Claire Fraise earned her B.A. in English from Tufts University. She published her debut novel when she was 16 (award-winning YA dystopian novel IMPERFECT), and her YA supernatural thriller THEY STAY is coming out in October 2021. They Stay Review:

“They Stay” is a supernatural, young adult thriller that turned out to be so much better than what I hoped.

I’m showing my age here, but this book gave me “The Sixth Sense” vibes. The author does a great job in setting up the suspense and including dynamic characters that stand out. As soon as you meet Francesca, you know that the story will be something special because of what she brings. The author slowly adds the creepy factor, and I could not put the book down in the second half. Many moments gave me goosebumps and had me praying for the characters.

The characters are fantastic! My heart went out to Shiloh right from the beginning when she found out that Max was missing. However, I think Francesca was my favorite character. She has an aura of mystery around her because of her unique ability. Some memorable moments are when Francesca thinks she sees George at the cemetery or when the man attacks her. It was interesting to see how Francesca paired with Shiloh to rescue Max. Similarly, even the supporting characters like Jonah and Miles are memorable and add value to the plot. Some moments that gave me goosebumps were when Shiloh sees Connie standing in the shadows or the gripping climax when everyone’s lives are in danger.

The author also writes the story so creatively by toggling each chapter between the various perspectives. Moreover, I enjoyed the inserts between each chapter, like interview transcripts and news articles. Once you start reading, this book you will not be able to put it down.

Overall, “They Stay” is a rollercoaster ride that you would enjoy if you were a fan of the genre. I wonder how the series would continue and look forward to reading it.
