Instead of falling through the looking glass, I’ve entered a cursed world where the tarot deck has come alive, there are impossible creatures that talk, and the high seas are deadly and filled with pirates.
My name’s Soren, and I’m not innocent. But my sister is and I’ll do anything to protect her. When my final con goes wrong and I steal a golden tarot card from a fortune teller that can open portals, I’m whisked away like Alice and the white rabbit, only it’s a spider who beckons me and Tarotland makes Wonderland look like a walk in the park.
I wake up on the ship of the Devil himself who brands me a spy, trading one jail for another. He has a darkness in him that sends shivers down my spine. Still, there’s something about him that piques my curiosity.
All I want is to get back home to my sister, but the only way to do that is to get the Devil to release me, and steal the Ace of Wands, a weapon of great power inside of this world. Unfortunately, it’s being protected by the Empress’s magic, and she wants my head on a platter.
Unless I can steal the Ace of Wands, there’s no escape from this world, and I’ll never see my sister again.

The Cursed Tarot Review:
Like how Soren whirlpools in the magical world, “The Cursed Tarot” immersed me in its pages, and I enjoyed reading the fantasy adventure.
This book is voluminous for a Fantasy tale but done so well. It’s been a while since I read a story about pirates, magical lands and creatures, and an evil queen, and the author paced it perfectly! Initially, it took me time to understand certain concepts like the oumala, but the author wrote the tale in an easygoing manner that I did not mind. The world-building is also extensive, where we see just how intricate the author has set it up.
Soren is fantastic in the lead as she journeys to get the Ace of Wands back to her world and be with Talia. I found a lot of characters, like Tessa, Nkella, and Demitri, to name a few. The author added mysterious characters like Madame Asteria and the concept of the Tarot Cards to spice up the tale. There are twists and turns, especially once you are halfway into the story.
Moreover, I loved how the author added elements of Alice in Wonderland to the story’s theme. Even though I didn’t know that this was an Alice in Wonderland retelling, as I read the tale, I loved certain scenes, like when Soren eats the cookie or learns of the Empress, or even the Gari the dragon, that made me remember the classic.
Overall, I enjoyed reading “The Cursed Tarot” and thought the author did a beautiful job retelling the classic into a futuristic fantasy adventure.
