The action-packed third installment in Peter Brown’s internationally bestselling The Wild Robot series takes Roz on an under-the-ocean journey to save her beloved island!

Life for Roz and the animals on their island is wild, natural, harmonious. Her son Brightbill has even found a mate! But then, one day an injured seal washes ashore and warns of dangerous, cloudy waters that are flowing toward the island. And soon the animals force themselves inland to fight over dwindling resources. Roz calms and organizes the animals, but the poison tide takes a terrible toll on the island. And when the robot discovers that her new body is waterproof, she marches into the waves and sets out across the ocean, determined to stop the poison tide.

During her undersea journey, Roz encounters amazing geological formations and incredible creatures. She also sees the devastation caused by the toxic waters. Creatures she meets along the way direct her to a mysterious character known as the Ancient Shark, who explains that the poison tide is caused by a huge station that floats on the waves; a station operated by humans and by robots. To stop them, the Ancient Shark is prepared to attack with an army of sea creatures. However, Roz hopes to find a peaceful solution, instead. Can the wild robot save the ocean and her island and everything she loves? This thrilling third installment of the Wild Robot series takes readers on a new adventure under the ocean and to the frigid northern waters where Roz may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

The Wild Robot Protects Review:

First of all, kudos to the author for beautifully capturing the wonders of nature. Following Roz’s oceanic adventures in these chapters, we witness a fascinating array of marine life and gain a deeper appreciation for the delicate underwater world. Roz’s unwavering commitment to thwarting the poison tide and bringing hope to the ocean’s residents sets the stage for the impending threat that looms over the island’s inhabitants. The author researched to seamlessly weave these elements into the story.

Secondly, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Roz. Despite being a robot, her personality shines through brilliantly. The bond she shares with Brightbill and their connection to the island’s diverse wildlife take center stage in this narrative. I also appreciated how the author delved into Roz’s conflicting emotions as she navigates the precarious space between robots and humans while encountering new obstacles.

Thirdly, the author takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Some moments paint vivid pictures of breathtaking beauty, such as the scenes with glaciers and the aurora. On the flip side, the story has heart-pounding moments, like witnessing fires, Roz’s daring plunge into the water, and the intense encounter between the polar bear and the walrus. Moreover, the climax had me on the edge of my seat as the author skillfully built up to the events in a thrilling and adventurous manner.

However, there were instances where the educational aspects momentarily slowed down the narrative pace as Roz embarked on her journey. Additionally, I wished for more appearances from Brightbill and Glimmer, as their roles in the story felt limited.

Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as a standalone. I was pleasantly surprised that it’s part of a series. I’m eager to pick up the previous books to learn how this remarkable adventure began.
