What an adorable picture book “Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose” was. It is a beautiful book that shows the relationship between a boy and his dog.

Firstly, I must say I enjoy how the team came up with the title. It sounds pretty gross, but something that would appeal to small children and find it funny. However, even though the title would make you think that it is a book about nose picking and boogers, it isn’t. It’s just one page in the entire story. Instead, the creators came up with a beautiful tale about how the main character and his dog share a strong bond. We all yearn to have that one person that we can be ourselves without behaving so that people expect us to adhere. In this book, the boy has that with his dog. He can be his true self with the dog because the dog will always support and protect him no matter what.

Moreover, the illustrations by Lisa Bronson Mezoff are adorable. It’s simple illustrations, but it conveys the message beautifully. The illustrator focuses mainly on blues and greens, and I adored the artist’s expressions on the characters. Some of my favorite pictures were where the boy sings holding the toothbrush or when he goes on imaginary adventures with his companion. The book beautifully conveys the message that you can always be yourself when you are in the company of loved ones.

Overall, “Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose” is a nicely executed picture book that will surely appeal to the target readers.
