I have been a fan of Darren Shan ever since I read the “Cirque Du Freak” series long ago. I was very excited to get my hands of the The Archibald Lox series, which features the first three books.

This series does not disappoint and I loved reading all the three books of the first Volume. Its one of those books that I feel a reader of any age would enjoy!

Archibald Lox and the Bridge Between Worlds

What a wonderful start to the series. As this is the first book, the book introduces the pivotal characters and sets the main story-line for the series. I loved Archie’s friendship with Inez and how they support each other no matter what. Their friendship was the highlight of the book.

Even though the book is quick to read, the duo face many adventures; from meeting Preston, to fighting the creepy Orlan and Argate, and meeting the King and solving a puzzle with gargoyles! The story takes you on a ride, and you have no idea how it is going to turn out.

I loved everything about the story, and can’t wait to see how it continues!

Archibald Lox and the Empress of Suanpan

This is my favorite book out of the three, only because I loved the match between Archie and Urszula. She reminded me a lot of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, where she makes the rules and doesn’t play fair. The game was also very gripping where you don’t know how it will turn out. I loved how Archie is perceptive to his surroundings and looks at things that others ignore.

Also, there are new characters, like the members of Thesp, who add well to the plot. The group make the story interesting with their adventures in Suanpan. Moreover, I loved Archie’s interactions with Winston and felt they shared a history, even though Archie has not met him before.

This series just gets better makes you want to read Book 3 immediately.

Archibald Lox and the Vote of Alignment

What an amazing ending to the first volume! Initially, I thought it was a bit bumpy in the beginning. The story starts off slowly where the previous book ended, but not much happens in the first few chapters. However, it becomes a roller-coaster ride once we read about Grop! From then, the story is back on track and does not disappoint.

Also, I loved Pol and the other vine rats and wanted to see more of them. Archie and Inez share an amazing bond. The adventures they go through to get to the Cuckoo’s Nest was amazing! There are quite a few twists and turns (literally) they encounter that you don’t expect. Moreover, I was so happy that the author did not complicate their friendship and turn it into a romance.

There are still a few open ended questions like how Archie got his skills, and what happens to some of the characters. But overall, this was very satisfying conclusion to the series.
