The Guilty Wife Review:

“The Guilty Wife” (previously titled “Her Darkest Fear”) was a riveting slow-burn psychological thriller that kept me guessing.

The author sets the suspense right from the first page and makes the story suspenseful, like when Frankie sees the replica car model. The story toggles between the past and the present, a format which I enjoy reading. It was interesting to see how the events from the past lead to the present to impact Frankie’s decisions. Moreover, the author also adds quite a few redding herrings and shocking moments that intrigued me. Some of the memorable scenes are when Frankie wakes up in a stranger’s house, or when she starts getting the text messages, or when she sees someone pressed against the window.

Similarly, the author also wrote the characters nicely. Frankie is fascinating in the story as you see her trying to get over what happened years ago. I also liked the scenes where she undergoes therapy to seek closure. Some of the characters like Mason and Todd were a question mark, as you wonder of their intentions. The author wrote Frankie’s dynamics with Damien, Mason, and Todd nicely, where you see Frankie act contrastingly different when she is with them.

However, while I enjoyed reading the story, I felt that the author slowly paced the plot. The story starts and ends on a high note but lags in the middle, especially when Frankie goes on her trip. The story would have been more engaging had the author paced the plot faster with a few more twists in the middle.

Nevertheless, I still liked this book. Overall, “The Guilty Wife” is a suspenseful psychological thriller and worth checking out.
