher can’t deny feeling drawn to the beast. Does he have what it takes to calm Fornax and join the proud ranks of Maldobar’s Dragonriders? Only time will tell. And with a bloodthirsty Tibran witch threatening to rekindle the chaos of war, everyone’s time may be running out.

Hunter Review:
I loved everything about this book, including the plot, the characters, and the dragons!
The author has a beautiful way of telling the story, which I feel a reader of any age would enjoy. However, as there are mass burials and brutal prison camps, perhaps it is not suited for middle graders (without parental guidance). Apart from that, this book was just excellent!
The characters are unforgettable. While Thatch is the lead character, I truly loved the entire ensemble. Thatch and Murdoc’s friendship is lovely and fluid. Thatch sees the best in Murdoc, but Murdoc keeps pushing him away. Moreover, the author maintains a mystery level to Murdoc’s character, and I found him intriguing throughout the story. Similarly, Jaevid and Reigh also play a significant role, and I liked how the author paired their connections.
Similarly, Phoebe was also exciting, and I enjoyed Thatch’s friendship with her. I was glued to the pages when Thatch is conflicted over trusting Phoebe when he learns her secret. Also, Fornax is adorable! One of my favorite scenes is when Thatch first rides Fornax and realizes how strong the bond is between them. The author did an excellent job in giving the dragons strong emotions that make you connect to them.
As this is the first book in the series, it mainly sets the next book’s plot. I cannot wait to see how it continues as the group go on their quest to Argonox and Devana. Overall, “Hunter” is a beautiful fantasy novel, and I would recommend it if you are in the mood for a fun adventure quest featuring knights and dragons. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
