I had no idea where the author was taking the story. Caves, deformed children, ghosts, and gruesome murders are just some of the elements present in this creepy tale. The author paces the story in a deliciously gripping manner where you don’t know who the ghostly apparition and her babies will attack next. Some scenes are alarming, like when Jenny feels something under her bed or finds out what happened to Martin.

Then, there is the mysterious man who Jerry sees but disappears when he gets close to him. How is he related to the investigations? The author keeps you guessing as to what is happening and where it would lead. The story’s villain also seems to be someone indestructible, which adds to the thrills and chills. Interestingly, there are parts where the author makes you wonder if whatever is happening is due to supernatural forces or just a sinister criminal.

Similarly, I enjoyed the main characters and thought they blended well with the plot. Jerry and Jamila make a good pair in trying to solve the mystery. Even some of the supporting characters like Louise, Dr. Macleod, and Martin were memorable. The storyline has a diverse cast from various cultures and ethnicities, which makes the story feel realistic. Moreover, there are also some shocking deaths that I did not anticipate that made me jump from my seat.

Overall, I loved reading “The Children God Forgot” by Graham Masterton and am excited to pick up some of the author’s previous novels as well.
