About the Author:

Alison has been a legal executive, a registered childminder, and a teacher. She has traveled the world, from spending a year as an exchange student in the US in the 1970s and trekking the Great Wall of China and lots of other interesting places in between.

Also, in her mid-forties, Alison went to university part-time. She gained a first-class degree in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University and an MA in the same subject from Oxford Brookes University, both while still working full-time. Her first book was published a year after she completed her master’s degree.

Mine is a domestic drama set in 1960s London based on real events in her family. Moreover, she is the only person who can tell this particular story. Exploring themes of class, ambition, and sexual politics, Mine shows how ordinary people can make choices that lead them into extraordinary situations.

Moreover, Alison teaches creative and life-writing runs workshops with Imagine Creative Writing. She is also a freelance editor and is a member of the Society of Authors and the Romantic Novelists’ Association.

She lives in Somerset, within sight of Glastonbury Tor.

“Mine” Review:

Reading “Mine” was like watching a ripple effect. What starts as a simple story soon turns into a compelling drama.

“Mine” is one of those books that just grabbed my attention from the first page. I could not put it down. The story is a simple one, but the author portrays the characters and the dialogues in a gripping yet straightforward manner.

The author wrote all the characters in a dynamic, complex manner, making the story so special. Lily and Leonard are mesmerizing together. At times I hated them for what they were doing to their family. Yet, a part of me wished for them to get away with their affair. You feel a variety of emotions for the characters. Similarly, Jack and Beverley are winning in their roles. While I initially despised them, they grew on me, and I started to root for them.

Moreover, I also liked the dynamic between Beverly and Lily. You can see what a hypocrite Lily is for judging Beverley when Lily herself is being sinful. Furthermore, the ending is just shocking, and one that I did not expect at all. The end truly shocked me, and I still have goosebumps thinking about it.

However, While I loved the story, I thought the book was a bit too lengthy. There were a few instances where the story felt repetitive. Apart from that, I enjoyed this story a lot. Overall, “Mine” is a gripping drama that will make you emotional with its dramatic tale. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author.
