Ivy, Mateo, and Cal used to be close. Now all they have in common is Carlton High and the beginning of a very bad day.

Type A Ivy lost a student council election to the class clown, and now she has to face the school, humiliated. Heartthrob Mateo is burned out–he’s been working two jobs since his family’s business failed. And outsider Cal just got stood up…. again.

So when Cal pulls into campus late for class and runs into Ivy and Mateo, it seems like the perfect opportunity to turn a bad day around. They’ll ditch and go into the city. Just the three of them, like old times. Except they’ve barely left the parking lot before they run out of things to say…

Until they spot another Carlton High student skipping school–and follow him to the scene of his own murder. In one chance move, their day turns from dull to deadly. And it’s about to get worse.

It turns out Ivy, Mateo, and Cal still have some things in common. They all have a connection to the dead kid. And they’re all hiding something.

Now they’re all wondering–could it be that their chance reconnection wasn’t by chance after all?

From the author of One of Us Is Lying comes a brand-new pulse-pounding thriller. It’s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with murder when three old friends relive an epic ditch day, and it goes horribly–and fatally–wrong.

“You’ll Be the Death of Me” is the latest young adult mystery thriller by one of my favorite genre authors and was a gripping read.

I enjoyed reading “The Cousins” last year and enjoyed it, so I had similar expectations for this one. “You’ll Be the Death of Me” again is a fun murder mystery where the author adds quite a few twists and turns, especially towards the second half. While the story takes a while to set up momentum, it was hard to put down once the plot thickens. Moreover, the twist in the end as to who was responsible again threw me off and was someone I did not expect.

All the three characters had some connection to Boney, and it was interesting to see how they got together to find out what happened. Frankly, I loved Cal’s backstory as I thought he had the juiciest secret amongst the three. However, Ivy was my favorite character, and I enjoyed her reactions to the situation. Mateo was the weakest link, in my opinion, compared to the others. On a side note, I also liked Ishaan Mittal and Zack Abrams’s side commentary on the reports of Boney’s investigation.

However, I felt that this book took time to set up. It takes a few chapters before our characters witness what happens to Boney Mahoney, and I wish the author had added more twists in the first half. I felt the story picked up only once they broke, entered the house, and found something shocking, and when Ivy and Mateo follow Cal.

Overall, “You’ll Be the Death of Me” is another thrilling book to add to the author’s works, and I hope she continues to write more.
