Lost Girl: A Shelby Day Novel Review:

Lost Girl is an interesting crime mystery thriller that I enjoyed reading.

Firstly, the characters are nicely drawn out. I liked Shelby as the main character. Sure, she is a bit frustrating at times from the way she treats Jack, but I could understand her reasoning. To be honest, Jack came across as too possessive and I thought Shelby had good reasons to take a step back. But, I liked their chemistry. Actually, I liked Shelby with both Julian and Jack as she had good chemistry with them both.  Moreover, it was interesting to see Shelby balance work, her love life and her father’s condition.

Moving to the plot, I thought the author did a nice job in setting up the murder mystery. The story starts off very well where we are immediately pulled into the double homicide. There are quite a few potential suspects to keep you guessing. The killer also turned out to be someone who I did not expect, which was a nice twist. The author put in all the right elements to make this a good crime, mystery novel.

My only criticism with the story is how it shifts focus in between. The story starts with a bang where the plot focuses only on the murders. But halfway into the book, the author shifts focus to only Shelby and Jack and their drama. Later towards the climax, the story is only again on track with the mystery. I felt like the character development and the plot didn’t go hand in hand. It would have been nice if the author integrated these elements in tandem.

Apart from that, this was a very nice crime mystery story. I hope we see Shelby Day in future novels as well.
