The course of true love never did run smooth, but with Phoebe MacLeod it always gets a chance. Perfect for fans of Jo Watson and Mhairi McFarlane.
Everyone remembers their first love. Jess Thomas definitely does. So, it’s more than a little awkward when Jess’s first love, Jamie Ferguson, turns out to be the best man at the wedding she’s catering for. And more than a little insulting when he doesn’t appear to remember her at all.
Since Jamie broke her heart (via text!), 10 years earlier, Jess has sworn off romance. And with a booming catering business to focus on, she’s doing OK. She has no interest in revisiting the past.
But when Jess’s car breaks down on a country lane, she has no choice but to accept Jamie’s help. Now, Jamie is determined to show Jess he’s a new man. But can guys like Jamie ever really change? And if she gives him another chance, is she setting herself up for a fall?
About the Author:
Phoebe MacLeod is the author of several popular romantic comedies. She lives in Kent with her partner, grown up children and disobedient dog. Her love for her home county is apparent in her books, which have either been set in Kent or have a Kentish connection. She currently works as an IT consultant and writes in her spare time. She has always had a passion for learning new skills, including cookery courses, learning to drive an HGV and, most recently, qualifying to instruct on a Boeing 737 flight simulator.
Never Ever Getting Back Together Review:
“NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER” is an adorable rom-com filled with charming moments, making it impossible not to adore the characters.
Firstly, the author starts Jess and Jamie’s connection in a lovely way, shedding light on Jess’s situation, her efforts to dodge Jamie, and her eventual willingness to accept his help despite her initial doubts. This sets the stage for a delightful banter and dynamic between the two characters, paving the way for further interactions and story developments.
Throughout the narrative, Jess and Jamie engage in light-hearted and captivating conversations, getting to know each other’s pasts and career journeys. The author skillfully weaves in a subtle romantic tension as the two characters bond. Jess discovers she’s enjoying Jamie’s company more than anticipated, all while being cautious about her feelings. One of my favorite moments is when they hit the karaoke stage and share some unforgettable moments.
What’s also heartwarming is the adorable friendship between Alice and Jess. Their deep connection, reminiscences about their journey in the catering business, and choices regarding their education and careers provide valuable insights into their characters and motivations. This adds depth to the story, and including Laura as a reliable anchor in Jess’s life is a beautiful touch.
Lastly, I thoroughly enjoyed the role of Simone in the story and the drama it brought into Jess and Jamie’s lives. It’s always entertaining when a character stirs up dilemmas for the love interests, and I appreciated the author’s incorporation of Simone.
In a nutshell, “NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER” is a heartwarming tale. The author strikes a perfect balance between romance and lightheartedness, creating characters you can genuinely invest in, all without veering into melodrama. I’m definitely eager to explore more of the author’s works.
