An intense high-stakes story about five friends and the deadly secret that could send their lives up in flames, perfect for fans of Karen McManus and E. Lockhart.

In Gap Mountain, California, everyone knows about fire season. And no one is more vigilant than 18-year-old Hannah Warner, the sheriff’s daughter and aspiring FBI agent. That is until this summer. When Hannah and her best friends accidentally spark an enormous and deadly wildfire, their instinct is to lie to the police and the fire investigators.

But as the blaze roars through their rural town and towards Yosemite National Park, Hannah’s friends begin to crack and she finds herself going to extreme lengths to protect their secret. Because sometimes good people do bad things. And if there’s one thing people hate, it’s liars.

“Lies Like Wildfire” is a fast-paced young adult thriller filled with lies, deceptions, and secrets that will have you glued to the page.

This book was different, in my opinion, because I was not too fond of any of the characters. In most books, there is one character who I can gravitate towards in the tale. But, in this book, it’s so difficult to like the group because of how they behave. Yet, the story is so gripping that I could not put it down. The first half of the story is exciting! The author describes the situation in such detail that you easily visualize yourself with the group. I was wondering how they would all react once they see the fatalities rising.

However, the author then takes the story to another exciting level in the second half when Violet disappears. What happened to her and why? The author adds shocking twists and turns as Hannah finds an item of clothing that reveals something new. Moreover, she ends the story in a cliffhanger where you have to find out what’s happening in the next chapter. The story was so addictive!

In addition to this, I also liked how the author portrayed Hannah’s emotions. It was interesting to see how the guilt starts to tear Hannah inside, yet she cannot reveal it without getting into serious trouble. Hannah doesn’t know who she can trust anymore, even within the group. Moreover, I liked the storyline between Hannah’s conflicting feelings with Drummer and Violet. Being that they are teenagers, it was nice to see some YA romantic angst between the characters. The story also had a shocking twist that I did not expect.

Overall, “Lies Like Wildfire” is a great young adult mystery thriller, and I enjoyed reading it!
